Pei and Eero Saarinen before developing his Platner Collection (1966), which reflects his belief that there’s room in modernism “for the kind of decorative, gentle, graceful design that appeared in a period style like Louis XV.” This airy steel wire collection, for which he devised the structure and production method, requires as many as 1,000 welds per piece to create.
