Cochrane-Wikipedia Project: Getting Started
Use Cochrane Reviews to improve the
quality of Wikipedia's health related articles
List of project ideas:
1. Improve Wikipedia articles using our list of Cochrane Reviews not yet considered for Wikipedia. Wikipedia:WikiProject Medicine/Cochrane/Cochrane Review List
2. Ensure Cochrane evidence on Wikipedia is up to date and that existing content on Wikipedia is accurate
- Cochrane Update Project page (a great place to start for new editors)
- Coming soon- a list of Cochrane Reviews in your CRG that are already used as references in Wikipedia articles (I can generate this list on request, but there is a small backlog here)
3. Choose a list of Wikipedia articles in your field and assign them to participants. Cochrane evidence and other evidence that meets Wikipedia's Guideline for Reliable Sources (Medicine) can be used to improve the article, and editors can work through Wikipedia's Manual of Style for medical articles.
- Consider publishing the polished Wikipedia articles in the peer reviewed open access journal WikiJournal of Medicine (Note: It is free to publish in this journal)
Example of General Workflow: Adding Cochrane Evidence to Wikipedia
Step 1:
Choose a Cochrane Review that has not yet been added to Wikipedia in your area of expertise
Step 2:
Determine a potential Wikipedia article where the conclusions of the Cochrane Review may help improve the article.
Step 3:
Open the potential Wikipedia article and find a place for these conclusions (verify that the evidence is not already in the article).
Step 4:
Paraphrase (re-word) the relevant evidence into the Wikipedia article.
Step 5:
Add the citation using the PMID or DOI.
- If you are not sure that your edit is appropriate, please post your suggestions on the "talk page" of your Wikipedia article and wait for feedback from the community first before editing directly.
- Completing this task:
- After you add a review to an article, add {{done}} to put a check ( Done) mark before the PMID on the project page beside the article name
- If you are working on an edit or waiting for community feedback, add {{Inprogress}} In progress before the PMID
- If you find that the review is already used in Wikipedia, please add a {{done}} or put
a line throughthe suggested review. This list is not 100% perfect as Wikipedia is being updated regularly. - If you feel that there is no obvious "home" in Wikipedia for this information, please add the template: {{N/A icon}} before the PMID on this page.
- Please feel free to chose any Cochrane Review from this list (this task does not have to be performed in order).
- Please contact User:JenOttawa email: jdawson (at) cochrane.org if you have any questions or suggestions.
