Structure
[edit]Please use Banners, Templates (with rankings), Categories and User boxes.
For Wikiproject Saskatchewan pages
[edit]For general guidance on article structure
- always start articles with a standardized template; see Infobox template
- create the relevant sections in the article
- add a photo
- below any See also and External links sections, insert (don't subst!) the appropriate navigation bar
- below the navigation bar, if necessary, insert (don't subst!) one of the appropriate stub template:
- lastly, at the bottom of the article should be the appropriate categories (more on this below)
- on the very top of the article's talk page, use the template {{WikiProject Canada|class= |importance= | sk=yes }} For more information and categories: Wikiproject Canada Template
- Create an article introduction which summarizes the content of the whole article, and every section.
- For articles needing photos to improve the quality use the {{reqphotoin|Saskatchewan}} banner.
Templates
[edit]- Add this template {{Saskatchewan quick links}} to your user page to give editors more information about Saskatchewan on Wikipedia.
Infoboxes
[edit]Try to add a Saskatchewan or Canadian Template to each article. Where one of the above is not available use a generic topic template.
- All settlements in Saskatchewan should use {{Infobox Settlement}}. This infobox provides a consistent look between the various types settlements in Saskatchewan like Saskatoon and North Battleford and to settlements in the other parts of Canada like Toronto, Montreal, St. John's, and Edmonton. The default "settlement_type" is city, but it can be changed to reflect any type of settlement, like counties, towns, villages, etc. {{Infobox Settlement}} also has a super imposable dot map feature that allows a map to be used with any settlement in Saskatchewan.
- {{Template:Infobox road}} for example use the infobox road template for your new Saskatchewan Road article creations.

Tips
[edit]To get an article to featured article status, make sure to follow these steps to ensure all articles we submit to Featured article candidates meet the FA criteria. All of these apply to almost any good article, so keep them in mind when editing even outside of Saskatchewan articles. The suggestions are:
I. | Write a good lead. Be sure to write a lead that concisely summarizes the entire article into one or two paragraphs which make sense to someone who may know nothing about the subject. |
II. | Use good spelling and grammar. This is a very important aspect of an article. Many browsers support spell checking. |
III. | Use footnotes. Take advantage of the footnote ability Wikipedia has, instead of including html links inside the context include them as footnotes. See Wikipedia:Footnotes on how to use them. |
IV. | Use images if possible. Images enhance articles greatly, but only use them when they are necessary, and ensure that their copyright status has been specified and we are allowed to use it on Wikipedia. See Wikipedia:Images for more information. |
V. | Use references. This is an encyclopedia, so remember to include a ==References== section listing websites, newspapers, articles, books and other sources you used to write the article. An article will not get accepted as a featured article candidate if it is missing references. See Wikipedia:Verifiability, Wikipedia:Cite_sources and Wikipedia:References. |
VI. | Stay on topic. Many articles are criticized for length; sticking to the subject matter helps eliminate this. |
VI. | Keep it simple. Remember that the average reader should be able to comprehend the erudition. Although you should use a broad vocabulary of regular, non-technical terms, do not provide such a quantity of locutions as to impel those who aspire to derive serviceable information from the article to consult a dictionary. |
VII. | Use common sense. You should know what perfect articles look like. They cover everything they should without going on forever. Common sense could have told you almost all of the items mentioned above. Ultimately, assume good faith, be bold, and go out there and write some good Saskatchewan articles. |
To do
[edit]1. Expand articles listed in:
1a. *Category:Saskatchewan stubs
1b. *Category:Saskatchewan geography stubs
2. Organize list structure and add to list of needed articles:
2a.*WikiProject Saskatchewan/Article requests
3. Check for and do needed articles at:
3a.*WikiProject Saskatchewan/Article requests
3b. Establish collaborations and improvements for Saskatchewan related articles
4. Photo Requests.
For Saskatchewan-related articles needing a photograph, use {{Image requested|in=Saskatchewan}}
in the talk page, which adds the article needing a photo to Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Saskatchewan. You can help Wikipedia by uploading freely licensed photographs for these articles to Wikimedia Commons.
The Free Image Search Tool may be able to locate suitable images on other web sites.
The Image Existence Checker shows articles in this list that have images.
.
5. Map Requests. Use {{reqmapin|Saskatchewan}}
on talk page of articles needing maps which will list maps needed at: Category:Wikipedia requested maps in Saskatchewan. Use the coordinates map template and one of the options for either degree, minutes and seconds or decimal latitude and longitude.
- There has been a Location map for Saskatchewan created. Just enter the placename and longitude and latitude and the marker will identify the location on the Saskatchewan map. See Simpson and Location map options and instructions for an example of its use.
6. Update census demographic information to the 2006 Census version on community pages and remove {{Template:Update}}. This is a template for this; just modify the appropriate variables for the community profile in question.
{{Canada_CP_2006|pop=206,900|popDelta=+1.6%|landArea=176.6|popDensity=1,326.8|medianAge=34.3|medianAgeM=33.1|medianAgeF=35.5|privateDwell=84,281|medianHHIncome=41,991}}
7. Review existing assessment of articles and reassess following Assessment guidelines. Clarify assessment criteria at Assessment guidelines
8. Place banners on talk pages and rate Saskatchewan articles via the banner placed upon the article's talk page template in this way: {{WikiProject Canada|class= |importance= | sk=yes }} For more information see the Saskatchewan wikiproject Assessment page.
9. Articles which contain the word Saskatchewan or are Saskatchewan related which have error template tags on them. To Do listing Please clean up articles, remove tag, and remove from both lists on page.
10. Here are some of the many SK categories (drill to sub and parent categories as well) where you can look for untagged articles and articles to expand:
