In my essay, I will first argue that physical educators should take seriously a thesis first voiced by modern Olympic Games founder, Pierre de Coubertin, and incorporate aesthetic principles into physical education. In the second half of my essay, I outline the many ways that Coubertin’s conception of art and sport can relate to physical education. Reviving the idea of teaching art alongside sport, physical educators can incorporate Olympic ideals into modern principles of physical education. I conclude that educators of both art and sport ought to use such ideals to help embrace cross-disciplinary educational methods. By taking Coubertin’s message seriously, contemporary physical education programs may better contribute to the education of children by not only educating the physical but also stimulating aesthetic awareness in their pupils.

We face then one of the fundamental problems in providing a basic understanding and respect for all the people involved in the dynamic process of forming a modern society. It is here that physical education, well-equipped with its multicultural range of sports and games could make a significant and positive contribution to society, if teachers well prepared for this challenge. So the main aim of this paper is to propose alternative ways of providing a multicultural context in modern physical education teaching.Although we claim that physical education needs to achieve a high intellectual level of understanding involving societal and cultural aspects in general, we also believe that modern sport should better incorporate art and literature to its environment. In this paper, the reader will find some examples of traditional plays or games and art activities from different parts of the world, which could be adapted as integrative themes in physical education classes.
