Deletion

[edit]

I've undeleted Rousseau Metal and moved it to User:Isabellelf/Rousseau Metal for you to work on. Please add citations to third-party sources (books, newspapers, magazines, etc.) that discuss the company in detail. Let me know when you're done with it. Thanks, Mark Arsten (talk) 16:12, 28 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Isabellelf, your edits to Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion here removed all the current content from the page, so I reverted it back to the version before your edits. You can add your question in a new section at the bottom of the page, but since Mark Arsten said "Let me know when you're done" it might be better for you to post to his talk page instead. Thanks, --bonadea contributions talk 15:12, 7 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry you are being asked to go around in circles.... this can be a very confusing place, and I apologise for adding to the confusion! I didn't realise that you had been in contact with Mark Arsten after he posted to your page here. I can't restore pages because I'm not an administrator, but I will restore your query on the Requests for undeletion page, and hopefully some helpful admin will take it from there. --bonadea contributions talk 15:57, 7 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your request for undeletion

[edit]

It would help your request if you used Template:Citation for each the references in User:Isabellelf/Rousseau Metal and use the actual name of the source rather than "website". -- Jreferee (talk) 06:25, 13 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Rousseau Metal - what next

[edit]

I am sorry you have been waiting to be told what to do - the normal assumption is that when someone's article is taken to a deletion review, they will be watching it, and the comment at Wikipedia:Deletion_review/Log/2014_January_7#Rousseau_Metal by the closing adminstrator, user Spartaz (talk), is addressed to you, inviting you to "consider the advice in the discussion and let me know on my talk page whether they want to work on this further or have it restored to mainspace." I would summarise the actual discussion (visible by clicking "Show" at the right hand side) as: the draft article is good enough not to be speedy-deleted if put back into the main encyclopedia, but would probably be re-nominated at WP:Articles for deletion and (in the opinion of most of them) would be unlikely to pass.

The comment from DGG (a veteran user with a great deal of experience in these discussions) is interesting, that the article might be better if pruned of some of the detail. There is a difference, hard to define but important, between (a) an article which is the company telling the world about itself, telling the story it wants the world to hear, and (b) an article about the company written from outside. Wikipedia is quite resistant to (a); that is one reason for the conflict-of-interest rules, because insiders find it hard not to write (a). In this case, sentences like "Right from the start, Rousseau Metal Inc. was a company that responded to the specific needs of its clients" and "Rousseau strives to continuously make improvements" sound very much like (a), and so do the detailed descriptions of fabrication methods (is there anything special about them, or do most fabricators use the same methods?) and the six-step development process.

So, it is now up to you to decide what you want to do. If you ask Spartaz to restore the article, he will do that, but you may want to work on it on the lines discussed before asking him. If you do, make a strong effort to think of yourself not as writing for Rousseau, but as writing for Wikipedia about Rousseau, from outside.

I did not know before about fr:Rousseau Métal (entreprise), which I see is more or less the same. However, the existence of a French version would not be accepted as much of an argument for keeping the English one - each Wikipedia has its own standards. If the article is put back, let me know and I will fix the "inter-wiki links" so that the two versions link to each other.
