Look at WP:RS to see what sort of references count for notability. Others can be used for more info. Can't remember what article this is - very long hard day - but if I've tagged it for references to be improved, you usually get a while. If I tagged it for deletion as unref bio of living person, you get 10 days. Peridon (talk) 19:36, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
- Be careful with IMDb - the info is largely user supplied and it doesn't count as reliable. I've seen cases where someone was citing IMDb to back something up, and the info cited was about someone totally different. It was even physically impossible for it to be right in one case. Peridon (talk) 19:42, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

{{Refbegin}}
*Press paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) after this asterisk, then remove the <ref></ref> tags
{{Refend}}
Thank you for your help
[edit]Thanks for helping me sort out those pages I started (I also started one for makeup winner Ve Niell) I've been a long time user of Wikipedia, just never decided to start an account till recently! Anyway, I decided to put up pages for those that seemed like they can use one. Sadly the sound cats don't have all the links so I don't know if all of them are there. (And of course I've found tons of wrong links, someone else found a intresting one on makeup for Hook though it looked like where instead of leading to the makeup artist it lead to a, well an adult star) Names that I might add soon: Craig Berkey (Sound artist who works with the Coens); Ben Snow (Multiple nominated visual effects artist); Cheryl Carasik (Multiple nominated art director); John Bright (Costume designer who use to work with Jenny Beaven); Janet Patterson (Muliple nominated costume designer); As well as quite a few makeup artist who have no pages yet. There are some older nominees I might add as well from the 30s/40s. (As well as films) Kamkek (talk) 15:37, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
- You're welcome! Thanks, also, to you for adding all of these new pages. They are certainly needed! Thanks! (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 19:57, 1 February 2011 (UTC))
- No problem, I am currently am skimming through the years looking at films that might need links. What is annoying is how case sensitive it might be (so a film titled "The House of so and so" would have to have the of not captilized) The annoying years are the late 60s to the late 70s where tons of info is missing. Well might as well do some stuff right now. Kamkek (talk) 20:02, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, I agree. But, it's a lot better now than it was before. New stuff gets added all the time ... and old stuff gets improved all the time. It's just a matter of playing "catch up" with some of the older articles. Good luck. And thanks again for all your contributions! (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 22:39, 1 February 2011 (UTC))
- Well I did make a couple of hours ago my first page for a film, it was one from the first Oscars. Here The_Magic_Flame. Kamkek (talk) 04:57, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
- Great work! Thanks! (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 17:57, 6 February 2011 (UTC))
- Thank you! From the looks of it, only one film is left from the first Oscars that is pageless! Well I did help somewhat with a page that someone started a few weeks ago but never did much for, for a 1936 film called "Texas Rangers" Right now I'm continuing looking for names that might link to something else. (like the lady who did the costumes for Raiders of the Lost Ark had a diffrent name on the year she was nominated so she was not linked.) Also I'm finding some foriegn noms under a diffrent title. Kamkek (talk) 20:53, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. Keep up the good work! (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 16:44, 7 February 2011 (UTC))
Oscars
[edit]Hello. Here (below) are some charts that I once found on Wikipedia. They are somewhat old; it was probably a year or two ago (or so) that I ran across them. Maybe they are helpful to you, nonetheless. Thanks! (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 00:54, 3 February 2011 (UTC))

The earliest winner in this category who is still alive is Ernest Borgnine (1956) followed by Maximilian Schell (1962) both won over Spencer Tracy and starred in the films Tracy was nominated. The few remaining living nominees from the 1940s-50s Hollywood era include Kirk Douglas (3 nominations), Tony Curtis and Richard Todd (1 each). Sidney Poitier also received his first nomination in 1958 with Curtis.
Real life winners
[edit]Okay now, I was just wondering if someone can provide a list of people who won for real people. As you may notice, every year since 1998 someone has won for playing one. (And I do remember reading that Bullock was I believe the 13th person to win for playing a real person who was alive at the time) Kamkek (talk) 22:03, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
Okay, this is who I have so far:
Best actor: Forest Whitaker for The Last King of Scotland,Robert Deniro for Raging Bull, Philip Seymore Hoffman for Capote, Jamie Foxx for Ray, Geoffrey Rush for Shine, Sean Penn for Milk), Daniel Day Lewis for My Left Foot, Adrien Brody for The Pianist, F. Murray Abraham for Amadeus, Ben Kingsley for Gandhi, George C. Scott for Patton, Gene Hackman for The French Connection, Paul Scofield for A Man for All Seasons, Yul Brynner for The King and I, James Cagney for Yankee Doodle Dandy, Gary Cooper for Sergeant York, Paul Muni for The Story of Louis Pasteur, Charles Laughton for The Private Life of Henry VIII, George Arliss for Disraeli and Jeremy Irons for Reversal of Fortune
Best actress: Sandra Bullock for The Blind Side, Reese Witherspoon for Walk the Line, Helen Mirren for The Queen, Marion Cotillard for La Vie En Rose, Charlize Theron for Monster, Nicole Kidman for The Hours, Julia Roberts for Erin Brockovich, Hillary Swank for Boys Don't Cry, Susan Sarandon for Dead Men Walking, Jodie Foster for The Accused, Sissy Spacek for Coal Miner's Daughter, Katharine Hepburn for The Lion in Winter, Anne Bancroft for The Miracle Worker), Susan Hayward for I Want to Live!, Joanne Woodward for The Three Faces of Eve, Ingrid Bergman for Anastasia, Jennifer Jones for The Song of Bernadette, Luise Rainer for The Great Ziegfeld
Best supporting actor: Chris Cooper for Adaptation., Jim Broadbent for Iris, Martin Landau for Ed Wood, Haing S. Ngor for The Killing Fields, Jason Robards for Julia, Jason Robards for All the President's Men, Peter Ustinov for Spartacus, Anthony Quinn for Lust for Life, Anthony Quinn for Viva Zapata!, Walter Brennan for The Westerner and Joseph Schildkraut for The Life of Emile Zola
Best supporting actress:
Cate Blanchett for The Aviator, Jennifer Connelly for A Beautiful Mind, Marcia Gay Harden for Pollock, Judi Dench for Shakespeare in Love, Angelina Jolie for Girl, Interrupted, Brenda Fricker for My Left Foot, Maureen Stapleton for Reds, Mary Steenburgen for Melvin and Howard, Vanessa Redgrave for Julia, Estelle Parsons for Bonnie and Clyde, Patty Duke for The Miracle Worker, Shelly Winters for The Diary of Anne Frank and Alice Brady for In Old Chicago
In all honesty, this make a good page on Wikipedia instead of just a section on here.
And yeah I didn't do them in any order, though I eventully went in reverse order by years to double check to see if I missed anyone.
And yeah sometimes the film was a true story but had non true characters (Bridge on River Kwaii, 12 O'Clock High, ect.)
Kamkek (talk) 02:42, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
So do you know of any others to start a page? Thanks
Kamkek (talk) 01:06, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
- Hi. (1) Did you see the Oscar charts that I added to your Talk Page? They are related to the earliest/oldest Oscar winners and nominees.
- (2) Did you see this page: Talk:Academy Award for Best Actor#Non-fictional roles ...? It lists the non-fictional roles (real people) for Best Actor.
- (3) Some of your idea are good ... but some do not deserve/warrant a separate brand-new page. And, if the page were created, it might get deleted. So, I'd hate to see all that work go to waste. As far as a page for Oscar winners/nominees playing non-fictional roles ... I can see that going either way. There are strong arguments (A) that it can have its own page (like many of the other Oscar-related pages) ... but there are also strong arguments that it (B) should just be a separate section in the Best Actor article (or whichever). If I were to be asked, I would vote for "A" ... a separate article ... where we can list all the awards on one page (Actor, Actress, etc.) ... rather than split them up between the four different acting articles.
- (4) As far as looking for someone to create these pages ... I have 2 suggestions. (1) Post a note on the Talk Page of, say, Best Actor (or whatever page). (2) If you scan the Academy Award pages, you will see a lot of the same editors who contribute to -- and are interested in -- Academy Award information. I'd post a note on their Talk Pages, seeking any interest. Thanks! (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 01:34, 3 February 2011 (UTC))
- Hey sorry I didn't get the message since it didn't go to me but to you. Anyway, yeah I just saw that, does look like I missed some people. (Hey I didn't know Iris had real people until I looked it up!) Anyway, maybe just mention it on the main pages of the awards. BTW there was a guy editing some nasty stuff on the 1st Academy Awards, I reverted his edits, is there a way to report him? Clue Bot got him earlier before me but this was later. Kamkek (talk) 14:22, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
- Hi. Thanks. Yes, I think it might be best for now to include it on the main page of the award ... and not create a separate article. As far as reporting a guy for vandalism ... yes, I am sure that there is a way to do that. I don't know the exact procedure, however, as I have never done that. Whenever you need help or have a question, you can type this on your Talk Page: {{helpme}}. If you type that on your Talk Page, along with your question, other editors will get the "help needed" message and will reply to you on your Talk Page. I hope that's helpful. To use that tag, you need to type the words "helpme" (without using the quotation marks) ... but you need to also type in the opening and closing "{{" and "}}" symbols. In other words, type this: {{helpme}} How do I report an editor who keeps vandalizing the Academy Award article? (or something to that effect) I hope this helps. Thanks! (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 16:18, 3 February 2011 (UTC))
- I added a note about this on all four of the Talk Pages for the Academy Award for acting categories. Thanks! (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 20:46, 2 April 2011 (UTC))
Grammar and Tone
[edit]I have reviewed a few of the articles you have edited and have noticed a pattern of somewhat poor grammar in many of your edits. While I appreciate your additions I believe it would be best if you contacted some reviewers about your articles that would help ensure proper style and grammar. -Nem1yan (talk) 01:35, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
Speedy deletion declined: Capacitive Micromachined Ultrasonic Transducers
[edit]I notice that you tagged the page Capacitive Micromachined Ultrasonic Transducers for speedy deletion with the reason "an article about a company, corporation, organization, or group that does not credibly indicate the importance or significance of the subject". While that's a valid reason for speedy deletion in general, this page does not qualify for speedy deletion under that criterion because this article is not about a company, it's about a type of transducer. If you still want the page to be deleted, please consider tagging it with a speedy deletion template which does apply, redirecting it to another page, or using the WP:AFD process. Thanks! – GorillaWarfare talk • contribs 19:48, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
G10 tagging
[edit]Your tag was good; don't worry. If you're manually tagging G10, you need to blank the page (which you did), but you need to put {{db-attack|blanked=yes}}; if you don't you have to edit it and remove a random space that gets inserted before it works properly. Thought you might find that useful. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 17:46, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
Okay thanks, sometimes I also type it too fast and then put it wrong, so yeah thank you.
- Re your message; you put progressive uw-speedy warnings on their talkpage, starting with {{uw-speedy1}}. If they do it after a final warning, then make an AIV report; I've done that a couple of times. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 19:51, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
I'm wondering if you clicked the wrong button wen you tagged Hookflash as a hoax. It clearly is not. It is more likely to be a copyvio.--SPhilbrickT 20:23, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
Just to let you know I don't think it's a bio - it's a copy and paste from Software architecture and I've tagged it A10 accordingly. I've left your tag on as well, just in case... Keep up the good work. Peridon (talk) 19:42, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
- William looks totally non-notable unless something really wild appears. Watch it for a day or so. It's got a references header, so they might add something. It'll have to be more than refs to what's there. Peridon (talk) 19:52, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

BLP proposed deletion of Lily Alone
[edit]I removed the BLP prod tag you placed on Lily Alone, as the article subject is a book, not a biography of a living person, and therefore cannot be deleted via BLP prod. I have, however, nominated the article for regular prod, as it is still completely unreferenced and does not demonstrate how it meets notability guidelines. —KuyaBriBriTalk 21:15, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
Tagging
[edit]Can I suggest having a good read through Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion? Getting the right tag isn't always easy - I cock up at times, so do we all. But getting the wrong one can lead to it being declined, and then no-one else checking why it should REALLY have gone. Are you working manually or with a tool? If with a tool, you might be hitting the wrong button (or whatever they have). If manually, which is how I work, you may need to bookmark this link and check through it. At first, I went through it every time, and copy and pasted the templates. Later I found I could remember the ones I used most - and just looked up the others. I'm not trying to put you off, just to help you get things right (which saves everyone time...). A tip if doing it manually (if you'll forgive the expression) is to use the names not the numbers. I know db-spam, db-talk and so on, but I couldn't tell you what A6 was (apart from being a rather nice Audi or a small piece of paper...). If you have problems, please ask for advice (but not me tonight - early start in the morning). Peridon (talk) 21:16, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
Just a note about your Prod tag. This article is about a bar and music venue in a former garage that happens to be named after someone named "Sam Bond". But it's not actually about Sam Bond, nor is he mentioned in the article (I'm not even sure he's a real person), so it's not subject to BLP. Cheers, Valfontis (talk) 21:24, 10 February 2011 (UTC) Yeah thanks, I'm getting the hang of this now. I'm done tagging for the day (and its only the afternoon here!) Well probably later today, but yeah I did alot.Kamkek (talk) 21:25, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
Speedy deletion declined: Bubble Pump
[edit]Hello Kamkek. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Bubble Pump, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Not unambiguously promotional. Thank you. PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 01:43, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
Speedy deletion converted to PROD: Mayall Road
[edit]Hello Kamkek. I am just letting you know that I have converted the speedy deletion tag that you placed on Mayall Road to a proposed deletion tag, because I do not believe CSD applies to the page in question. Thank you. PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 02:06, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
Improper speedy
[edit]This edit, tagging Maxwell jordan for speedy deletion for "no credible assertion of notability" was invalid. A "credible assertion of notability" is made in the article, calling Jordan "the pre-eminent researcher and independent scholar in the fields of occult & religious philosophy". While this claim may turn out to be complete bollocks, it is credible on its face, and requires a more deliberative process than speedy deletion. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 18:38, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
Okay thank you, I was unsure about that article as I have noticed other ones by him that said "speedy deletion" It was a tough case.
Kamkek (talk) 18:40, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
- Got it speedied for spam instead... Both articles have been repeatedly speedied - perhaps the admins will salt now. Peridon (talk) 18:44, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
Yep, thanks. I'm also am checking out the last few pages for anything that has been missed. (I did find one last night for a non existint Tom Cruise film)
Kamkek (talk) 18:45, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
G11 speedies
[edit]I don't think Batchalorking and Dj zombie were G11s - they were clear A7s, as they just gave a name and a link, with no assertion of importance, but they were not promotional. WP:CSD#G11 is only for "Pages that are exclusively promotional", and is rather over-used: if there is some promotional element but A7 also applies it is preferable to use that, to avoid a situation where the author takes out a few adjectives, says "now it's not promotion" and has to be told, in effect, "OK, you pass G11, but gotcha under A7!" There is good advice for speedy taggers at WP:10CSD and WP:A7M. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 19:02, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
Welcome pages
[edit]Another point about speedy tagging: if the author is a newbie with nothing on their talk page, it is useful to give them a Welcome paragraph before the speedy notice - it is less WP:BITEy, and gives them useful links which may help them avoid the same mistake next time. A useful one is {{firstarticle|<article name>}} - you can see what it looks like at User talk:IAmDee. It has one oddity: it automatically adds your signature, so for once you need not to put four tildes after it. Keep up the good work - New Page Patrol needs all the eyes it can get! JohnCD (talk) 19:51, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
- And just for you, an extra bonus tip: If you use Wikipedia:Twinkle to help you with your patrolling (and you really, really want to be doing this because it makes these things so much easier :), it will automatically add a welcome template to the user talk page before the speedy deletion notification if the author doesn't have anything on their talk page. You can add it from the "Gadgets" tab in your preferences. Then just click the new "TW" tab at the top of every article. Clicking CSD will bring up the list of CSD criteria, and clicking one of those will automatically tag the page with the appropriate template and take care of notifying the user. You can also PROD articles or take them to AfD in the same way by choosing the appropriate options from the menu. On user talk pages, the "Warn" option lets you easily give warning templates for virtually everything. It's a super handy tool, and I'd say most regular new page and recent changes patrollers use. Hope this helps :) Happy editing. Zachlipton (talk) 05:16, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
- I must give some different advice. Please delay using twinkle until your tagging is more accurate. Twinkle is indeed very helpful, but it makes it too easy to go faster than a person can properly consider the articles. We do appreciate your efforts--please don't regard our criticism as discouraging. Rather, good luck in learning! DGG ( talk ) 20:48, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
Another tip
[edit]Peter James Perry O'Rourke wrote his first maths text book at three. Oh yeh? He created the yoyo. But he was born in 1981. Yoyos were around in 500 BCE. It's a hoax. Your tag is correct, however. He is definitely non-notable. I've put the hoax tag on. Tagging in CSD isn't all that easy sometimes. You were right to stick to the lesser level, though, if you weren't sure. With one like this, look closely. A maths book at three? There'd already be an article about this prodigy. Google (or Wiki search) yoyo. I'm old enough to know that they were around before 1981. You mightn't be. It's better to take a moment and possibly miss the chance to tag it because you're beaten to it. (Unless you are having a tagging race with someone - which is really not recommended. Keep it up - you will learn loads this way. But take a bit of time. Look at what the article says. I'm a speed reader - but I can sometimes miss something. If you're not, you must take time. Peridon (talk) 20:57, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
Okay thanks (I was not born till 82, but I know Yo Yos were around before that) Funny how some of these can be really off (One was something like "Born 1875, was a model in the year 2010, um yeah that be the oldest person ever) Kamkek (talk) 20:59, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
- I should point out that I wasn't around in 500 BCE - yoyos had been around for a thousand years or more when I was born (not that I can work the damn things...). Peridon (talk) 21:10, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
This page is unreferenced, uncategorized, very short and likely not notable, and yet you marked as patrolled without even adding any maintenance templates. Next time your patrolling and you see a page like that, please at least add some templates to it before marking as patrolled. JDDJS (talk) 17:20, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
I probably hit that on accident then, whoops. Because I only try to patrol if it has stuff on it.

- Okay, that's good enough for me. Just try to be more careful in the future. JDDJS (talk) 17:26, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

the page for "Mohammed Mamdouh" appears to be on delete notice with your edits, I try to add sources, it blocks my ip... like imdb page etc
[edit]This help request has been answered. If you need more help, you can , contact the responding user(s) directly on their user talk page, or consider visiting the Teahouse. |
That's because imdb isn't a very good source to link to. Some parts of it are good, like the writing credits marked with "WGA" that are supplied directly by the Writers Guild of America (where applicable), and the MPAA ratings reasons, where they appear, that are supplied directly by the Motion Picture Association of America. The rest of it, though, isn't very good:
- Any potentially contentious material about living persons (BLPs)
- The IMDb message boards, which are inherently not reliable.
- The user comments for each title, which are pure user-generated content.
- Sections written in wiki-style with minimal editorial control. Those would be the FAQs for particular titles (not the database FAQ), the parents guides, and the plot synopses (not to be confused with the plot outlines or plot summaries, which are subject to editorial control).
- Newsgroup reviews, which are archived Usenet postings.
- The trivia and goofs sections that are based on user submissions.
- The recommendations.
So many people were posting references to the "bad" sections of it that finally it was decided to block references to "most" parts of it. But the good parts are easily found elsewhere. You can also try using one of the templates found on this page: IMDb templates. What other websites did you want to link to? Let me know on my talk page or put the {{help me}} template back up and someone else will be along to help. :) Banaticus (talk) 23:04, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
Patrol
[edit]Hi there, I saw you tagged King air bomb for speedy deletion — when you tag pages for speedy deletion, can you make sure to mark as patrolled pages so they don't show up as still needing review? This saves work for other editors also patrolling new pages. Cheers, Feezo (Talk) 20:29, 14 February 2011 (UTC) Yeah I always press patrol then, but then the guy made another article with the same name was what happened.Kamkek (talk) 20:30, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
Speedy deletion contested: Ek sapne ki maut
[edit]Hello Kamkek, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I contested the speedy deletion of Ek sapne ki maut, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Not blatantly vandalism or a hoax. this was just a woefully incomplete article, not a promotional article. Since we regard all colleges (including community colleges) as appropriate for an article, I did not delete it. Please re-read WP:CSD and only use the deletion tags when the really apply--there are other ways of dealing with articles that need improvement, such as giving advice to the author. DGG ( talk ) 20:43, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
Don't tag too quickly
[edit]Hi. {{db-hoax}} was not an appropriate tag at Fear the Beer, when the article just repeated the words of the title. That is covered by {{db-nocontent}}; but more importantly, you should not have tagged the article only one minute after it was created by a newbie author. Many new authors start off hesitantly, and it is extremely discouraging for them to see a speedy tag pop up while they are thinking about their second sentence. If I had seen that as soon as you tagged it, I would have applied a {{hasty}} template, but 25 minutes had gone by and the author had gone, probably never to return. We have an unfortunately well earned, but unnecessary, reputation for being unfriendly to new users. Please read WP:BITE, and wait at least 10 - 15 minutes before tagging as A1 or A3 a very short new article. JohnCD (talk) 21:31, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
Hello Kamkek. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Kotagudda, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Not blatantly vandalism or a hoax. Thank you. GedUK 21:37, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

Hoax
[edit]I tagged the Foddio Trio as a hoax - it was a real load of rubbish and has gone as vandalism - and put a personal attack warning (level 1} on OpheliaEscaulus. I've removed most of her post here. It happens. When it does, it usually means you were right... Another tip: try shadowing a regular patroller and just see what they tag and work out why (and then see what happens...). It's less painful than charging in and finding out you weren't right. And never be afraid to ask. If someone gets in while you're asking, so what? the job's done and that's the thing. Use Google on suspected hoaxes. I usually do at least three searches per hoax. I can't remember getting knocked back on one yet. Peridon (talk) 15:26, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
- Once again - do a quick Google. It's not a points race. Sometimes you can even find someone has tagged wrongly while you were Googling, and you can then either change the tag or remove it - giving your reason in the edit summary, of course. The example I quote is 'Bobble-head doll syndrome'. I mean, it's so obviously a hoax. But it wasn't. It is a rare condition, but real. The object here is to get accuracy. The object of some people outside is to get wrong stuff in either because they are vandals or because they are saboteurs. I suspect some of the better hoaxes are sabotage - being planted so that they can be publicly exposed to show how lousy we are at catching them. Until you really get good at them, ask for advice or leave 'em. Someone will catch them. The new stuff patrolling is way better now. Peridon (talk) 15:41, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
- One more thing - when you tag or edit, do use the edit summary. Just put db-hoax, prod blp, or typo if it's simple, but explain concisely if it's a bit more complex. It saves going into prevs when checking what's going on. (I put db-spam if it's not 200% blatantly obvious, and just spam if it is. Just a personal thing.) Peridon (talk) 15:48, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

Why blank the content
[edit]When you applied this tag to Joshua orvin yaury, why did you blank the content of the page? WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:49, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
- The article has now been deleted, so you may not have a clear recollection. You had tagged the article for deletion under WP:CSD#A7 (notability), but you blanked the content of the article (which, admittedly, was less than completely flattering). Page blanking is only supposed to be used in the case of a blatant attack page, in which case the proper tag to apply is {{db-attack}}. Properly tagging pages gets them the proper attention -- attack pages tend to get deleted more quickly than merely non-notable pages. Please be careful to choose the proper criterion for your tagging in the future. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:22, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
Speedy deletion declined: Il mondo di Lilly
[edit]Hello Kamkek. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Il mondo di Lilly, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: A quick Google shows this is NOT a hoax. Speedy Deletion and New Users
[edit]I object to your use of the speedy deletion tag within the first few hours of an articles life. As a new user of Wikipedia (with regard to writing articles) it was a surprise to see your request in my talk page and the article I constructed. As it happens I didn't have time to write more information on that article and was planning on returning to it later, your instant and aggressive stance made me think twice about contributing to Wikipedia. I appear don't appear to be the only person on WIkipedia with these concerns either... Pizza21 (talk) 17:07, 16 February 2011 (UTC) Sorry about that, the reason was because it sounded like one as people have done that before saying they invented something. (Plus I figured that the inventor already have a page on here!)
Re
[edit]If an administrator moves an article to another title without a redirect, the article will still show up on Special:NewPages as an unpatrolled article; however, when you click on it the article doesn't exist. There's a bug in the software that borks it; see {{db-unpatrolled}}. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 17:48, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
Pages blanked by their author
[edit]Hi. If a page is completely blank, you need to have a look at the history. Often, as with Revd Professor David Wilkinson and Trimammium just now, it has been blanked by its author, probably because he has seen a speedy or copyvio notice and realises it is inappropriate. In that case, don't tag it {{db-nocontent}} (though that is true) but {{db-author}} or {{db-g7}} author requests deletion, and there is no need to give the author a notice of speedy deletion. What is worse and often happens (but not what you did here) is when the author is given a vandalism warning for the blanking. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 18:12, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
BLP PROD
[edit]Regarding this edit at Amelia zidane, please do not use the {{PROD BLP}} deletion template with articles that have sources. You might have meant to use the {{PROD}} template, which supports the use of a rationale like the one you used in this deletion proposal. Also, please mention that you are proposing the article's deletion in the edit summary. One other thing, why did you add the phrase "Bold Text" to the article? Thanks! VQuakr (talk) 03:23, 17 February 2011 (UTC)
Yes, you were right to tag it as a load of rubbish, but it had someone's name in it as an example of the creature - therefore it is an attack. (I've blanked it and tagged it.) (Same with Porn gorillas.) I would suggest suggest again you shadow one or more of us to see what we do. I did quite a bit of watching when I started on New Accounts. I looked at what someone had tagged, and worked out why. And I kept a copy of Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion to hand for quite some time. (I still use it if not sure, but can remember the ones I use most - spam, bio, hoax, inc, and vandalism.) Spend a little time without tagging, but just watching. No-one comes fully formed into Wikipedia - an apprenticeship of sorts is needed. Peridon (talk) 22:05, 17 February 2011 (UTC)
Mystery
[edit]I'd go for db-context or db-content - it fits both as there's no other history. Perhaps they are re-creating something deleted and playing cautious... Peridon (talk) 22:07, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

Nice catch
[edit]"Sir Nicholas Lionel James Bryant" indeed. I wondered whether to add a spam tag - the Guardian tags leading to Guardian Life assurance not the paper - but thought yours was enough. It's quite a well constructed hoax - it might have fooled me even - until the refs are checked. Peridon (talk) 22:18, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

CSD notification

Your article, Murray Edmund Watts was nominated for deletion as a copyvio by another editor. I rewrote it sufficiently to avoid deletion, and is is clearly notable. . Please remember to avoid WP:Close paraphrase--it is necessary to more than change to words, but to reorganize the article. , DGG ( talk ) 02:22, 23 February 2011 (UTC)
imdb
[edit]Perhaps rather than nominate an article for proposed deletion saying it needs imdb references at least, you could look for the imdb reference yourself and add it for a start, if it's there. If it isn't, as seems to be the case for at least some of the articles you nominated for deletion, you should say that; it facilitates the necessary deletion. I've deleted some of your nominated articles where I did fail to verify on imdb. Ideally, one should look further before nominating or deleting, but I myself do not always do so if there appears to chance of notability. DGG ( talk ) 23:10, 23 February 2011 (UTC) Hey thanks, yeah I thought of that before, just really never got down to it! I have submited in a few articles myself using the IMDB along with some other movie sites like TCM and others. I have used this site for years, just never thought of submitting stuff till recently! Patrolling is hard. Sometimes there are border line cases. (The toughest are the foreign ones IMO. They seem to be the ones who delete the speedys the most often.) Well have a nice day.

NPP backlog list
[edit]Hi, further to the concern you expressed at NPP 30-day talk the discussion on the NPP backlog list is here. Your input would be welcome because we need to find out whether the backlog has been cleared by a human editor, a new large team of patrollers, or by a software or bot glitch. Thanks. - I've seen the discussion there NPP is an essential, and t's great that you like to do it. I still try to do some occasionally, along with everything else; I find my accuracy decreases sharply after the first 100 or so: what happens with me, is that I delete an excessive number of articles--seeing so many bad article inclines me to see everything as being bad. Other people will show other symptoms. The way I look at it, is the need to balance getting it all done, with the need to get it right--to tag the appropriate issues, send the proper notices, to make sure the notice are personalized, to sometimes make some easy fixes oneself to save work for other people later on. It's great that you like to do it, but there is no , and I urge you not to go too long or too fast. On the 23rd, you were going much too fast. An article such as Mormon Literature & Creative Arts should have been tagged for having no third party sources, and Norfolk Christian Football League as unsourced, and probably also as possibly not notable, to look at the first two I happened to check. If these problems are not caught immediately, they may not be noticed. I'm not tagging them myself right now, so you can see them. There's also the matter of indicating articles about subjects which are clearly not-notable , like Brawely Middle School--middle schools are almost never notable and are merged to the district or other jurisdiction. I don't think you[['ve been tagging or nominating for deletion excessively, but rather, not being sufficiently critical. DGG ( talk ) 01:56, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
- I agree, it appears that Kamkek typically marks most articles as patrolled without addressing any of the issues with the article (either by fixing them or by tagging them for cleanup). This is highly problematic, especially considering the sheer number of articles he is marking as patrolled. I've recently tried to start a page that lists the minimum checks that patrollers should be doing on new articles, perhaps it would be helpful in this case although it is still a work in progress. Kamkek, please see User:Snottywong/NPP checklist for ideas on how to more thoroughly patrol new articles. The point of WP:NPP is quality, not quantity. —SW— babble 19:23, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Screencast for new NPP tool design?
[edit]Hello. This is Ian Baker. I'm a developer over at the Wikimedia Foundation.
tl;dr: We’re designing a much-improved UI for NPP tools, and we’re seeking guidance—and hopefully, screencasts of your NPP workflow—from expert New Page Patrollers like yourself. We’re asking for this so we can see (literally) what actions you take during patrolling which could be better supported through software.
I'm contacting you because, according to our statistics, you're a particularly active New Page Patroller on the English Wikipedia. Here at the WMF, we're working on a design for a much-improved NPP user interface. We hope that it will (as part of a larger strategy) address many outstanding issues in the article creation process, while also providing a more modern, streamlined and efficient UX for patrollers.
To do this successfully, we are relying upon the guidance of our most experienced patrollers. I'm sending this message to the ten most prolific patrollers in 2011, and a few other people who've been participating actively in this discussion.
Specifically, I'm hoping you can take a few minutes to record a screencast of yourself doing NPP. We're looking for a 10-15 minute session, but more is okay if you feel it's needed. Ideally, you'd first walk us through your process, explaining as you go, and then switch to doing NPP at your usual pace.
Our preliminary examination of this feature has shown that many experienced patrollers have evolved their own specially-tailored interface and workflow, often using external tools and plugins. Making an interface that works well will require understanding those tools and the motivation for using them. However, even if you haven't done that, observing your NPP technique will still be valuable, giving us insights into what factors inform your judgement, how you use the existing interface, and how long NPP generally takes an expert patroller such as yourself.
If you'd like to help, great! I've posted a set of instructions over at the relevant thread on the Article Creation Workflow talk page, which should get you everything you need to know. If something's missing or you have a question, post it there. That's also the place to go if you want to learn more about the reasoning behind this request.
I understand that people have differing expectations of privacy with regard to their own computer and voice. Therefore, you can either post this screencast publicly (place a link in the talk page above) or if you'd prefer, send it to me privately at [email protected].
Of course, any other input on this feature that you’d like to provide is also welcome. Don't hesitate to get involved in the discussion on the above-linked talk page, or contact me personally. I'd love to hear from you.
Thanks! raindrift (talk) 00:13, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
