Hi - Thanks for the Charles Pratt edit in List of Amherst College people. I'm wondering, though, if the dorm gift was for Morris Pratt (which has always been a dorm afaik) or Charles Pratt (which used to be the geology building and is becoming a dorm as I type.) The name makes me suspect the latter; do you know? - Pjmorse 11:49, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
Your recent contribution(s) to Wikipedia are very much appreciated. However, you did not provide references or sources for your information. Keeping Wikipedia accurate and verifiable is very important, and as you might be aware there is currently a drive to improve the quality of Wikipedia by encouraging editors to cite the sources they used when adding content. Can you provide in the article specific references to any books, articles, websites or other reliable sources that will allow people to verify the content in the article? You can use a citation method listed at inline citations that best suits each article. Thanks! Leuko 15:08, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Philanthropist, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at Talk:Philanthropist. You may remove the deletion notice, and the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. — Sebastian (talk) 04:01, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi, there seems to be a slightly bizarre situation in that both the Brompton Cemetery [1] and Kensal Green Cemetery [2] websites state he is buried, or at least commemarated in both these places? Gustav von Humpelschmumpel 16:40, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
Vice Admiral Robert Fitzroy's last resting place
Previous edits correctly identified FitzRoy's burial at Beulah Hill, not Brompton as you have written. He has a large fenced-in memorial in All Saint’s churchyard there that is easily visible from the main road. [3] It is in the list of Buildings of Special Archaeological or Historic Interest. [4] I have never heard of the Brompton "claiming" him. Ephebi 23:24, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
Hello. Thanks for adding Roosevelt's birthday and the photo, but your note says 1858, and yet you left the article to say 1853. Is 1858 just a typo? Thanks! -- Ssilvers 17:39, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
People buried in Brompton Cemetery
As a fellow prolific cemetery editor, you might like to check if the proposed deletion of the category is appropriate. Like me, I guess you weren't made aware that a CFD is proposed to delete it. I suspect you will have an opinion on the best way to maintain a list of notable burials. Ephebi 17:51, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:DanielCooperBrompton01.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:DanielCooperBrompton01.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 21:59, 29 June 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 21:59, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
- I had thought that tagging it with "Source self-photographed" would be sufficient. It is a photograph that I have taken of the funerary monument of someone who died in 1902, so surely there cannot be any copyright issues. Or am I mising something here? Edwardx 08:43, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
Rowland Hill
While I was in London in April, I was unable to get to take a photo of the statue of Rowland Hill in King Edward Street. Here is a reference to it. I noticed you recent additions of burials in Kensal Green Cemetery/West London Crematorium - there must be more than a quarter of a million people buried there. I spent a week photographing there in the late 1960s. Maybe, as you live in London, are Wikiaddicted and a keen photographer, you might get a chance to provide a photo for this article. Cheers TIA ww2censor 16:01, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
- I will put that Rowland Hill statue photo on my to-do-list. As a postal historian, you will no doubt have noticed that I put up a photo of William Mulready's fine funerary monument. Once upon a time, I collected stamps and postal history, but now I only collect old passports. I will be making some contributions in that area, but it is probably not of much interest to you. Edwardx 16:35, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
- The William Mulready photo was the one I spotted on my watchlist and followed through to you from there. Thanks for the interest. I wanted to get a Rowland Hill burial photo that is in Westminster Abbey, but, beside closing at 1:00 PA on Saturday (!), apparently photography is not permitted there. Do you know anything about that or can one sneak a photo? Passports, well I have some, but no real interest. Anyway thanks ww2censor 17:03, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Please, upload your free images on Commons, so everybody can use them, not just English Wikipedia! You uploaded more than 100 useful images, but other Wikipedias can't use them. Please upload free images on Commons! Thank you! Dantadd 21:43, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the tip. I have uploaded 8 more images, all on Wikipedia Commons, also under the name Edwardx. I will try to get round to putting all the others I have done so far up on Commons, but please let me know if there are you particularly want to use, and I will do those first. Edwardx 11:13, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, please don't add the passport images to Commons, unless you find evidence they are in the public domain or released by their creator under a GFDL-compatible license. Scanning or taking a picture of copyrighted material doesn't give you the copyright--that's like taping a movie on TV and claiming you own the copyright of the copies. UK passports I am certain are "Crown copyright" and I suspect the other countries' are copyrighted by their respective governments, as well. See Image:Ukpassport-cover.jpg, for example. Fair use rationale for Image:HerbertLeePrattTimeCover.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:HerbertLeePrattTimeCover.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Videmus Omnia Talk 00:48, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

Passport Images
Hi, I note you've uploaded a number of images of passport covers recently, under CC-BY-SA, Unfrotunatly for various reasons images of passport covers may be incompatible with that form of licensing. You are STRONGLY urged to change the license tag to a 'fair use' one if you cannot confirm the copyright status in respect of the designs. In addition some jurisdictions prohibit reproduction of passports of that jurisidiction IRRESPECTIVE of any copyrights, so you would be advised to tread carefully. Orphaned non-free image (Image:Swiss passport 1957.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Swiss passport 1957.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 01:04, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
A Wikipedia username shouldn't be mentioned in the article namespace to avoid self-references, unless, of course, it is relevant to the article like Essjay controversy. Therefore, you shouldn't add your own username in the article for an image caption. Credit for an image is provided on the image description page so there are no GFDL issues there. Do you mind if I remove all references to your username from article space? Or can you help me with it? For reference I'll be using whatlinkshere on your username in the main namespace to find this out. Thanks, Graham87 10:33, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

The newsletter is back! Many things have gone on during the past few months, but many things have not. While the assessment drive helped revitalize the assessment department of the project, many other departments have received no attention. Most notably: peer review and our "workgroups". A day long IRC meeting has been planned for October 13th, with the major focus being which areas of the project are "dead", what should our goals be as a project, and how to "revive" the dead areas of our project. Contribute to the discussion on the the new channel (see below) We decided to deliver this newsletter to all project members this month but only those with their names down here will get it delivered in the future. This is your newsletter and you can be involved in the creation of the next issue. Any and all contributions are welcome. Simply let yourself be known to any of the undersigned or post news on the next issue's talk page
Lastly, a new WikiProject Biography channel has been set up on the freenode network: Our thanks to Phoenix 15 for setting it up.

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Malaysia passport 1968.JPG)
Thanks for uploading Image:Malaysia passport 1968.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 20:58, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Robert Keate, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://livesonline.rcseng.ac.uk/biogs/E000008b.htm. Fair use rationale for Image:Swiss passport 1956.JPG
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Swiss passport 1956.JPG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
Burials at Brompton Cemetery
Hi, you might want to check out some of the biographies that you've been adding to WP. Looking at the list of burials at Brompton Cemetery shows apparently duplicated entries for Harris & Godwin; there may be others. Best regards, Ephebi (talk) 11:09, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Regarding lists of people and sourcing
Hi! You said: "revert to version with list - it being unreferenced is not a valid reason for removal)" Please consider WP:BLP - The policy says "Unsourced or poorly sourced contentious material about living persons — whether the material is negative, positive, or just questionable — should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion, from Wikipedia articles, talk pages, user pages, and project space." In general it is a bad idea to have unsourced information related to living people - of course some people on the list are dead, but even so it is often better to start over from scratch and source it back up. WhisperToMe (talk) 16:45, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
- I am aware of and agree with the WP policy that you cite, but your interpretation of it appears to be mistaken. The key word here is "contentious". In this case, for a list of people who have supposedly lived in this particular location in California, I think it extremely unlikely that any living person is going to be genuinely upset should there be a mistaken claim that they once lived there. This material is not "contentious". Of course, it would be better if even fairly trivial information about living people was properly sourced. So, rather than remove it wholesale, try to find a valid reason for removing individual names. Alternatively, why not contribute constructively and try sourcing things yourself. This file was moved to Commons from English Wikipedia, but some description information may have got lost in the process.
As you are noted as the original uploader, or in the history for the file, it would be appreciated if you could help in reconstructing this information.
Please also consider checking Commons for other media that you may have uploaded locally, but which was subsequently transferred.
Special:Log for uploads can help in this.

Unreferenced BLPs
Hello Edwardx! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 5 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:
- Ian Cognito - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Malvern College
Hi Edwardx/Archive 2006-2010! The Old Malvernians/alumnae section that you contributed to in Malvern College finally got so long that it had to be split off into a separate list page. In doing so, it's been found that for many of those noble people there is no actual proof that they ever went to the school. However, they probably did, and the entries were made in good faith. Nevertheless, the rules require everything in the encyclopedia to be verifiably sourced. It would be great therefore, if you could take a look at the list and help out if you can with providing some references. The people all have their own Wiki articles, but it is no guarantee that the mentions of Malvern College (if any) are correctly cited. Thanks. --Kudpung (talk) 17:01, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
Malvern, Worcestershire
Hi Edwardx! Thanks for your concern over the Malvern, Worcestershire article. You may have noticed that this article has achieved a Good Article rating after a lot of hard work by a dedicated team. I'm just wondering if the edits you made to the list of Notable People section were really necessary. In doing so, you have introduced new errors that have needed to be cleaned up. It would help if you could suggest your ideas on the article's talk page before making edits of this kind to Good Articles - you may even be saving yourself some unnecessary work.--Kudpung (talk) 13:17, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
For your information, the John Evan Thomas page has just been moved to a new title, as above, to differentiate from John Evan Thomas (sculptor) and because it temporarily had a non-standard title.
