Reviews
[edit]This album was never well received because typically for Bill Evans and Claus Ogerman, they were ahead of their time. It's always easy for columnists such as Yanow to be dismissive if they don't like something. Fortunately there are more positive reviews around.
This album wasn't really 3rd Stream such as other collaborations Evans participated in (and he was first choice keyboards for many composers). Even today attempting to introduce more sophisticated levels of musical understanding/ appreciation to a culture awash wish simplistic pop music, is just difficult.
This is one of my favourite Evans albums, maybe because it was the first time I ever heard Evans at the piano. The complex arrangements of piano combined with Ogermans lush orchestrations could easily fool people into thinking this was just 'elevator music'. A mix of original compositions and classical compositions the session was a beautiful one. Evans was a master at every genre and this is no exception. I would suggest Scott Yanow concentrate on writing - some of his work is quite passable!
There - got that off my chest - probably no-one else cares. Patrick --Jppigott (talk) 01:35, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
- No worries. But it isn't allowed to copy text like from Amazon. You need to write it in your own words or quote a source or something on that order. Maybe find a positive review that can be quoted and referenced properly. I'll look around for one too. Yes, critics can be tough and we can disagree with them. Best to you. - Great news, Patrick. I found a nice one at AllAboutJazz. I'll post it. Airproofing (talk) 03:38, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
