Fishy username

Hi,

This username looks a bit fishy. Do you reckon this is WP:999-worthy? Adam9007 (talk) 01:34, 1 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Adam9007! Sorry for the delay getting back to you - did you get your question answered? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:15, 18 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not actually sure . It may not necessarily be suicidal ideation, but that doesn't mean it cannot be. Adam9007 (talk) 03:28, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Adam9007 - I say report it. If you even question whether or not something is a threat of harm, we should report it. We're not trained or certified to make the determination as to whether or not a threat is real or valid; we should report all instances and let the emergency team handle it. That being said, I don't see it like a direct and unambiguous threat, but that is irrelevant. It should be reported; it's the right thing to do. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:41, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Is it still worth it, given that it was nearly 3 weeks ago? Adam9007 (talk) 03:59, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Why not? I'd do it. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:19, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. It's way past my bedtime here anyway : nearly 5:30 in the morning (under normal circumstances, I'd be asleep and unaware of this conversation, so wouldn't be able to do anything). Adam9007 (talk) 04:23, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Microextrusion

Dear Oswah, I was the first to write about Microextrusion on wikipedia, but after sometime, everythin I wrote has been cancelled redirecting on metal the target of the technology. The term Microextrusion is used by Gimac sinc early '80s for describing a process able to process polymer with no degradation of microstructural properties. What do you suggest to do...? Actually the page doesn't have anymore the images that I put even if they were fully authorised and some literature references has been cancelled even if globally recognised... Looking fwd to hear back from you. 5.170.19.7 (talk) 20:19, 1 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! You could try contacting the editors who made the changes that concern you. Additionally, you should start a discussion on the article's talk page regarding your concerns. Make sure to let those who are directly involved know about the discussion so that they can participate. This is part of proper dispute resolution; definitely make sure to read up on it and let me know if you have any questions. Good luck, and happy editing! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:03, 18 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Just got a message about my "editing" of Melbourne Chess Club.

Sorry I have no idea how I did this as I was on a holiday during this period of time wikipedia only just alerted me of this however so is there any way I can restore my changes? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.101.188.6 (talkcontribs)

Hi there! I'm a bit confused, because you first state that you how no idea how you did this, but are then asking about how you can restore your changes. The page I was referring to was Talk:Melbourne Chess Club, which was deleted due to being a talk page of a non-existent page. The article itself (Melbourne Chess Club) was deleted as a result of this discussion at Wikipedia's articles for deletion process. I highly recommend that you read and understand this process, as it will answer your questions and explain the process, what editors look for when discussing the deletion of an article, as well as how to proceed from here after a decision is made to delete the article. If you have questions about it, let me know. Happy editing! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:11, 18 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sockpuppet case against 118 alex

Hi Oshwah A sockpuppet investigation has been opened against 118 alex again. The crucial evidence lies in the [[1]] you deleted at 05:22 today. This is to inform you that you may need to testify that the accounts involved in this present case threatened to sockpuppet and vandalise Wikipedia after successfully hacking into the 2 locked accounts. The link is at [[2]]. Thanks, 118.200.160.208 (talk) 09:27, 4 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! Thanks for the heads up! It looks like the SPI is now closed; let me know if I can do anything else to aid the process. Best -- ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:12, 18 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Request

Can you please semi-protect the article Deportation of the Crimean Tatars for unregistered users? An anonymous IP keeps inserting a lot of undue weight in the article. If he has questions, he can always try to reach consensus on the talk page before resorting to disruptive editing.--Seiya (talk) 16:58, 4 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Seiya, and thank you for leaving a message for me here. I apologize for the late response; I've been busy lately and am getting caught up on messages. It looks like the disruption has stopped, so I'm going to hold off on protecting the article for now. However, if this changes and disruption continues and protection is needed, let me know and I'll take a look. Thanks again :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:14, 18 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Your testimony is needed.

Information icon There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Your testimony is crucial in proving that the 2 sockpuppets involved in the [[3]] threatened to hack their Wikipedia accounts to vandalise Wikipedia via an account that you blocked and deleted yesterday at 05:22(UTC). Please provide the crucial evidence in this case. Your evidence is appreciated. 103.17.198.51 (talk) 05:28, 5 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

pronounciation

Hello. Can you please explain to me in short how can I add a pronounciation to a certain term (as a sound recording)? Betty White page

Hi,

Betty White & Allen Ludden were never divorced. They were married in 1963 and remained married until his death in 1981. Her page says they divorced in 1981.

Thanks,

SandyBearsy — Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.77.165.6 (talk) 23:07, 8 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

No. Betty White (in the infobox) says "(m. 1963; d. 1981)" which means they were separated by Ludden's death. Note the other entries say "Div" indicating divorce. The article (further down) says as much. Chris Troutman (talk) 23:22, 8 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It is a bit ambiguous. I've gotten them mixed up before too. - BilCat (talk) 00:11, 9 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This may, alas, have been a bit premature. Leastways, resolving wholeheartedly to mend one's ways at ANI doesn't seem entirely consistent to me with telling the reporting user they "lost" at ANI, nor threatening to bash them with one's pet admin (which of course you are not, but GeoJoe seems to labour under the impression you are). Pinkbeast (talk) 14:30, 10 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Oshwah,
I came in here to talk to you about this very thing. It seems someone beat me to it. Could you please talk to GeoJoe1000 about this? I think you're the only person he will listen to. The ANI has been closed, with the admin protecting the article in question because he felt the alternative was to block both GeoJoe1000 and myself. But I disagree with that, since it was clear that GeoJoe1000 was edit-warring. I'm afraid that the message he will take from this is that he can talk his way out of trouble, this time by claiming that he was the victim of a personal attack; that the ANI was me trying to get back at him for last time. To be honest, I never believed that he accepted responsibility last time, but rather that it was all for show because he knew he did the wrong thing. This time around, he didn't even acknowledge any wrongdoing and instead tried to distract the admins by crying foul. I'm quite happy to work with him (despite his claims to the contrary), but he needs to lose the arrogant, aggressive attitude first—not as a condition of working with me, but so that he can work with anyone—his edit history reveals multiple instances of his coming into conflict with other editors, and his insistence that other editors should "work with him" (I have noticed he has never said "I'll work with you") amounts to those other editors doing what he wants them to.
Like I said, I'm concerned that if his attitude isn't addressed, it's only going to lead to more conflict, and that the message he will take from this episode is that he can talk his way out of trouble. After all, when I told him that he was close to violating 3RR, he responded with "your threat is noted" and went ahead with breaking 3RR anyway. Prisonermonkeys (talk) 01:06, 11 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Prisonermonkeys! I apologize for the delay responding to your messages here. I've been busy both on Wikipedia and with real-life lately, and I'm just getting all caught up with messages. Did you still need assistance with this issue? Or has this been resolved? Let me know. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:30, 18 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Oshwah,
I wouldn't say it's been resolved. We've entered a state of detente. Things have quietened down since the page was stabilised, but I get the distinct impression that he holds grudges and that his problem with me will flare up in some other form in future. I think the message he left on Spintendo's talk page tells you everything you need to know about him. Prisonermonkeys (talk) 00:02, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Jenny Lind Tower..

My post was simply the truth, neutral or otherwise...It takes a lot of effort to find this strange tower. Then it takes more effort to reach it. When you get there, you are almost certain to be disappointed as it's an empty shell. Hi there! I saw that you had made two edits to the article. Kalki Birth

Remove your lock on Kalki (Birth). This is not your personal website.

Administrators protect pages and images to prevent vandalism and assist in resolving content disputes, for example. The key principle to remember here is that Wikipedia is the encyclopedia that "anyone can edit". Protecting pages defeats that goal and so page protection should be avoided when possible and kept as short as possible. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikicontrols (talkcontribs) 16:24, 13 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Oshwah is preventing further disruptive editing that has occurred on that article, and as an administrator they have every right to do so. "ANyone can edit" does not mean "anyone can edit in any manner they wish". 331dot (talk) 16:28, 13 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Wikicontrols,That first sentence, How disgustingly rude, almost threatning. There are proper civilised manners to speak so watch your tone. Remember, Everyone is a human being here. Regarding the second paragraph, True, However administrators have the right to decide and determine if the "edits" were made with good faith or by vandals just blalantly spreading misinformation. Anyone can edit doesn't mean they have the right to do so. It's quite a privilege as it is but sadly, many seem to manipulate the freedom given to fulfill their own agendas by changing and modifying content. Release Date for Hercules: Zero to Hero 1999 Film

My reason for editing the release date for this film is that it was inaccurate. The accurate release date for this film was August 17, 1999. A preview for the film was shown in 1999 VHS releases of Disney films such as "Alice in Wonderland", "Robin Hood", and "The Great Mouse Detective". It was released the same day as the Beauty and the Beast film, "Tales of Friendship" which was August 17, 1999. Please understand my reason for the editing of this film release date. Hi Oshwah

You made an error. I made the correction because there are already citations at the beginning of the Marc Anthony article. If you check the citations right after his year of birth, all of the citations including Biography.com clearly state a birth date of September 16, 1968 not 1964.

If you could revert your change, it would make the the birth date correct.

Invitation to Admin confidence survey

Hello,

Beginning in September 2017, the Wikimedia Foundation Anti-harassment tool team will be conducting a survey to gauge how well tools, training, and information exists to assist English Wikipedia administrators in recognizing and mitigating things like sockpuppetry, vandalism, and harassment.

The survey should only take 5 minutes, and your individual response will not be made public. This survey will be integral for our team to determine how to better support administrators.

To take the survey sign up here and we will send you a link to the form.

We really appreciate your input!

Please let us know if you wish to opt-out of all massmessage mailings from the Anti-harassment tools team.

FYI about Antifa (United States) protection

Oshwah, I blocked the edit warrior at the article 13 minutes before you protected it, see [5]. I'm consequently not sure the protection serves any purpose now, but I will certainly let you be the judge of that. I'm just going to bed, living as I do in an exotic timezone, so I won't see any reply for some hours. Please just do as you think best, up to and including removing my block. Bishonen | talk 23:53, 14 September 2017 (UTC).[reply]

Bishonen - Okay, I'll take another look. Thanks for letting me know, and have a great rest of your night :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:54, 14 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I still think that it does, IMO. If you look at the edit history of the page (September 11th and September 12th), you'll see what looks to be a content dispute between a group of editors that go back and fourth. I'll keep this discussion open so that others can weigh in. If others feel that this protection should be lifted, please add to this discussion so that I can weigh all of the input and make sure that I'm doing the right thing. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:57, 14 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like others are starting to agree that full protection isn't needed, so I have lowered it to semi-protection :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:04, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please reconsider PP for Antifa (United States)

Hi Oshwah. I'm asking you to please reconsider the page protection for Antifa (United States). Per this AN3 thread, only one (now blocked) user was edit warring on this page, against broad consensus, and they appear to have used RFPP as a bludgeon to get their way. Note that the report you answered referred to "Persistent BLP violations", which is clearly not the case.

This article needs a lot of work, and it would be a shame to lock it down from collaborative editing for 5 days. I will agree that if edit warring continues after the block, then PP should be reinstated, but at this moment it seems preemptive. AlexEng(TALK) 23:58, 14 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

AlexEng - Bishonen also thought that the full protection was no longer necessary due to the block placed on the user involved. Since you're uninvolved and feel it should be lifted, I'm going to do so before others feel that they have to express their opinions and mount up. There will be no red tape here! ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:01, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The Penguins of Madagascar

I'm facing a dilemma at The Penguins of Madagascar. I rather listen to registered users, not the unregistered ones. What do you suggest I do? — FilmandTVFan28 (talk) 04:21, 16 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I made a constructive edit with edit summary and all, and reverts it immediately, like he never read it, and cries vandalism even though it wasn't. Also, he has no right to choose which editors to listen to, he has to listen for everyone, regardless of status. 2600:1004:B02E:D4C6:E09C:69D7:47F6:D057 (talk) 05:07, 16 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
FilmandTVFan28 - All editors involved in a dispute have an equal voice, and so long as they do not edit war or break 3RR, and they cooperate and follow Wikipedia's dispute resolution process and discuss the matter civilly - they should be treated with the same level of respect and given the opportunity to speak and be heard. The fact that you have an account or choose to edit without one is irrelevant. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:16, 16 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) I should have mentioned that treating everybody equally also applies to the enforcement of Wikipedia's policies. All editors involved in this dispute will be treated exactly the same - you will be given the equal respect and opportunity to participate and discuss the dispute at-hand as anybody else. But I will also treat all editors the same when it comes to the violation of policies and the use of administrator tools to enforce them. If edit warring or disruption continues on the article, all users who are directly found to be doing so will be blocked. Discuss this dispute peacefully and follow the dispute resolution policy and work together to resolve this :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:28, 16 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

F1 2018

Hi Oshwah,

Could you please take a loot at 2018 FIA Formula One World Championship? I know things have gotten out of control and that everyone involved is equally responsible for the whole sorry mess. But now we have some new information, it's time to request some edits.

Before we do that, I have proposed that the editors involved wait 24 hours before submitting that request. My reasons are two-fold: 1) it's a complex arrangement between all parties involved, and given the scale of the disagreement, I think it's important that all editors agree on the way forward; and 2) it's a show of good faith so that admins can see that the editors involved can actually work together. I think this is quite reasonable, and has offered some previously-uninvolved editors like Joseph2302 the chance to comment on the content.

However, ever since then, GeoJoe10000 and Wikipediaeditperson have repeatedly accused me of deliberately trying to prolong the protection period so that the article is intentionally incorrect. This could not be further from the truth, and some of their comments suggest that they do not even understand why I was opposed to the edits in the first place. Any time I try to do something constructive, they immediately step in and accuse me of deliberate wrongdoing. Prisonermonkeys (talk) 04:33, 16 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Prisonermonkeys - If everyone involved agrees that the full protection should be removed, and they all ping me and say so - I'll lower it without question :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:11, 16 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
We're pretty much ready to go. My more immediate concern is that even if the content dispute is resolved, there are some editors who are more interested in settling scores than doing anything constructive. They're treating the talk page as a battleground to the point where they have lost sight of what the original issue was. The initial dispute was over the use of an article that relied on an anonymous source without providing anything to substantiate it, but some have abandoned that and are trying to settle scores. My concern is what happens if the issue isn't resolved when the protection is lifted. Prisonermonkeys (talk) 06:36, 16 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I would leave the protection in place until it's scheduled to end. It's not indefinite. That way the article get's some much needed stability. The two major edits which need to take place can be executed through edit requests. One is already live now and can be executed as no-one objects. The second should follow once we settle on the wording.Tvx1 15:37, 16 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Oshwah,
As you are the admin who protected the article, could you please lift the protection on 2018 FIA Formula One World Championship? The content dispute has been resolved, appropriate changes made to the article through edit requests and everything has stabilised. There is some ongoing discussion about the precise wording on the talk page, but it can be resolved through editconsensus. There are also some extensive changes proposed for the article, but these have been discussed at length both on the talk page and at the Formula 1 WikiProject (it's a big section, but the most relevant stuff is at the bottom). You will also note that most of the key players from last week's flare-up have taken part in these discussions, demonstrating that we can work together (and the most disruptive editor has largely been neutralised). Prisonermonkeys (talk) 02:49, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Prisonermonkeys -  Done. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:06, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Vandalism by user RadhikaSharma444

Hey man,

I just came here directly from the "Saraswati" wiki page to report a user named "RadhikaSharma444". That user undid my revert but sadly that's not the end of it. The same user is going over many wiki articles and is making mere will edits and undoing cited edits. See their contribution page. No reason is provided. Also, The user has been fairly warned on their talk page but hasn't paid heed or even acknowledged it.

Hoping you could drop by take a look at it. Thanks mate.ShotgunMavericks (talk) 11:37, 16 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

User talk:78.110.175.49

Thanks for your help at User talk:78.110.175.49. This is the second time he has tried to delete Locomotives of the Stockton and Darlington Railway. Last time he was User talk:78.110.175.34 so he seems to be sockpuppeting himself. I think he may be somebody who has a grudge against me. OTRS comment

At OS nomination you said I do not have advanced permissions on other projects, and I currently do not have OTRS permissions (but that certainly can change). Emphasis added.

That certainly can. While it makes sense to concentrate on the OS nomination at the moment, we do have a stubborn backlog at OTRS, so I hope that when the dust settles, you would consider throwing your hat in the OTRS ring.--S Philbrick(Talk) 14:01, 18 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sphilbrick - Sounds like I should consider doing so. Thanks for the encouragement, Sphilbrick :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:11, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Need help with reviewing a person's edit

Hey, could you do me a big favor and review someone's edit to the article, DuckTales? The individual in question is an editor called Spshu.

The reason I ask for your assistance is on a number of factors in regards to the edits they made to this article that I find questionable, considering the volume they have added in and what areas they changed. For example, they stated that they consider the small text used in the article's infobox to be extraneous in terms of formatting, but I don't agree to that at all. They also comment that the cartoon is the first Disney cartoon to be syndicated, but they have done nothing to prove this to be the case in terms of citations, and I can't say if this can be considered true or not. I stated how I felt their edits were questionable and that they should take this to the article's talk page to discuss what they wanted to do, but they just reverted it all, and claimed my reversion was unconstructive, which I find a bit hurtful when all I did was raise a concern over what was changed. Could you take a look at this, before they decide to revert again (after I reverted their reversion, requesting once more that they take the matter to talk page for discussion), please? Re: Barry Harris (Canadian musician)

Hi - thanks for your message. At the request of Barry Harris himself I have amended his Wiki page - apologies for not initially describing the changes (I've not amended Wiki for a while) - I have since rectified this. Many thanks Servitor Vek (talk) 18:42, 18 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Servitor Vek and thanks for leaving me a message here. Sorry, but editing a page where you have a conflict of interest is a behavior that's not encouraged by the community. This is due to the inability for those users to maintain a neutral point of view with their edits. Any content added can also be cited as original research, which isn't allowed on Wikipedia articles. Original research is content that's referenced off an editors personal experience, relationships, findings, and references (even if its published). You can also call it "citing yourself". This is not allowed because such content cannot be verified for authenticity or accuracy. Please review this policies and guidelines, as they are very important. John Daker socks

Hey Osh, just saw you reviewed my tag on the one sock account. In looking at the instructions at Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/John Daker, could you by chance delete the user talk pages from these socks and create protect them? I suppose a steward should also globally lock these accounts. A CU might be necessary if there's any other accounts involved... Home Lander (talk) 20:47, 18 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

After further review I've taken it to SPI, so never mind. Home Lander (talk) 20:59, 18 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Look, Oshwah. Perhaps you have a past with paintings lost on the Nazis. But let me tell you, the promise of the Web is dying by the likes of you. No personal offense, really.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.10.16.32 (talk) 00:02, 19 September 2017‎

I did a search for an obit on Laurie McBain and found nothing. Is this someone up to mischief? Jim1138 (talk) 01:22, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Jim1138 - Not sure, but I edited the article to fix the past-tense reference in the summary paragraph. I don't see where her death was cited at all... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:26, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I left a message on the IP's talk page requesting a source. Jim1138 (talk) 01:45, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Is this undue? There are lots of RS google search calling Cantwell such. Cheers Jim1138 (talk)

Jim1138 - If numerous reliable sources refer to this BLP as the nickname, and it's referenced in the article - I don't see an issue with it being there. What are your thoughts? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:24, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It seems that Cantwell has made a name for himself. I was asking for a second opinion. Should I add more of these references for the moniker? There seem to be many who "don't like it". Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 01:45, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Jim1138 - Adding more references to verify something can never hurt. Least that's what I think :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:47, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A question

Dear Oshwah, how are you? I'm here per your kind offer of help. I was trying to open a Sockpuppet investigations subpage for a user but the page was protected while I tried it for anther user and it allowed me. What's wrong? Tnx. --Mhhossein talk 04:59, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Mhhossein - Okay, first of all, why did you add "(under normal circumstances, I'd be asleep and unaware of this conversation, so wouldn't be able to do anything)" to Adam9007's response to a discussion above on my talk page in your message to me here? And secondly, I would need to know what SPI subpage you were trying to edit, exactly. Can you provide the link to it for me? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:21, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Mhhossein - And yes, by the way, I'm always happy to give you a hand if you need it :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:24, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
See the edit once again, I've not added "(under normal circumstances..." to your TP! I checked the history and found that Asam himself had added the phrase. I was trying to report Dr.K. at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations. Thank you again. --Mhhossein talk 06:56, 19 September 2017 (UTC)let[reply]
Mhhossein - I'm a moron. Sorry for thinking you added that phrase! I... thought it was a little strange... LOL! Anyways, let me take a look. Stand by. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 07:00, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Mhhossein - It's protected because of abuse. What evidence do you have supporting your accusations toward Dr.K. of being a sock puppet? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 07:03, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It's strange, what kind of abuse? Well, see Talk:Ali Khamenei. To be honest, I'm going to lean toward other users. Will the final report include any related accounts to that of the master, regardless of whom I have reported as puppet? --Mhhossein talk 07:19, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
