Seems to be an old name for the sharks, but isn't mentioned anywhere in the page and the best source I can find for this is a student newspaper. Rusalkii (talk) 21:15, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

London, Ontario trivia to delete

I am nominating this redirect for deletion because it violates multiple criteria outlined in WP:RFD#DELETE. Specifically, it violates criterion 1 ("The redirect page makes it unreasonably difficult for users to locate similarly named articles"); criterion 5 ("The redirect makes no sense"); and criterion 8 ("If the redirect is a novel or very obscure synonym for an article name that is not mentioned in the target").

The redirect page now at London, Ontario trivia was moved to London, Ontario trivia to delete back in 2006. The move was made with the clear intention of having the page history of London, Ontario trivia deleted as an implausible redirect without going through the usual processes (both pages redirected to London, Ontario, at the time). I have reverted this move to preserve the previous page history; that redirect can be discussed separately. Regardless of the merits of the title London, Ontario trivia, there is no reason for this redirect to exist. Epicgenius (talk) 17:26, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This really doesn't meet the criteria for a foreign language redirect under WP:FORRED. "List of Sudanese poets" isn't an English translation of a Sudanese or an Arabic-language concept, where we're also providing a redirect at the original term. (This Arabic isn't an exact translation anyway, it means "translations of Sudanese poems".) Largoplazo (talk) 11:00, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

What kind of title is this? Besides, a 2007 film can't be their "next" when they've made so many films ever since. Kailash29792 (talk) 08:23, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, never mind… It was actually created in 2006, and was an article for five months before being renamed and moved to its current title at Naqaab (2007 film), but I'm not entirely sure if it should be kept for some type of attribution. CycloneYoris talk! 09:03, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

As the result of an AfD discussion in 2005, the "Pet names" article's content was merged into We Didn't Start the Fire, but it seems to have been long, long removed. It's now contextless and a bit odd. I considered a redirect to Tom Green according to the AfD, the performer of said parody song, but it's not mentioned at his article either. Bundling "The Wii Didn't Start the Fire" as a page that has a similar history except just a request to be an article instead of becoming a redirect from an AfD, but both long unmentioned parodies targetting this song. Weak retarget Pet Names for Genitalia to wikt:Thesaurus:penis, as both the song and the wiktionary page are about alternative ways to refer to penises. Otherwise I guess these pages should be deleted. Duckmather (talk) 22:09, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

DVD coaster

The result of the discussion was no consensus. Althought the nomination started as a deletion nomination, the nom suggested an alternate target, which did not find much support. The delete votes did not have an opinion on the suggested target either. However, there was no support for the current target, hence retargeting to Optical disc authoring#Process. Jay 💬 06:10, 27 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
All prior XfDs for this page:

Not an ambiguous term disambiguated at the target; apparently a reference to the use of a DVD casepoorly burned (written) DVD as a drink coaster, but not mentioned anywhere on enwiki. Suggest deletion; there is a very old one-line unsourced stub in the page history that would almost certainly not be kept at Afd. Mdewman6 (talk) 18:42, 28 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This context is mentioned at Optical disc authoring#Process, so that is a possible redirect target. Mdewman6 (talk) 20:12, 28 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Did you consider Optical disc authoring#Process? We don't have CD coaster, but that section at least describes the use of "coasters" in this context: recordable discs (presumably incl. DVDs) gone bad being relegated to use as coasters. Mdewman6 (talk) 01:56, 3 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete GNews Archives, GBooks and Google search did not provide good cites for "DVD coasters". There are forums talking about it but I think they're not enough to warrant inclusion/ mention in the target article.--Lenticel (talk) 12:58, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not mentioned in target. Not sure why this shouldn't go directly to Kamen Rider × Super Sentai: Super Hero Taisen rather than the overview article, or be deleted because of the "PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE" making it an implausible search term. MB 02:32, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep - the use of the phrase is described in the article, and there don't appear to be any better targets. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 14:54, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Also, refine this redirect to Nell Gwyn#Legacy (and move the hatnote to that section too), as the phrase Protestant whore is only mentioned in that section. Otherwise, sending readers to the lead section would just confuse them. Duckmather (talk) 19:53, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This is a leftover {{R from move}} (Chautauqua CARTS was moved to Chautauqua Area Rural Transit System where the move comment was "Full name, not repeating the C"). From WP:BEFORE it does not seem like CARTS is ever called "Chautauqua CARTS". TartarTorte 16:28, 28 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Weak keep seems unambiguous and a plausible mistake (similarly, I can imagine calling the BART the "Bay Area BART" even if that is, in principle, in the name already). It doesn't seem to be used often but it seems at minimum unobjectionable to keep from the move. Rusalkii (talk) 04:26, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. Completely unambiguous, and was at this title for 12 years, so without doubt WP:RFD#K4 applies. Further, this is a perfectly plausible search term (not necessarily even a mistake) as someone may be searching for this not knowing what CARTS stands for but knowing it is the transport system in Chautauqua, or disambiguating it (and indeed CARTS does refer to more than one such system). IBM 370

[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was keep. signed, Rosguill talk 06:04, 28 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The redirect should be changed to a DAB page, with a primary of IBM 370 printer. The common abbreviation for System/370 is S/370, not IBM 370, and readers are not highly likely to be searching on IBM 370 unless they are looking for the printer. Users looking for the printer will be surprised by a page for unrelated, much later, products. Shmuel (Seymour J.) Metz Username:Chatul (talk) 13:34, 28 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Change This is a reasonable and non-controversial suggestion. Expanding a redirect is within the range of normal editing and does not need discussion here. I have made the changes. This discussion should be speedy closed.--agr (talk) 14:03, 28 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
ONEOTHER is not so applicable here. IBM 370 is the official model name of the printer. It's just shorthand for the IBM System/370. Also ONEOTHER would instead require a hatnote on the IBM System/370 article, which I think is a worse outcome than a dab for IBM 370. For a reader searching for IBM 370, encountering a dab page is a minor inconvenience; for the far greater number of readers landing directly on the System/370 page, e.g. from a link, a hatnote reminding them of an obscure printer is unnecessary clutter.--agr (talk) 16:32, 1 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
ONEOTHER applies when there is a primary topic and one other meaning. The current situation is that there is no primary topic, so ONEOTHER is not relevant. If that changes, ONEOTHER may start to apply. Certes (talk) 14:03, 7 December 2022 (UTC) See belated correction below Certes (talk) 10:05, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. System/370 seems to be primary by usage, and by long-term significance given that a decade is a long time in computing. It has far more search results, page views and incoming links than the printer. Second choice: dab. Retargetting to the printer, even with a hatnote, would send most readers to the wrong article. Apologies for my misleading comment above, where I misread the perfectly proper preparation of a dab below #REDIRECT as a premature change from redirect to dab. Certes (talk) 10:05, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per the others on the primary topic. My external search results matched that of the keep voters, and not the nom's. Also, the hatnote to the printer has been there since 2012. Jay 💬 18:45, 26 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
