An all-coupling variational calculation has been performed to explore the formation and stability... more An all-coupling variational calculation has been performed to explore the formation and stability of a bipolaron in a polar semiconductor quantum dot. It has been shown that quantum confinement in general leads to a broadening of the bipolaron stability region. It has been furthermore shown for the first time that stable bipolarons can exist in realistic parabolic quantum dots of polar semiconductors like GaAs, CdS, CdTe and CdSe if they are fabricated in certain range of sizes.

The biofuel sector has the potential to create substantial employment for both skilled and unskilled labour. The sugar industry is the source of livelihood for 45 million farmers and their dependents, comprising 7.5 percent of the rural population. Another 500,000 people are employed as skilled or semiskilled labourers in sugarcane cultivation. With second-generation biofuel industries becoming more established, there is greater potential to generate both direct and indirect jobs. These jobs may not be in the primary agricultural sector because the proposed feedstocks are by-products of agriculture. However, jobs will be generated in the collection and transport of residues, biomass preprocessing, and the generation of bioethanol and related by-products.
