Summary

Description
English: Fes Castle Court. The large, originally rectangular, patio courtyard created by Moulay Rashid around 1670, according to Henri Bressolette ("Fès-Jdid de sa fondation en 1276 au milieu du XXe siècle", Hespéris-Tamuda 1983) and Mohamed Métalsi ("Fès: la ville essentielle", p. 294). In satellite imagery it is distinctly visible as sticking out into Fes el-Jdid from the eastern side of the palace grounds. As seen here, a large rectangular water basin occupies its middle and leads towards a veranda or arched pavilion (visible in the distance) with white marble columns with graceful capitals, described by the author's accompanying text to this picture.
