[edit]Friends, Becaue this page is not too long, is not in need of splitting and because I did a fucking hell of a lot of research on the list of notable events, i would like to ask Cris to stop deleting my work. I know the list has been moved, but the list is an integral part of an emerging wikipedia page. If you want me to turn it into a narative, I will, over time, write the entiore sordid hidtory of the SFPD, but please stop deleting my work! Hchapot 69.3.234.242 03:42, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
- First, you have to calm down. No need to personal attack me. People got blocked here for such thing. Second, I didn't delete your work. Your work is in another article you created named List of notable events in the history of the San Francisco Police Department. In wikipedia, you don't put the same thing in two different articles. I see your effort in collaborating the list. And I liked it. But I don't see the point in repeating the same thing over again here. Chris! my talk 06:02, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
- I move the link for the notable list up to the history section. So that it is more visible to other readers visiting the page. Chris! my talk 06:06, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
How does one add to the reference list? Hank Chapot 7.08.07
Could someone add the ranks and their insignia?
The link to 1955-56 George Healy leads to someone entirely different..
Infobox & case additions
[edit]I've added an infobox, imported the Department's shoulder patch, and greatly added to the list of famous cases. Hopefully someone with more time on his/her hands will be able to expand that list into something worth reading one of these days. A good source is here: MisterSF.com under "Notorious SF." The SFPD's official history page isn't terribly helpful on specifics. --Dynafow 20:05, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
Trivia section
[edit]There seems to be a nascent edit war heating up over the disappearing-reappearing "Trivia" section, specifically in regards to whether the Dead Kennedys' featuring burning SFPD cruisers on the cover of one of their albums merits inclusion in the SFPD's Wikipedia article. Hank Chapot has kept restoring the Dead Kennedys reference, while SBoyd415 and I have both reverted it. Hank Chapot has made some valid contributions to the article, and I don't want to put him off, but I don't think that particular bit of information belongs on this page (the DKs' page is another matter).
I have expanded the "Baby Blue" blurb, the only other current occupant of the trivia section besides the DKs album-cover thing, and eliminated the trivia section for the time being.Dynaflow 09:06, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
Hank here; I am fully prepared to concede that a trivia section might be a stupid addition to this page and therefore I have not returned the DK reference.
However, I have contributed a load of famous and infamous incidents to the page and i trust my historical knwledge and skills as a researcher are not under question. It must be something in the character of a seventeen year old Mission High schoolboy who got his ass kicked in an encounter with a couple of Mission district undercover cops and a night in juvenile hall, plus being harrassed at critical mass, that makes me an SFPD sceptic. If you have any "good" stories, please, include them on the list.
HC 4.10.07
P.S. to make the short-lived "baby blue" era a seperate heading is equally as stupid as the DK reference. I have reincorporated it in the list about major events So you want a Tilde? 67.101.97.68 00:09, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
Cleanup
[edit]I am currently making major changes to this article to improve it. The reason for this is that the info this article provided before is not very encyclopedic. So if anyone wants to help, please join. Chris 22:47, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
- Fixed some phrasing and grammar and removed the clean up tag, while placing a 'sources needed' template in the History section, which could use a lot of expansion and sourcing. MissMJ 23:48, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
I have been working on the list of famous cases and events for weeks. For you to strip it out without working on it is pretty bad. Please don't delete the work of others unless you have a good reason beyond your own predelictions. When you come oup with a better way to show the information, then okay. Until, please leave my work alone 67.101.40.61 Hank Chapot
sorry, for some reason, when I re-inserted the list and added a reference, the work done recently disappeared. i am not sure why and i can't fix it. My bad. 67.101.40.61 01:32, 21 June 2007 (UTC) Hank Chapot
- It's ok. I fix it. Also most of the things on the list of famous cases and events are unsourced, so please fix that. Chris 02:22, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- If you like to contribute, you should consider joining wikipedia. It's free. Chris 02:22, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- After reading your list again, I see one more problem. Go read WP:Notability, because I feel some of the events on the list are not notable. Like the earthquake in 1906, you didn't explain the involvement of SFPD in that event. So that is not irrelevant to the scope of this article. Things put in this article should only be relevant to SFPD, nothing else. Chris 02:27, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- Your list is too long for this article. You can consider creating an entire new article to list all the events of SFPD. A shortened version can then be put in this article. Chris 02:35, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
I don't get it. If for example, there is a blue clickable link to the preparedness day bombing, why is a citation needed?
Hank chapot, already a member, but not always logged in.
- That blue link only lead readers to that page. It doesn't mean that it doesn't need a citation. As a matter of fact, that bombing page is not even adequately sourced. Chris! my talk 19:46, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
I hope that I'm not stepping on anyone's toes here. I tried to correct just a few of the items I saw. I have zero experience with Wiki, and so may have made a mess of things. I'd be most grateful to anyone who knows what they are doing here, if they could help. I have the history/information, I just don't have Wiki-skills.Johnsfpd (talk) 01:21, 28 September 2012 (UTC)JohnSFPD
- Hey, no problem at all. We were all new editors at one point. For general help on Wikipedia and for some good rules of thumb, visit WP:PILLARS or WP:HELPDESK. As for these specific actions, be careful not to violate Wikipedia's policy on original research which essentially states that all additions must come from a source rather than one's personal knowledge. Fair use rationale for Image:SFPD Patch.gif
[edit]Image:SFPD Patch.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

citation needed
[edit]I added a citation needed tag to the airport bureau. I am looking for the reference which proves that the SF Airport Police merged with the SFPD. Wikipedia someones has wrong information, sometimes this is because a few administrators are bullies and can tick off genuine users and a few of these ticked off people retaliate by changing information. I am trying to find out if this fact is true because I need to contact the airport police and google linked to this article.
Wikipedia can have wrong information so please add references. WKPD1 (talk) 18:58, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
How much and how many?
[edit]This is is a good article – thanks to those involved. I came to this article curious about the size of SFPD in relation to other cities. Specifically, how many officers are there and what's the budget? Compared to other cities where I've lived, it seems like this city has an unusually intensive need for police. Are there any breakdowns about how much crime exists here and what we spend on our police force compared to other cities? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Andy54321 (talk • contribs) 19:56, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
02/14/11 - I am not sure how to get this message to whomever, but I was editing the SFPD page to reflect who is the Interim Chief and that Gascon resigned last month and is the San Francisco District Attorney.
Anyway, I messed up the formatting on the listing of chiefs. That table got skewed. Can someone please correct it. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Heartinsanfrancisco (talk • contribs) 06:31, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
Greg Suhr ?
[edit]Been chief for more than a week.

I seriously doubt the police are riding around on dirt bikes, I don't know for sure but they're probably dual sport motorcycles. 99.23.163.68 (talk) 06:59, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
"SFPD Prison Bus"
[edit]Johnsfpd (talk) 00:11, 28 September 2012 (UTC)JohnSFPD
There is no "SFPD Prison Bus". It be one of several former San Francisco Municipal buses converted (re-painted) and used to transport large numbers of officers for demonstrations, etc..

Uniform section illogicality
[edit]Under the uniform section, it states: “It was not until 1969 that the patch, incorporating the San Francisco crest of arms, phoenix and city motto was added to the uniform in 1970, adorning both sleeves.”
This very clearly makes no sense, since something distinct can’t happen in both 1969 and 1970. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1000:B161:A7F:8CDE:5E00:A711:DF2B (talk) 12:47, 23 March 2022 (UTC)
