My professional life currently revolves around federal funding programs, while my personal concerns remain in balancing necessary economic development with environment and heritage conservation.
My research interests include environmental psychology, sense-of-place theory, public space, land use, intangible cultural heritage, and related policy. I study social and cultural processes that create both material and symbolic environments, particularly the human relationship with the natural environment. I also have a special interest in island studies.
I have a breadth of experience in government administration, and have worked in service to the U.S. National Park Service Office of Cultural Resources, Partnerships, and Science, the Bureau of Reclamation, and various programs within the Department of Commerce.
