This study aimed to determine the effects of different electrical conductivity (EC) levels and di... more This study aimed to determine the effects of different electrical conductivity (EC) levels and different rootstocks on efficiency and yield and some fruit quality parameters. The study was conducted in a closed supply system with soilless culture. EC levels were prepared by adding all macro and micro plant nutrients to the irrigation water. In the trial, 5 different nutrient-levels with 2 (control), 3, 5, 7, and 9 dS m-1 , and 11 commercial rootstocks were used. Non-grafted and plants which were grafted upon themselves were also included in the study. The nutrient induced EC levels from 2 dS m-1 to 9 dS m-1 , total yield decreased by approximately 60%, marketable yield by 63%, total number of fruits by 15%, fruit diameter by 19%, average fruit weight by 45% and pericarp thickness by 28% while skin firmness increased 19%, soluble solids amount 45%, lycopene 53%, titratable acidity 96% and sugars 32%. The effect of rootstocks on yield, fruit size, pericarp thickness and skin firmness, the amount of total soluble solids (TSS), lycopene and reducing sugars were not significant. High EC level had a negative effect on yield and some yield-related fruit properties, whereas it had a positive effect on the amount of TSS, lycopene, titratable acidity and reducing sugar content in addition to improving overall quality. Different EC levels had effects on the yield and quality of tomato, whereas rootstocks had no effect.

ABSTRACT ZET Sera biber yetiştiriciliğinde uygulanan budama (kontrol, 1-dallı, 2-dallı, 3-dallı v... more ABSTRACT ZET Sera biber yetiştiriciliğinde uygulanan budama (kontrol, 1-dallı, 2-dallı, 3-dallı ve 4-dallı) işlemlerinin bitki gelişimi, verim ve meyve üzerinde yapmış olduğu etkiler incelenmiştir. Araştırmada bitkisel materyal olarak, kalın et yapısına sahip dolmalık Zafer F 1 çeşidi kullanılmıştır. Genellikle, budama metotları bitki başına meyve sayısını önemli ölçüde düşürmüştür. Sadece tek dallı budama bitki yüksekliğini artırırken, diğer budamalar bitki yüksekliğini, meyve sayısını, yaprak sayısını, bitki başına düşen boğum sayısını ve bitki gövde çapını düşürmüştür. Budama ile verim negatif yönde etkilenmiştir. Ayrıca meyve ağırlığı, suda çözülebilir kuru madde ve meyve eti suyundaki pH gibi değişkenler üzerine her hangi bir etkisinin olmadığı belirlenmiştir. Bu çalışma ile özellikle sıcaklığın yüksek ve nemin düşük olduğu yaz aylarında, biberde yüksek verim için en az 4 dallı budama sitemi veya dal budaması yerine yaşlı yaprakların ve obur dalların alınması şeklinde yapılan budama işlemlerinin daha etkin olabileceği ortaya çıkmıştır. ABSTRACT The effect of five pruning methods (control, 1-branch pruning, 2-branch pruning, 3-branch pruning, and 4-branch pruning) on plant growing and some fruit characteristics were evaluated in greenhouse. As a plant material, Zafer F 1 bell pepper cultivar having thick flesh was used. Generally, pruning methods decreased the number of fruits per plant. Only, 1-branch pruning increased the plant height while other branch pruning systems decreased plant height, fruit yield, number of fruit, number of leaf, number of nods, and plant stem diameter. Pruning had negative effect on yield. The number of shoots did not affect fruit quality characteristics, such as fruit weight, total soluble solids, and the pH of the flesh. In order to obtain high yield, four shoots per plant is suggested for pepper or instead of stem pruning, taking of old-leaves and no fruit bearing branches was a more efficient system than pruning with few branches in summer time having hot temperature and less humidity conditions.

This study was carried out to determine the effect of unprocessed olive pomace (OP) which is a by-product of olive oil industry and seaweed (SW) on the growth of pepper seedlings. In the study, 4 different pomace ratios (5% OP + 95% peat, 10% OP + 90% peat, 15% OP + 85% peat and 20% OP + 80% peat V:V) and 4 different SW extract doses ( 0% 0.5%, 1% and 2% ) were used. The research was conducted on tomato, pepper, and eggplant seedlings in a greenhouse of General Directorate of Agriculture, Zakho city, Duhok Governorate, Northern Iraq during the spring season of 2021. In the experiment, the 6 growing medias (M1: Soil + sand + sheep manure (1:1:1), M2: Compost, M3: Peat moss, M4: Soil + chicken manure (1:1), M5: Soil + sheep manure (1:1), and M6: Peat moss + compost (1:1)) and 2 doses (0 and 10 g L-1) biofertilizer applications were tried. Nitrate accumulation is regarded harmful for environment and human health. The quality of lettuce is assessed by NO3-concentration, size, and weight. This study determined the impact of five different growth media (cocopeat, peat, bark, perlite and rockwool) and four different NH4+:NO3- ratios (0:100, 20:80, 40:60 and 60:40) on NO3- accumulation in lettuce, yield, and several growth attributes. The experimentation was conducted according to open feeding system of soilless agriculture. The ‘Cosmos’ variety of lettuce was used as experimental material in the study. Growth mediums and NH4+:NO3- ratios significantly altered NO3- accumulation, head, leaf, stem and root traits. The plants were subjected to 0 or 100 mMNaCl 10 days after germination and they were further grown for a week. At 17 d stage, the seedlings were sprayed with deionized water (control) or 0.5 or 1.0 μM EBL. This study was conducted to determine the effects of different tomato rootstocks and high EC leve... more This study was conducted to determine the effects of different tomato rootstocks and high EC levels in order to increase the mineral content of tomatoes, one of the most consumed vegetables in the world. The research was carried out in perlite medium in a non-heated polycarbonate covered greenhouse the in spring production period during 2-years. In the study, 5 different EC levels were applied 2, 3, 5, 7 and 9 dS m-1. In the research, Newton F1 tomato variety was grafted onto 11 different commercial tomato rootstock. Also, for control purposes, non-grafted and self-grafted plants were used. The P, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, B, Mn and Zn contents of fruit samples were determined according to the dry burning method. The P, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Mn and Zn contents of fresh fruit increased with increasing EC levels, according to the two year average results of the study.
