Screengrab from Archimedes Elite showing a rear view out of a Cobra of a group of military police Vipers, as it speeds away from the planet. You can tell they are military police due to the 5-by-1 formation, as opposed to the 2-by-3 formation adopted by normal police, although as far as the game's AI is concerned they operate exactly the same way.

Summary

Screengrab from Archimedes Elite showing a rear view out of a Cobra of a group of military police Vipers, as it speeds away from the planet. You can tell they are military police due to the 5-by-1 formation, as opposed to the 2-by-3 formation adopted by normal police, although as far as the game's AI is concerned they operate exactly the same way.

Note: the original source of this screenshot is a modified version of the one which can be found on Gold Edition, a fan-created Archimedes Elite website. The modifications include removing some graphics and the current time/tonnage display, as the !EliteExt mod was used when taking the screenshot. It took a lot of time and effort to find a squad of military police, fly directly in front of them in the centre matching speed, control the ship while only using the rear view, and then pose the shot without crashing into one of the Vipers!

Though this image is subject to copyright, its use is covered by the U.S. fair use laws because:

  1. David Braben and Ian Bell have released no such images into the public domain, and a replacement image could not be created that would adequately provide the same information.
  2. The image is being used for no purpose other than to identify the subject of the article.
  3. The image resolution has been significantly decreased from the original, so copies made from it would be of inferior quality.
  4. The use of this image neither detracts from the game nor inhibits its salability in any way.
