I am [personally] impressed with his consistency about clichés, especially in the first quatrain, in which he strongly uses comparisons to intensify his intention and to support it. Shakespeare basically lists the stereotypes in a conventional, Petrarchan love sonnet and plays with the stereotypical image of woman with his unique descriptions. The first line "My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun" is the perfect opening for an unconventional love sonnet in that time context, because, in Shakespeare's times, all of those metaphors had already become cliché and overly-used, thus, mocking the Petrarchan idea of love in his poem with such a strong opening line is a quite clever move. It was captivating and it led me to reading the rest of the poem in one breath.
