Kamen Rider Decade (仮面ライダーディケイド, Kamen Raidā Dikeido, Masked Rider DCD, Masked Rider Decade) is the title of the 2009 edition of the long-running Kamen Rider Series of tokusatsu dramas. Advertisements in Japanese magazines feature the title character amongst the title characters of the previous nine Heisei Kamen Rider Series, with the secondary riders of each series appearing in recent trailers. Decade, as its title suggests, is the tenth of the Heisei Rider Series, having begun with Kamen Rider Kuuga in 2000. It began broadcast the week following the finale of Kamen Rider Kiva and will be featured in Super Hero Time alongside the 2009 edition of the Super Sentai Series, Samurai Sentai Shinkenger. The catchphrase for the series is "Destroy everything, connect everything." (全てを破壊し、全てを繋げ, Subete o hakaishi, subete o tsunage).

Casting

Masahiro Inoue, who has portrayed Keigo Atobe in the Prince of Tennis musicals, has been cast in the lead role for Decade as Tsukasa Kadoya/Kamen Rider Decade. Also involved is Kanna Mori as Natsumi Hikari, Renji Ishibashi as Natsumi's grandfather Eijiro Hikari and Kimito Totani as Daiki Kaito/Kamen Rider Diend . Another member of the cast is Tatsuhito Okuda as the mysterious Narutaki. Kamen Rider Kuuga's World, as well as most of the other Rider Worlds, sport several characters that have been renamed and cast with different actors. Ryouta Murai has been cast as Yuusuke Onodera who is the series' version of Kuuga.

Synopsis

The story revolves around the nine previous universes of the Heisei Kamen Riders merging into one, something that would destroy all the worlds. To prevent this, Tsukasa Kadoya transforms into Kamen Rider Decade to protect his own dimension by defeating the Kamen Riders of the other dimensions.

Rider War

The Rider Army (ライダー軍, Raidā Gun), first revealed in Natsumi Hikari's dream, composed of many Kamen Riders, all of whom where seemingly defeated by Kamen Rider Decade. However, Kamen Rider Kuuga survived the initial battle, assuming Ultimate Form to confront Decade once again with the two seemingly destroying each other in the ensuing battle. As Narutaki explains to Natsumi, it will be the Rider War that awakens Decade as the demon destined to destroy all the worlds.

As the story of Kamen Rider Decade takes place amongst many different dimensions, the characters and settings change as the series go on. The only constant characters are Tsukasa Kadoya and the Hikari family: Natsumi Hikari and her grandfather, Eijiro. However, the group is joined by various members of the Rider Worlds that they visit. So far, the group has been joined by Yuusuke Onodera of Kuuga's World and Kivala of Kiva's World.

Generally, episodes of Decade are titled similarly to the episodes of the series that they reference. Kamen Rider Kuuga's episodes were titled with only two kanji, and episodes of Kamen Rider Kiva have a musical reference and musical notation in the title.

The Onigashima Battleship

Cho Kamen Rider Den-O & Decade NEO Generations The Movie: The Onigashima Battleship (劇場版 超·仮面ライダー電王&ディケイド NEO ジェネレーションズ 鬼ヶ島の戦艦, Gekijōban Chō-Kamen Raidā Den'ō ando Dikeido Neo Jenerēshonzu Onigashima no Senkan) was released on May 1, 2009. The film takes place between episodes 15 and 16 of Decade and primarily features the cast characters from Kamen Rider Den-O in their new media franchise, the Cho Den-O Series.

All Riders vs. DaiShocker

The film Kamen Rider Decade The Movie: All Riders vs. DaiShocker (劇場版 仮面ライダーディケイド オールライダー対大ショッカー, Gekijōban Kamen Raidā Dikeido: Ōru Raidā tai Daishokkā) is to open in Japanese theaters on August 8, 2009, double-booked with the Shinkenger film. Promotional materials feature characters from the Heisei series (e.g. Decade, Blade, Den-O), the Shōwa series (e.g. Kamen Rider, Stronger, Birth of the 10th!, BLACK RX), and the films that were released in the early 1990s (e.g. Shin, ZO).

In its first week on the Oricon Weekly Charts, "Journey through the Decade" reached the #2 spot, having sold approximately 51,666 records in that time.

Masahiro Inoue had been recording "Ride the Wind" with Shuhei Naruse to be released on April 22, 2009. Prior to its appearance in the series, Inoue announced the song's on his blog and that he would record it under his character's name.

Avex Group, as part of Decade's soundtrack, is releasing a series of albums featuring the songs of the previous nine Heisei Rider series titled the SONG ATTACK RIDE series. Each album features the original opening theme song, as well as a rearrangement of each by "Kamen Rider's official band" RIDER CHIPS and by "Climax Jump" composer Shuhei Naruse. The first album, to be released on May 20, 2009, features "Kamen Rider Kuuga!" (仮面ライダークウガ！, Kamen Raidā Kūga) originally performed by Masayuki Tanaka for Kamen Rider Kuuga, "Break the Chain" originally performed by Tourbillon for Kamen Rider Kiva, and "Alive A life" originally performed by Rica Matsumoto for Kamen Rider Ryuki.
