Opine

An avid Wikipedia reader recently found herself opining, "How many times can 'opine' and its variantions be used in one article?" It was a mystery because it appeared in almost every segment without fail. Over 13 times in total were people found to be opining certain information regarding this article. "Please. Someone amend this overage," she opined vehemently. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.239.245.125 (talk) 07:55, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Soprano?

Question: how can a guy (Kurt Hummel) be a Soprano???? Soprano is for women only... he is a contra-tenor or something, but he cannot be a soprano, it's just impossible... ¬¬ 201.230.201.100 (talk) 21:35, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

Stephen Tobolowsky

"Stephen Tobolowsky as Sandy Ryerson,"

Tobolowsky's character has the same last name as Ned Ryerson — his character in Groundhog Day. Coincidence or deliberate choice?
—WWoods (talk) 03:57, 4 October 2009 (UTC)

  • It should have a source, but the trivia argument doesn't apply. Firstly, the article you linked is about trivia sections. Secondly, the character's last name is a notable trait of the character, and the origin of that name is worth mentioning (again, if properly sourced).Danthe4th (talk) 17:57, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
He actually says here [1] that the last name was a coincidence. I haven't added it to the article because a. it's a fan-site, even if it is from a direct interview and b. stating that his name wasn't inspired by his Groundhog Day character doesn't, imo, seem particularly noteworthy. Individual Wiki Entries

Isn't it time for the regular cast to have their own wikipedia entries already? I'm new at this and starting, but I'll do it if no one will. Miscrofreak (talk) 15:12, 9 October 2009 (UTC)

I don't think that any of the characters are independently notable enough to warrant their own articles under the general notability guidelines yet. They can all be summed up adequately in a single paragraph as part of a combined article at the moment - there's not really enough scope for individual articles that aren't just padded out with plot details. Frickative 15:21, 9 October 2009 (UTC)

Ok. Duly noted. I'll be looking forward to the characters here being notable enough. Miscrofreak (talk) 09:11, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

Santana, Brittany, Mike, and Matt don't have sections in the list of characters yet :( —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.87.120.118 (talk) 06:28, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

They're all mentioned in the 'Recurring Characters' section :) There isn't much information on them (or any, really, in the case of Matt and Mike), so if you know of any interviews or articles with information on them, please add them. Supposedly Naya Rivera is being bumped up to a main cast member in the back nine, so hopefully there'll be more to say about Santana at least. Frickative 16:54, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

Revisiting this topic in general, does anyone think that it might be appropriate to spin some of these entries out into individual articles now? Obviously many of them are still only a few paragraphs long and fine as they are, but others are far more detailed and might be better suited listed here in summary style. Terri, for instance, has four paragraphs of critical commentary alone, and three on character development. I did start working on individual articles for Terri and Sue in my sandbox a while ago: [2] [3] but went back to working on the episode articles before finishing them. I think that possibly Will and Rachel could demonstrate sufficient notability for spin-out articles also, but ideally I'd like to hear input from others before making any changes :) Frickative 19:13, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I agree. I think that it is time for at least Sue, Will, Rachel and Emma to have there own articles. Their sections are getting extremely long. I don't think I'm the right man for the job but I definitely think something needs to be done. And also maybe the Characters of Glee Page should only include short summaries for the characters who have had there own article made (Terri). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tikopowii (talkcontribs) 23:06, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the input :) I did try to re-write the section on Terri in summary style after starting an independent article on her at the weekend, but it is still definitely erring on the long side. At three paragraphs currently, it's an improvement on the eight it was before, but it could probably stand to be trimmed down some more. I'm going to work on starting independent articles for at least the first six characters listed on the page, but it might take me a few days to get round to doing them all. Frickative 10:09, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
Alright! Sounds like the gears are in motion. Yeah, hopefully this page will become short explanations of the characters role and will link to an in depth summary. I can help out once the pages are created so I'll just be standin by. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tikopowii (talkcontribs) 06:28, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

I think Puck and Kurt should have their own pages because they actually have continuing story lines (Puck more than Kurt, but still). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.164.93.11 (talk) 23:17, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

Sorry but Finn should absolutely, 100% have his own page —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.182.22.10 (talk) 05:26, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

Do bear in mind, though, that the creation of articles should be based on the availability of reliable sources and how well characters meet the general notability guidelines, rather than the number of storylines they've had. Kurt is probably fine for an individual article because there are a number of sources discussing his coming out storyline, but there's actually surprisingly little notable critical commentary on Puck and Finn. It would require someone willing to put a few hours work into finding enough sources to justify it. I'm not necessarily opposed, though - I think the only main characters it would be really tough to spin out well at the moment are Mercedes, Artie and Tina. Frickative 06:44, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
I have to agree here. Being a main character isn't the criterion for a separate page. While it would be nice for Finn to have a page, there just isn't enough coverage of him in notable sources to create a decent page. --Logical Fuzz (talk) 13:06, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

Cheyenne Jackson WILL NOT appear in Glee (at least not this season)

In an interview on NY1 news program "On Stage," Matthew Morrison stated that, although Cheyenne Jackson was originally planned to guest star in one episode this season, due to scheduling conflicts he was replaced. I do not recall the exact date of the On Stage episde in which this interview aired, but I believe it was mid-September 2009. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.64.192.2 (talk) 16:39, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

Merger vs. Spin-off characters?

I've noticed that someone has placed a Merge tag on the article for possible merger with List of Glee cast members. Above, Frickative is mentioning spinning-off some of the characters to individual pages. I'm new here so I surely don't have an answer, but I figured I'd create a section on the talk page for the discussion (since the merge tag leads here, but there wasn't one). It seems to be that these are somewhat contradictory. Comments? --Logical Fuzz (talk) 20:54, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

OK, a little more research shows that Pdcook had originally PROD-ed List of Glee cast members, then changed it into merge. I guess the best thing to do would be to include that info in any spin-offs. --Logical Fuzz (talk) 21:02, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

I started the 'List of cast members' article after seeing a few others that had made it to WP:FL, but Pdcook is right, there's not really any content there that's not duplicated in a different format here. I don't think there's really anything there to merge, but I wouldn't be opposed to just redirecting the list to this article. That way it can still be easily retrieved in future should there be any impetus to restore it. Frickative 21:19, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
I agree that there really isn't much to merge, esp. since this page is so comprehensive. I noticed that Pdcook hasn't contributed to this page, so I would go along with anything you (and others here) decide to do. I'm still fuzzy on when characters are notable enough for a separate page. :) --Logical Fuzz (talk) 21:48, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

semi protection?

Given the high volume of IP vandalism (at least to me it is a high volume), is it possible to get this article semi-protected? While there are some lasting contributions by the IP users, all you have to do is look at the history of the article and see how many edits have to be reversed. Any admins following this article that would be willing to take the nessesary actions. Thanks. --Jordan 1972 (talk) 01:30, 6 April 2010 (UTC)

I suggest asking at WP:RPP. CTJF83 chat 01:40, 6 April 2010 (UTC)
