Throughout my Army career, during which I earned a master's degree in Adult Education, and subsequent career as a contractor I learned skills in identifying information needed for a purpose, conducting research to discover the needed information, and finding pertinent connections among sometimes seemingly unrelated pieces of information. I developed strong analytical and documentation skills, an ability to identify information needs and research them from multiple sources, ability to explain the meaning of research results, and experience in collaborating with and presenting information to groups with large and diverse participants.
The skills just mentioned apply also to Bible learning and teaching. The Bible study leader identifies information needed for a spiritual purpose, searches the Scriptures to discover the needed information, compares and analyzes Scripture with Scripture to identify basic cross-references, and discovers pertinent connections among seemingly unrelated bits of history and prophecy. The Bible study leader uses curriculum development skills to package and deliver explanations of the meaning of Scripture to people with diverse confessional backgrounds and levels of knowledge of the Bible.

Mark 4:26-29 illustrates that we evangelists can only spread the gospel and see the results of its growth, and that only God can provide the growth of his Church.
