Democratic Party
[edit]I am concerned that the article refers to the Democratic Party of the subject's political era as the predecessor to today's Republican party. 2605:A601:AB04:2700:50A7:5E4D:2991:B726 (talk) 22:24, 28 November 2021 (UTC)
Common name
[edit]Regarding the move of this page, Earle B. Mayfield (76%), Earle Mayfield (17%), and E. B. Mayfield (6%) are the only iterations of Mayfield's name that constitute over 5% of references to him on newspapers.com. Star Garnet (talk) 23:12, 14 June 2023 (UTC)
Potential inaccuracies in KKK Association
[edit]Does anyone have the actual text of the sources that are being cited to support the claim that the KKK helped Mayfield get elected to the Texas Senate in 1907? Because according to most accepted history there WAS no KKK in 1907-1913 when he served in the Texas Senate, the first KKK had died out by the end of Reconstruction, and the second KKK would not be founded until 1915. 2600:1700:12C8:10:2C40:CEED:8CD5:FD31 (talk) 18:01, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
- I looked at the Newspapers.com article from 1906 that the passage on this cites. But what happened is that a page from the August 2, 1922, issue of the Bryan-College Station Eagle got bundled up together with a 1906 issue. The August 2, 1922, issue is talking about his US Senate race against Ferguson, and makes references to the Second Klan's leader in Atlanta (an implicit reference to the founding of the second Klan there by Simmons). So you are absolutely right: there's not evidence that the "second Klan" was involved in his state senate election. I'm going to make an edit to the page to reflect this.
