Block and Unexplained Revert
[edit]Hello Materialscientist, this is regarding your revert and block of my IP. I'm sorry that you considered my edits to be vandalism. A user other than me converted the redirect to a short article without sources. I reworked the article with a couple of sources in good faith in the intention of creating a short stub; specifically adding Template:Sources exist that it might be saved, and it did feel like Wikipedia:Please do not bite the newcomers on the receiving end. Help
[edit]Hi User:Materialscientist I need help with explaining this user User:Bijzindia as he keeps rv every edit in Bigg Boss (Malayalam season 5). I made some edits as there was issues with the page.
Firstly as Bigg Boss comes under Big Brother franchise the format and structure of tables should be consistent right. The user insists on adding entering days of wild cards in the nominations of that particular housemate. But we don’t use that in any version of Bigg Boss and Big Brother. I even discussed this in a polite way on his talk page with proof of how tables wild cards should be CHECK HERE User talk:Bijzindia#Regarding bigg boss 5. Second in many big brother tables we don’t add Hosptilised if thr contestant as walked its normally Walked as you can see in Celebrity Big Brother (British series 22)#Housemates and Big Brother (British series 18)#Nominations table
I don’t know how more I can tolerate his appalling behaviour 2A02:6B68:10:4E00:E0BB:4277:2C88:5CA4 (talk) 16:53, 12 February 2024 (UTC)

- Hello, Materialscientist,
- Faridahmadi.itp came to ask me to reduce create protection on this page title but since you set the last level of protection, I directed them here to discuss it with you or suggested that they could try making a request at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection. But mostly, I suggested that they work on a draft version and submit it to AFC for review and, hopefuly, approval. To be honest, I don't recall the circumstances about this article on Bahari Ibaadat or what block-evading sockpuppets were trying to create the article. Liz Read! Talk! 02:51, 17 February 2024 (UTC)

Replaceable non-free use File:ET007-10.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:ET007-10.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file's talk page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Vanjagenije (talk) 00:29, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
Italy 2.45.126.120
[edit]Unfortunately we have a problem. They have been at this for over 6 months doing number vandalism from many different IPs, some IP4 others IP6, all from Italy, usually changing the heights of things, buildings, mountains etc.. thousands of edits. Blocking does nothing, in fact might be a bad idea as at least we can track them. After a block they shift to a different unknown IP. I've been tracking and reverting 2.44.145.152 for a while. Sadly, I let about a dozen edits sit for a few weeks and nobody reverted them, they were overlooked by the community.
The range of IPs is in the millions, see here (click "Show more.." at bottom). The scale makes tracking impossible, much less blocking. I'm really at a loss what to do because they are causing a lot of hidden damage. -- GreenC 14:54, 17 March 2024 (UTC)

Hotwiki's aggressive behavior
[edit]Hi. I would like to consult something about this editor's behavior towards others. This has been going on for several years and a lot of ANI discussions were raised against this user but he only gets "a slap on the wrist" for his aggressive behavior.
Just recently, I got a run-in again with Hotwiki at the Saksi article, restoring texts that he removed because in his opinion, it was "unreferenced". After restoring them, he removed it again and justifying that the information where Mike Enriquez and Vicky Morales were transferred was "trivial", while adding italics on program titles. I restored my edits since there was an agreement before in the last ANI I raised against him that any changes in this article should be discussed in the talk page. Well, you can read the rest of our heated argument at the Saksi talk page and at one point tried to provoke me to revert his edits and be blocked again.
I'm speaking on behalf of other Filipino Wikipedians who have good intentions in editing the articles Hotwiki is trying to gatekeep for several years. If you notice, most of the articles that he gatekeeps have very little or missing information about them. He cuts and removes most of other editor's contributions and dismiss them as "trivial". Checking the Saksi, 24 Oras or Unang Hirit articles alone shows that if you read those articles, you will sense that some information is missing. Not to mention the his behavior in the past when he replaced most of the GMA Network's image title cards and replacing it with the same image that he uploaded.
I have confronted this user several times, and it seems he's just being hard-headed and won't agree on any consensus. What's "right" in his opinion must be followed and the hell other editors' contributions.
What should I do with this? If another ANI will be raised against him, other administrators that have no background or knowledge on his past behavior will just dismiss these accusations and sometimes, the one that is reporting is being gaslit. -WayKurat (talk) 07:16, 31 March 2024 (UTC)

About article "The Dancing Clown"
[edit]This article's only two sources are unverifiable print sources that may or may not contain the information they are said to contain. Creator and primary editor of this article attempted to create numerous hoax articles in the past and add false information to articles. I could find absolutely nothing about this movie when I did an Internet search. Based on all this, I am led to believe that this article is a hoax and that this film is nonexistent. If this is indeed the case, I recommend having the user blocked to prevent further disruption. I attempted to alert a user to this months ago, but nothing happened after all that time. I need help with my article
[edit]Hi fellow scientist! @Materialscientist
I found your site and as a newbie to Wikipedia editing it's super impressive what you've already done here!
For my first article, I thought it would be easiest to take an existing article in my native language (German), translate it, and add additional information. I wrote about Nanoscribe which is part of the BICO group. As a materials scientist you might have heard of them, they make 3D laser microprinters. I made some mistakes at the beginning and didn't realize some problems with citations. But I think I have that pretty well fixed now. I submitted it for review and I've been waiting for several weeks for someone to review it. Could you help me with this? As a newbie, if there are still problems with the article, I would be happy to get your tips :)

Gas carbon
[edit]Hey Materialscientist,
I wanted to ask your opinion of this, because it's more in your field of expertise. I ran across the article gas carbon some months ago. I was interested because I'd never heard of carbon in a gaseous form before. Upon reading it, however, I'm almost certain what it's describing is coke (fuel), using a very uncommon name. Only one of the three sources actually works, and it's questionable at best. I did some checking through google and google books going back to the 1800s, and found no uses of the name "gas carbon" except for a few websites that appear to have gotten their info from Wikipedia. I started a discussion on the talk page, but got no replies.
My first thought is that it should be merged with the coke article, but that article already covers everything in the gas-carbon article in far more detail. Since the term "gas carbon" doesn't seem to have ever been used historically, I'm thinking now that maybe it would be better to simply delete the article, since the title implies a gaseous form of carbon. This confusion seems to be reflected in these redirect discussions: here and here. But I'm not sure what would be the best solution, so I wanted to ask for your expert opinion on the matter.
If you have some time, could you please take a quick peek? Thanks. Zaereth (talk) 21:11, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
110.145.223.234 block
[edit]Hi Materialscientist, I tried to edit a page on Hunted Australia (I think) on the ip 110.145.223.234 last year August, apparently I now have a two year block from editing Wikipedia (ends in August 2025). I didn't vandalise the page and I don't know why you blocked me. Please clarify Thanks Trainandbus123 (talk) 01:01, 28 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Trainandbus123 I'm not Materialscientist (nor an admin), but I can tell you what's probably happened. IP addresses are sometimes used simultaneously by multiple users. If that IP address gets a block, it will affect not just the editor that needed to be blocked, but also all the other users on that network. I typed the User:110.145.223.234 address into my Wikipedia search bar, and it looks like the block is set to affect logged-out (i.e. anonymous) users only, so I wouldn't worry about it, especially since you have an account. Just log into that and you can continue editing as normal! :) In fact, you should stay logged in and not make some edits logged-out unless you have a good reason to, according to Wikipedia's multiple accounts policy.
- By the way, in the case that the block on your IP address prevents you from being able to edit from your account also, you can get around this by requesting IP block exemption! :) — AP 499D25 (talk) 08:41, 2 June 2024 (UTC)

Question about reliable sources
[edit]1. Mike runs a news site that Wikipedia considers a reliable source. If Mike publishes an article to his site, and then cites said article in Wikipedia, does that violate WP:OR?
2. John is a person who is notable enough to have a Wikipedia article. Can John edit his own article to add information about himself with no sources to back it up? And would something written by John himself be a valid source for that article? 24.115.255.37 (talk) 21:28, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
A user you've blocked
[edit]Hello Materialscientist. A user that you’ve blocked twice has been disrupting and POV pushing in several Armenia-Azerbaijan articles.
I’ve noticed user's edit in Second NK War [6], where they’ve added WP:REDFLAG claim in infobox that’s not supported by independent reliable sources and isn’t even mentioned in the article. I then noticed their edits in two other articles; here they change the numbers from reliable sources to ridiculous “45-135-145” soldiers killed by one from the opposing army, all the sources are partisan unknown websites, the claim is obviously WP:REDFLAG, and the reliable sources that are in the article (Radio Free Europe, Eurasianet) don’t support anything close to what Ao192 is claiming. Then Ao192 goes to that one soldier’s wiki article that allegedly killed “45-135-142” from the opposing army, and here he does the same WP:REDFLAG changes and removes the two reliable sources from the article [7], [8]. Btw the WP:RS Eurasianet article that Ao192 removed says “Four Armenian soldiers also died in the firefight. The Azerbaijani government has attributed the deaths of four Armenian soldiers to Ibrahimov…", but Ao192 attributes the 4 killed to “Armenian government”, and his ridiculous WP:REDFLAG numbers he attributes to “numerous sources” [9]. Awful POV pushing on so many levels.
I warned user of contentious topics, reverted the WP:REDFLAG poorly sourced claims, and restored the WP:RS. But that didn't stop Ao192 [10]. I’ve looked at the articles' history as well and, not surprisingly, it’s not the first time of red flag POV push from Ao192 [11], [12]. They even tried to remove the WP:RS similarly to how they did now and insert the WP:REDFLAG, [13].
Given the continued heavy POV pushing even after being blocked, I believe Ao192 is in the WP:NOTHERE territory. As the blocking admin, could you take a look? Thank you. Vanezi (talk) 07:55, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
- Since this comment, the user reverted and restored red flag claims again [14]. Still no independent WP:RS confirming the inflated death toll claims supposedly at the hands of a single soldier. Ao192 says in their summary “"4 armenians kia" its just the claims of armenia” when WP:RS affirms it as I quoted above. And Ao192 also states “putin said in a speech mubariz killed 135” as if that overturns the WP:RS in the article, but even then if you look at the source for this supposed Putin claim, it’s an unknown poor web-page screenshot in Azeri which just shows yet again the quality of “sources” Ao192 repeatedly edit-wars and restores in an obvious violation of WP:REDFLAG and completely ignoring the contentious material/article they're editing.
- Ao192 also personally attacked me and my nationality which they assumed; “this ibrahimov guy clearly pisses you off considering you are from Armenia” [15]. Vanezi (talk) 09:41, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
- Is there is a reason my concerns are being left unanswered? I’m just asking to review them because the situation is becoming increasingly troubling, and given your familiarity with this user (as you've blocked them twice), I believed it would be most appropriate for you to review their recent activity. Unfortunately after my last comment above and them personally attacking me and reinstating their subpar partisan WP:REDFLAG in 2010 Mardakert clashes that’s not supported by any of the article’s cited WP:RS, they’ve done the same in here too, again, and also entirely removed the two WP:RS from the article (Eurasianet, RFE/RL) like they did previously.
- I don’t want to just revert the user further because they ignore all the specific rules I pointed out, the warnings, and just edit-war restoring their red flag partisan claims while removing WP:RS figures from the article or the WP:RS as a whole entirely. I’d much rather an admin review this case, especially an admin familiar with the user like yourself. I kindly ask that you at least acknowledge my comments. With respect, Vanezi (talk) 11:17, 26 June 2024 (UTC)

- @UtherSRG appreciate your comment, but that's not the case anymore. And I'm still unsure why my concerns have been left unanswered. As I said, I won't be reverting the user because that proved to be futile, but I would be grateful for an admin to take a look at the problematic behavior/edits I have outlined above. Vanezi (talk) 18:16, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
- Maybe instead of posting on only one admin's talk page, you would get more attention going to WP:AN. - UtherSRG (talk) 18:31, 29 June 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Hey Materialscientist, good to see you back after that two-week break! I like your low-tolerance approach when it comes to countering vandalism. Can't think of any other admins who regularly use Huggle to place blocks like you do.
So regarding that User:Paul is describing account you blocked for 31-hrs. You might want to do a checkuser run on it – see what I and another editor wrote at the SPI. Basically there seems to be a lot of coordinated and sequential editing going on between it and the (already blocked) 'User:Master of all cinemalovers' account.

Mathematics is not an opinion
[edit]Wikipedia's attitude is clearly skeptical and hostile towards Nostradamus. Invented prophecies, wrong solutions or forcing by some interpreters are highlighted. The blame for all this is subtly placed on Nostradamus and it is stated that his prophecies can only be identified after the events have occurred. Which is completely normal. Never has a cryptic prophecy been correctly exposed before it occurred. Prophecy is the message that God entrusts to the prophet to make known to men. There are two types of prophecies: explicit and cryptic. The explicit one is for example when God entrusts the tables of the law to Moses. The cryptic one is John's prophecy of the apocalypse, full of symbols, codes and figures that can hardly be interpreted before the events stated happen and in fact almost two thousand years have passed since its enunciation. My contribution is based on scientific and mathematical evidence specifying the source for which it can be objectively assessed. There is no adequate justification for removing it. It means wanting to also deny the Pythagorean theorem without giving a rational justification. 151.50.94.171 (talk) 07:41, 21 July 2024 (UTC)

Patrick Lancaster
[edit]I edited Patrick's page a while back and you removed my edit.
I have posted a User Talk Comment on Patrick's biography. It speaks for itself. I hope you can suggest my next step to remove these vile representation that violate Wikipedia content rules in my opinion.
"Libelous and False Statements Against Patrick Lancaster
This Wikipedia Article contains false statements, fabrications, derogatory and offensive commentary, illogical innuendos, and other malicious statements about my son Patrick Lancaster. I contend it is therefore libelous and a violation of United States Civil Law. As well as Wikipedia's content violation policies and procedures Not so much if at all; do I hold Wikipedia at fault. I’m sure malevolent contributions often slip past your editor. And most people, can see the malevolence in what is written here, and take it with a grain of salt.
Patrick and I have both known about this article for years. And Patrick has long been used to these cruel and defamatory allegations. But I am Patrick’s father and I am very upset. To the point I must respond.
I am an academic with two masters' degrees in the social sciences from the University of Missouri, these illogical, derogatory and false statements infuriate me as a person who understand logical and truthful written prose.
So lets get right to it.
I’ll start with the minor libelous statements such as where Patrick being demeaned as a “vlogger, podcaster, influencer.” And they reference Patrick as a “so-called journalist.” Patrick is on sabbatical due to the war in Ukraine from a prestigious Christian University in the United States where he has Junior Standing in their Journalism Bachelor’s degree program. He is a journalist, not a “vlogger, podcaster, or influencer.” The "journalists” who have written these false, libelous, and derogatory mean accusations should be ashamed.
In Patrick’s Wikipedia biograph here, Graham Philips wrote that my son is an “illiterate, grifting charlatan, with a journalistic acumen and ability lower than a potted plant.” This is a disgraceful statement and I am shocked and dismayed that a statement of this kind could ever appear in what I consider a high-quality web site. Certainly, Wikipedia must have allowed this statement in error.
According to Phillips own Wikipedia biography; “Phillips became the only British-born citizen to date to be sanctioned by his own country.” Due to his interview with a British soldier who was caught and detained by Russia as a prisoner of war after fighting as a mercenary for Ukraine. The article states that “On 20 April, Phillips was criticized by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and by Member of Parliament Robert Jenrick in the House of Commons. Johnson accused Phillips of producing propaganda messages and Jenrick said ‘Graham Phillips is in danger of prosecution for war crimes.” YouTube since removed Phillips' interview of the British citizen and demonetized his channel.
And this guy has the temerity to slander and libel my son.
It is sad that Philips has distributed these vile comments on the World Wide Web. Patrick decided to pursue a career in journalism after working for a time with Philips in Crimea during the referendum that led to the territory voting to join Russia. Clearly Patrick and Graham had a falling out after Patrick went on his own to report in the Donbas.
The biography attempts to further damage and discredit Patrick for appearing on controversial media figure Alex Jones’ television show in the United States. This is a common logical fallacy referred to as “guilt by association.” This fallacy occurs when someone is judged by their association with a group or person, rather than their own actions or merits.
Another derogatory reference in this biography of Patrick, Jeff Fogel wrote in the Task & Purpose online publication; “Navy veteran Patrick Lancaster describes himself on Facebook as an independent crowdfunded journalist, but critics argue that he is a foot soldier in the Kremlin’s information war against Ukraine.” This is a highly offensive statement with no basis in fact. Therefore, it could be seen by the courts as a libel against my son.
And all of this pales to the horrible statement that Patrick “has been called a double agent due {...} to his videos covering the War and repeating pro-kremlin talking points. Lancaster is known for regularly filming staged scenes and attempting to pass them off as real, and has been referred to as a fake master.”
This type of rhetoric become life-threatening to individuals, particularly in the case of my Son. Do I need to go on?
I suggest this entire biography be either deleted or cleaned up to remove the clearly false, libelous, and slanderous statement. Tim191k (talk) 07:38, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
I found this on Wikipedia that mirrors my objections.
"Editors should not make false statements on Wikipedia. There are many ways that editors can lie on Wikipedia, such as deliberately using a quote out of context to mislead readers, fabricating a reference, stating content is not included in an article when it actually is, or making untrue accusations about the conduct of another editor. There are many reasons that editors lie: to back up their argument about article content, to support their position in a policy discussion, or to advance a biased point of view in an article.
Regardless of how Wikipedia editors lie or their reasons for lying, lying harms the quality of the encyclopedia, as it can lead to incorrect or biased information in articles. False information in Wikipedia articles hurts the reputation of the encyclopedia. False information in some articles, such as legal, medical or medication articles, could have serious real-world consequences. And making false, negative statements about a living person can expose Wikipedia to legal issues for defamation.
Lying is also harmful to the online Wikipedia community which edits and develops the encyclopedia. The online community requires editors to work in good faith and behave in a civil manner with each other. False accusations against other editors on Talk pages can lead to editors to leave the project. When editors are found to have made false claims about holding degrees or other credentials, this can reduce other editors' trust and weaken the reputation of the encyclopedia (see Essjay controversy)." Invitation to participate in a research
[edit]Hello,
The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.
You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.
The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .
Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

User:CommanderOfIndus
[edit]I know you keep an eye on UAE pages. This user removed large swathes of content on UAE articles recently, to the point where I looked up their contributions, which appear to be largely and similarly unhelpful, for instance https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=2020%E2%80%932021_China%E2%80%93India_skirmishes&diff=prev&oldid=1254310469 or this https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=History_of_the_Jews_in_Kurdistan&diff=prev&oldid=1179660059 diff adding the unsourced statement 'There are no Jews in the region of Kurdistan' and the edit summary 'Added new content with reference'. It would seem there is an awful lot more where that came from and I'm frankly surprised nobody has flagged up more of these edits. Would you mind taking a look? ANI where I mentioned you
[edit]There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. The thread is Ratnahastin is reverting my perfectly legitimate edit and making accusations of my being a sock of some other user at the very outset.. Thank you. I'm letting you know because I mentioned your name in relation to another editor who pinged you, but I see zero possibility your behaviour could come up with discussion. I see you've turned off pings so would have missed this were it not for me so sorry to bring it up but I didn't see a way to make my point without mentioning you.
