The listing in bold of teams who owned the top scorer doesn't seem too relevant. Would anyone object if I changed it to putting teams who won The Double in bold instead? Oldelpaso 19:09, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

Most of the information in English football (Tier one) has been merged. I think it is now ready to turn it into a redirect. Some information has not been merged for the following reasons: Logos - repeated use of club logos does not qualify as fair use. Third place finishes are not included as I don't regard them as particularly notable in a list of winners, it is unlikely that a club would list a third place in their club honours. In any case, both this and the number of teams participating can be deduced from the appropriate Season in English football article, e.g. 1888-89 in English football. A similar rationale applies to the list of top three finishes by club. If there are no objections in a few days time I will turn English football (Tier one) into a redirect. Individual records

It might be an idea to include a list of individual records. One containing players who have won the most top tier English league titles and another with the all time top scorers in the top tier of English football. Doubles and trebles

I think this section is pretty misleading. Everyone in English football knows that "the double" means winning the league and the FA Cup. Nobody would ever describe winning the league and some other cup as a "double". (Well, only those who perhaps wish to falsely imply that achieving that feat is equal to the real double. ;)) "The treble" is similarly iffy in that it's only really happened once and so lacks the definitive historical connotation that "the double" has. I completely agree, the only thing that should be worth noting in bold is the true double, League and FA Cup, or Man U's treble. That's the "default" definition of the term. Grant.alpaugh 17:13, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

List by county

I'm removing this list as it is somewhat anachronistic (and possibly a little cruftish). The metropolitan counties are fairly recent creations. For example the Liverpool and Manchester clubs were regarded as Lancashire clubs for much of their history. Oldelpaso 20:56, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

Agreed - the border changes in 1974 create too many problems. Wolves and West Bromwich Albion to name but two are now in a different county from when they won their titles. --Jameboy 11:33, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Man City's double

Does Man City's league cup and UEFA Cup double have a place on this page? Yes, it's a double, but this is a page about English football league champions, and there is no league title win in there. Peanut4 (talk) 10:00, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Is there any room to add some kind of trivia to this section, or oddities? As an Everton fan I am aware Everton were champions on both occasions war broke out (champions 1914/15 and 1938/39). English Div 1 top scorer 1935–36

I have corrected the top scorer for 1935–36. It was previously stated that three players were tied on 31 goals, but in fact W. G. Richardson scored 39 Div 1 goals that season. Title wins by decade

The Title wins by decade section was added yesterday. I reverted it because it was totally out of keeping in style with the rest of the article. Since it's a featured list, I would suggest such significant changes should be discussed here first. But the edit has been added again. Instead of getting into a lame edit war, I'll be the first to bring it here. Does anyone have any thoughts on the change, or any improvements that can be made to it? FA Cup

Given that the page is titled "English football champions", not "English league football champions", should the FA Cup winners 1872-88 appear also? EamonnPKeane (talk) 21:59, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Successive Winners

I'd like to propose a section on teams who have won the title in successive years (at a glance Aston Villa, Sheffield Wednesday, Newcastle United, Portsmouth, Wolves, Chelsea; plus the hat-trick winners) and hat-tricks of three wins in a row - (Huddersfield, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United (twice)). Leading scorers

Leading league goalscorer is not an attribute of the English football champions, since the leading goalscorer can come from any club, not necessarily the title winners. I suggest the leading league goalscorer be given its own list, maybe including the leading goalscorers from other divisions if space allows. --Jameboy (talk) 13:01, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
