Map
When this article was noted as needing a map I'm not sure what is meant by it. Does it need to show Exeter's location within the United Kingdom or (more difficult) The location of Giraffe Café within Exeter. Or maybe even a map of Plymouth with all the event marked on the same map: The arrest, the road closures, the mosque, Nicky Reily's house etc. Meaty♠Weenies (talk) 14:10, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
- What I was thinking was one of Exeter no doubt showing Princesshay within int and the roads surrounding which were evacuated {references can tell which roads were closed etc.} I had a go with open street map and have gave up Thenthornthing (talk) 14:13, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
- I could do this on a map, but I'm unsure of how to get a map or if I would have permission to then upload the map onto Wikipedia (licensing). If you know where I can get a map, which I'd be allowed to use then please tell me. In the mean time I'll ask around. P.S references always go straight after punctuation (don't leave a space). Meaty♠Weenies (talk) 14:32, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
- Ya, i've the same problem hence why I have put a note here for a map and not done one myself ;), oh and thanks for the note on the references. Thenthornthing (talk) 15:39, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
- I've exported an .svg of the area, but it doesn't quite look right. Meaty♠Weenies (talk) 15:52, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
- slightly pixelated, but it would do. But i'm not sure if you can edit it and draw lines on, or if that is a breech of the copyright. Thenthornthing (talk) 15:55, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
- No, you're allowed to. I can remove the bus stops if you like. I'm still not quite sure what roads are blocked off, so if you could give me a list I can floodill them red or something. Meaty♠Weenies (talk) 16:02, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
- I've uploaded a new version now. I added three stars of different sizes (to look like an explosion); text saying "Girrafe Restaurant"; and a straight line between the two. Now it doesn't load. Meaty♠Weenies (talk) 17:30, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
- I was gonna have another go, but will jsut tell you which streets were closed: The bottom of High street through Queen Street { just do a red line or something from onepoint to the next.} Queen Street through to Sidwell Street {junction with Cheeke Street} and through to the Paris Street roundabout {not including r'about}, including Bus Station. Through southernhay and barnfield road, back to the bottom of High street - not including South Street.

Good luck ;) Thenthornthing (talk) 17:34, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
- Am I going to need a larger map? I don't think I can fit Sidweel Street on. Also there are two roads under the name Southernhay: Southernhay East and Southernhay West. If you have Inkscape it might be easier for you to plot the roads on (after I've changed the size of the map of course). Meaty♠Weenies (talk) 17:49, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, you'll have to change the map size. On southernhay east and west include up to and including Barnfield Road. I don't have inkscape though . Thenthornthing (talk) 18:12, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
I have done the map now. If there are any errors with the roads then please let me know. I'm going to add to the article now! Meaty♠Weenies (talk) 19:18, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
- Ya, I think that should be ok. If need be we can always make amendments later. Cheers Thenthornthing (talk) 19:25, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
Ouch! I just noticed something. This image is over 2MB! Usually pages can't be over 2MB, so I'm not sure if this affects it in anyway. Meaty♠Weenies (talk) 00:00, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- Haha yes so I see. If you could reduce the quality a little bit that should solve the problem. Thenthornthing (talk) 08:56, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- I've exported it as a bitmap (.png) and now it's 488 KB with the same quality. If anyone else if interested in changing the map you must change the vector and then upload a new version of it and then export it to bitmap and then upload a new version of the bitmap on commons. Image from Flickr
The image from Flickr, which I put in the infobox, I had express permission to use. I will try and get the author to show these another way then. Thenthornthing (talk) 08:57, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- On the Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 License I've attributed it to CHELLE1002. If possible, copy and paste the email you recieved with the header as proof. If you've done that I'll be more than happy to put it back in the article. Meaty♠Weenies (talk) 13:54, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- All done. Thenthornthing (talk) 14:39, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
Done I've restored the article to its previous state. Meaty♠Weenies (talk) 14:59, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, much appreciated Thenthornthing (talk) 16:20, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
Subsequently
"subsequently the only person injured". Do we mean consequently? DJ Clayworth (talk) 19:15, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
- Probably. Be bold my friend! Meaty♠Weenies (talk) 19:19, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
Over dramatic
"The Exeter bombing was an attempted suicide attack", and "Thousands were evacuated from the city centre.". As far as I am aware, the bombs were meant to be detonated later when the cafe was busy, prehaps even days later. Please provide proof that this was a suicide attack - i.e. police statement. I have the same issue with my second quote. For a start, I doubt that there were thousands of people in the area during a weekday. How can you validate your claim? 77.99.240.39 (talk) 17:15, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
- News sources. Why do you think there are over a dozen references? It's not being over-egged. News reported said that there were several thousand people evacuated, as with the police statements provided within the references. Thenthornthing (talk) 18:24, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
- I've just been through those references, and could find nothing saying that this was a suicide bomb attempt, nor that there were several thousand people evacuated. The best I can find is that the city center was evacuated, with a 100 meter clear zone, and that MI5 fears mentally ill people may be persuaded to perform suicide attacks, not stating that this case was a suicide attack. Over a dozen references doesn't prove your point if none of them give any info. 77.99.240.39 (talk) 14:58, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is free to edit remember so if you feel otherwise and can source it then do so. Thenthornthing (talk) 15:14, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

I've edited this page to comply with UK reporting rules of people being innocent until proven guilty, or at least admitting their own guilt. In this case neither has happened., plus as I agree there seems to be no evidence that it was an attempted suicide bomb I have removed all references to this. If when this case comes to court there is anything presented to indicate that that was the aim then feel free to change back.--C Hawke (talk) 13:22, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

Assessment comment
The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:2008 Exeter attempted bombing/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.
Start - I have given this a Start class rating, because it is well illustrated with appropriate licenses; it includes an infobox and covers most of the areas pretty well. It is also very well referenced. I am sure that more information will unfold at a slightly later date for this article as it is quite recent and as a result more information will be in those areas that are "lacking" detail. Hopefuly with that information and continued detail it should soon be up to B class. Meaty♠Weenies (talk) 17:58, 27 May 2008 (UTC) |
