Tiago Hora
Producer and musicologist, he is a researcher at the Institute of Ethnomusicology - Centre for Studies in Music and Dance (group of "Historical and Cultural Studies in Music") at NOVA-FCSH, where he has dedicated himself to historical research into Portuguese music and record production.
He holds a PhD in Musicology (2020) by the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the New University of Lisbon (UNL), under the guidance of Rui Vieira Nery. He is Master graduated in Historical Musicology (2010) by UNL where he studied under the guidance of David Cranmer.
Between 2021 and 2023 he was a contract researcher on the project "PROFMUS - Being a musician in Portugal: the socio-professional condition of musicians in Lisbon (1750-1985)" (INET-md / NOVA-FCSH), funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (PTDC/ART-PER/32624/2017), and between 2012 and 2014 he collaborated with CITAR-UCP for the projects "Orpheon Portuense: Tradição e Inovação", and "Espólio Manuel Ivo Cruz" and
His book publications includes "Espólio Manuel Ivo Cruz: música manuscrita portuguesa e brasileira" (UCE-Porto, 2013), "Joaquim Simões da Hora: intérprete, pedagogo e divulgador" (Colibri, 2015) and "Fernando Lopes-Graça e Eugénio de Andrade: o diálogo entre a música e a poesia" (Chiado Books, 2018). He is also author of several articles and chapters in scientific and artistic publications and regularly participates in national and international conferences on music and musicology, and regularly writes for various publications in music periodicals, concert program notes and is author of several texts and arguments for radio (RTP-Antena 2) and musical shows.
As part of his specialisation as a musicologist, he has been invited as a consultant for various artistic and scientific projects and is Editor of Reviews for the Portuguese Journal of Musicology (SPIM/CESEM(INET-MD).
Tiago Hora teaches Musical Sciences on the Music and Drama course at the School of Education of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto (Portugal).
In 2011 he founded ARTWAY, where he was responsible until 2023 for the artistic direction and production of various concerts and shows, with some of the most prominent Portuguese musicians of today, in the main concert halls and music festivals in Portugal, with also a special focus on the field of record production.
His work in the world of discography has been reflected both as a musicologist and record producer, having produced and directed recordings for labels such as NEOS Records, Artway Records, Arkhé Music, Portugaler, Grand Piano, Naxos, MPMP, Inventa and Toccata Classics.
Between 2013 and 2017, Tiago represented Portugal as an associate member of the Association Européenne des Agents Artistiques, based at the European Union House of Culture (Brussels).
He regularly participates in national and international conferences about musicology, and participate regularly as commentator in concerts and give workshops and courses about Music History, which stands out the annual editions of “Music and its history” at Porto City Library.
Tiago Hora regularly writes for various publications in music periodicals, concert programs notes and is author of several texts and arguments for musical shows.
In 2015 he was invited by the Porto Municipality as curator of the exhibition “Fernando Lopes-Graça e Eugénio de Andrade: o diálogo entre a música e a poesia” in the Porto City Library and at Portuguese Music Museum.

Neste domínio estendeu também as suas qualidades de grande intérprete em diversos países europeus e até nos Estados Unidos da América. Inserido na corrente da “nova” Música Antiga que surgiu na segunda metade do século XX, faz parte de uma geração de intérpretes que assentam as suas interpretações em técnicas e instrumentos históricos, tais como Jordi Savall, Ton Koopman ou José Luís Uriol. As suas interpretações encontram-se registadas em quatro álbuns que demonstram as suas grandes capacidades como intérprete.
A actividade profissional de Joaquim Simões da Hora estendeu-se também ao domínio da pedagogia, onde constituiu uma reformulação da classe de órgão do Conservatório Nacional, no qual foi professor entre 1977 e 1995.
Para além das actividades de intérprete e pedagogo, desenvolveu ao longo de toda a sua carreira um profundo trabalho na divulgação do património musical nacional, sobretudo organístico, bem como na produção e supervisão musical de grande parte das edições de música erudita feitas em Portugal nas três últimas décadas do século XX.
Joaquim Simões da Hora deixou o mundo dos mortais em Abril de 1996. No entanto, permanece como um dos grandes organistas da nossa história recente. O seu legado repercute-se no impulso que deu ao despoletar de novos intérpretes de Música Antiga para órgão, nos seus registos fonográficos e numa nova dinamização de vida musical organística em Portugal desde meados da década de 90, através da criação sistemática de festivais de música para órgão.
