The Jabalia camp market airstrike[1] was an airstrike carried out by Israeli forces during the October 2023 Gaza−Israel conflict on October 9, 2023. According to Hamas, the attack resulted in 50 civilian deaths.[2][3]

Events

On 9 October 2023, an airstrike killed more than 50 people including children in Jabalia camp, a Palestinian refugee camp located 3 kilometers (1.9 mi) north of Jabalia in the Gaza Strip.[4][5]

Background

The Jabalia refugee camp market is considered one of the most lively areas in the Gaza Strip. It is located in the northeast of Gaza City. There is a residential area in the market, the Al-Ternis area, which is considered part of the market, the largest commercial market in Gaza.[6]

Attack

On Monday, October 9, 2023, in the afternoon, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) launched a series of raids on the market of the Jabalia Camp, located in the northeast of Gaza City. IAF aircraft bombed the Al-Trans area in the Jabalia Camp, which is a vital and densely populated area. According to Hamas, more than 50 civilians were killed. Gaza's health ministry reported "dozens" dead and wounded.[7][8]
