1M views · 105K reactions | I demo’d my closet to build a more functional DREAM version, let me catch you up to where I’m at. ⬇️ To back up a bit, I built my sons closet last year to test out the Ikea PAX system and ended up LOVING the results. I also loved the idea of NOT having to build a ton of drawers from scratch. So I started by ripping everything out and building a base out of 2x4s. This step isn’t necessary and I actually skipped it in the boys closet because I just didn’t have the height for it. But the ceilings in here are 14’ and it will give it a more custom look. For the PAX units I used 5 in total plus one corner unit, securing them to each other as well as the base and the studs in the side walls. Then I decided where I wanted my drawers and shelves and started installing those too. Ikea is still out of a few components I need but I’m able to continue on without them for now! Once I decided on the layout, I removed the shelves and filled the trillion holes I didn’t need with wood filler because I learned from the last closet it’s easier to do this before the trim is added. Then I attached a second ‘base’ on top of the units. I’ll be building the upper cabinets from scratch and installing those as soon as I get a few lights out of the way.
