Canvey Island is on the south coast of Essex.

[edit]Canvey Island is low-lying next to the River Thames, and has flooded periodicially, most devastatingly in 1953. It has a significant population of former Londoners including an Orthodox Jewish community.

[edit]The nearest station is 1 Benfleet station which is on the line between London Fenchurch St and Southend-on-Sea. There are buses from Benfleet station to Canvey Island.

[edit]- 1 Castle Point Transport Museum, 105 Point Rd, SS8 7TD. April - Oct 1 and 3rd Sunday every month + all Sundays in August 10AM-6PM. Volunteer-run museum in an old bus depot built in 1934 housing 30 vintage buses and various lorries.
- 2 Dutch Cottage Museum, Canvey Road. Spring Bank Holiday - end Sept: Su 2:30PM-5PM, and some W. Built in 1618 by Dutch engineer who settled here to drain the land.
- 3 The Bay Museum, The Old Desaussing Station, Western Esplanade, SS8 0AY. Sundays and bank holidays 10AM-4PM.
