#REDIRECT Ralph Bakshi |
Ralph Bakshi is an American director whose work in motion pictures spans from 1972 to 1994. He is probably best known today for his animated films, notably Fritz the Cat, Coonskin and The Lord of the Rings. He made voice cameos in six of his animated features, and in episodes of Spicy City and Ren & Stimpy "Adult Party Cartoon". |
From 1957 to 1968, Bakshi worked in the animation department, and later as a director, on several animated series for both Terrytoons and Paramount Pictures. Bakshi made his debut feature film Fritz the Cat in 1972. Afterwards, Bakshi began to produce more feature films, including Heavy Traffic and Hey Good Lookin, experimenting with the use of live-action footage, and becoming known as a pioneer of adult animation. |
Bakshi also worked in the fantasy film genre, directing Wizards, The Lord of the Rings and Fire and Ice. These films, along with American Pop, incorporated use of rotoscoping. Bakshi's last theatrically released film was Cool World, released in 1992, and he has since worked primarily on television productions, such as Cool and the Crazy and Spicy City. |
