Upcoming engagements

I have removed this inappropriate addition to the article:

Upcoming engagements include in 1914 [the editor obviously meant 2014] her role debuts as Adelaide in Arabella by Richard Stauss, conducted by Christian Thielemann at the Semperoper, and as Leokadja Begbick in Kurt Weill's Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. At the Bayerische Staatsoper, she will sing Herodias in Salome, and Klytämnestra, both in Elektra and in the premiere of Jörg Widmann's Babylon.

When/if these performances have taken place, they can be re-added. This is an encyclopedia article—not a news-letter or an alternative web site for singers. A search reveals that the premiere of Babylon has already taken place (October 2013). Coverage here in the Süddeutsche Zeitung. This can certainly be added to the article. That's why these "upcoming" performance sections are worse than useless and don't belong in articles. They are very misleading. Relative time constructs like "upcoming", "now", "currently", etc. should never be used, in addition to the inappropriateness of writing an encyclopedia article as if it were the subject's web page. I'm not sure what you are trying to say, Gerda. It is not really necessary to say she is Munich now. Readers will find that out by clicking on her bio there or on her schedule at Operabase which can be added as an external link. By the way here's a great article in Die Zeit from 1992, which fills in a lot of biographical details and explicitly talks about her switch from mezzo to soprano.   • In 2019 she portrayed Herodias at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, with character. - what does "with character" mean? Is it a review? Is it an incomplete sentence?
  • I question the use of "Character roles" as a header- wasn't she doing many character roles during her soprano years?
  • Move the sentence under "Teaching" intro "Personal life", then combine the sentences into a single paragraph.

2c. it contains no original research. In 1989 she recorded Schreker's Der Schatzgräber, possibly the first recording of the opera... - The source does not support that it was "possibly the first recording"- if anything, it denies this claim

Article is well-cited and verifiable- no OR visible.

2d. it contains no copyright violations or plagiarism. Earwig shows no violations; high scores are due to quotes or names.
3. Broad in its coverage:
3a. it addresses the main aspects of the topic. Almost all of the content under "Mezzo-soprano" and "Soprano" is just listing roles and years. Is there no information about her life during these years?

Article addresses her life, career, and recordings she sang in- all good here.

3b. it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style). Stays focused throughout.
4. Neutral: it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each. No bias visible.
5. Stable: it does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute. No edit warring.

  • Character role: I gave it a link but it may not be perfect. In opera - as I understand it - it means in a rather narrow definition roles where acting is more important than singing.
  • Teaching is not personal life. Perhaps I can find students.
  • I like headers short.

  • Mahagonny: well, OperaNews isn't The New York Times, and Mr. Goldmann with no full first name not the authority that Allan Kozinn has. It was the only review of that performance I could find, and I like it. It's the one time I saw her on stage, DYK? The other time I heard her live was in the Christmas Oratorio, with a boys choir, - the only woman as her soprano colleague had fallen sick, and was replaced by three boys, - unforgettable. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:44, 25 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • About the recording: the review of a new recording says "As far as I know, the only previous recording is the 1989 Hamburg one available on Capriccio, conducted by Gerd Albrecht with Josef Protschka and Gabriele Schnaut leading a strong cast." - That tells me that she was in the first recording, no? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:23, 25 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The image was kindly added by Storye book. It's not known when it was taken, the typical promotional shot for a singer. Storye book, could you perhaps provide a caption, and alternate text? I have added a caption for the image. As I said in the edit summary, you are welcome to adjust the likely date (or remove it), because it is guesswork. I have searched but cannot find more information about her private life. I am only able to search UK sources, and UK sources are very parochial, I am afraid.
