- File:Taha Hussain.PNG (delete | talk | history | logs).
- Low-resolution photograph of a murder victim (Taha Hussain, article has been deleted through PROD for lack of notability) with no indication of how the uploader happened to have a photo of him during his lifetime. The low-resolution suggests that this is taken from a website rather than an original photograph to which the uploader has the rights. BencherliteTalk 08:32, 11 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Uploader removed the deletion tag (now reinstated) and added this message to the talk page: "This file is not copyright. It's not copied from anywhere on the internet. It's a personal file on my computer, taken from a mobile and there were other people in the image which had to be cropped out." NB the uploader fails to say expressly that he himself took the original photograph on his mobile, as opposed to modifying a photo which someone else had taken, so the file's status is still unclear. Even if he did take the original photo, that doesn't mean that Wikipedia needs to host the image if the only article for which it could be used fails to pass notability requirements. - File:Barkatullah.JPG (delete | talk | history | logs).
- This file was originally tagged {{GFDL-self}} by this uploader, who has had issues with copyrights in the past; I seriously doubt it's self-created.
Anyway, to be {{PD-India}}, this artistic work would need to have its author dead 60+ years, but the source website is too lazy to source it. And there is no proof at said website that it was published before 1923. Magog the Ogre (talk) 10:27, 11 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

- File:Mkt153ags.jpg (delete | talk | history | logs).
- This image is taken from the MKT section of Fallen Flags. The copyright notice at the top of the page says the following: "All photos are copyright by George Elwood, from my collection with credit to the photographer or by the submitter. I don't mind you taking MY photos but please give me credit. If not I will remove or place a copyright credit on the photos. Thanks."
Now, I think this notice by itself is somewhat vague. Nothing is said about derivative works or commercial use. Further, this image was, according to the site (see [1] and scroll a ways) taken by Kermit Geary but is from the "Gary Steubben." I find this all somewhat confusing, and none of it leaves me believing that George Elwood even has the authority to freely license this photo, if that is in fact what he's doing.
These questions were raised back in January 2008 but went unanswered. I doubt whether this is a free image and there are definitely free alternatives. Mackensen (talk) 13:43, 11 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Thankfully, you found a free alternative, although a similar side shot like this one would've been better. A lot of these images are being deleted without free alternatives. ----DanTD (talk) 23:34, 11 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

- Outside 3D artwork, post 1978. Creator has copyright Ronhjones (Talk) 22:59, 11 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Does that that copyright issue not apply to sculpture only? The photo itself has proper CC tags on it.--RadioFan (talk) 23:17, 11 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- USA does not have Freedom of Panorama that includes sculptures (just buildings) - thus the copyright belongs to the sculptor, talking a photo of an artwork does not transfer the copyright (just the same as a painting). US copyright laws started changing in 1978 - anything pre-1978 is regarded as OK, but this was erected later. Ronhjones (Talk) 23:29, 11 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
