My understanding is that you will need to create one (it is not auto-generated). The config.yml is a configuration file used/required by Jekyll, which powers GitHub pages. You can create a new file called _config.yml in the root directory of your repository. After, define your site settings in the _config.yml file. |

A bit of clarification needed here. Is _config.yml needed in the root or where you selected for hosting it? I set /docs instead of /. so as to keep my code separate from my pages code. |

This is my first attemt at creatiung a Github Page. I'm trying to follow https://docs.github.com/en/pages/quickstart. That guide leaves out stuff like selecting "Add a README file " and clicking "Create repsitory", and the Settings -> Pages is already set up with "Deploy from a branch" and the branch to use. The problem is further down in the "Changing the title and description" section which says "The _config.yml file already contains a line that specifies the theme for your site. ", implying that
_config.yml
should have been created for me. This leads me to thinking I must be missing something important when following the Quickstart for GitHub Pages. Is
_config.yml
supposed to bve autogenerated or do I have to create it myself? If the latter I'm haveing trouble finding documentation for that. Any pointers is most appreciated.Beta Was this translation helpful? Give feedback.
