Revision as of 20:10, 30 June 2008
- This page lists individual editors subject to editing restrictions. General sanctions that apply to all editors working in particular areas are listed at Wikipedia:General sanctions. See also Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Admin enforcement requested.
The Arbitration Committee may impose a number of different editing restrictions on users engaged in inappropriate behavior.
When the Committee believes that a restriction is no longer necessary, it may revoke it by passing a "motion in a prior case".
Types of restrictions
The following is a list of the most common types of restrictions. More unique restrictions which have been imposed in unusual circumstances are not listed.
- Account restriction
- The user is limited to editing with a single account.
- Civility restriction
- The user may be blocked if they make any edits which are judged by an administrator to be uncivil, personal attacks, or assumptions of bad faith.
- Probation (Supervised editing)
- Generally, editors on probation may be banned from pages they edit disruptively, either for a set period of time or indefinitely, by action of an uninvolved administrator. (Although the wording of probation remedies sometimes varies, so be sure to check the specific case.) Probation is used as an alternative to an outright topic ban in cases where the editor shows some promise of learning better behavior.
- Revert limitation
- The user is limited to one revert per page per week (excepting obvious vandalism), and is required to discuss any content reversions on the page's talk page. They may be blocked if they exceed this limit or fail to discuss a content reversion.
- Topic ban
- The user is prohibited from editing any page related to a particular topic, and may be blocked if they do so.
Enforcement
Editors who violate Arbitration-imposed restrictions may be blocked or otherwise sanctioned as described in the relevant Arbitration case. It is always best for enforcement actions to be taken by uninvolved administrators. Generally, blocks for violating civility restriction, revert limitation, or topic bans start at 24 hours per violation, but may escalate after multiple violations. All blocks and topic bans should be logged at the relevant Arbitration case page. Administrators who plan on enforcing Arbitration restrictions should check the case page for any case-specific enforcement language. For more information see Arbitration enforcement.
