British Climatic Research Unit's emails hacked

[edit]

{{helpme}} The news is getting 5 days old. I hope there is a way to work a lot and to publish it today. But I'm a novice; the "to-do" list at the talk page of the article is now a "done" list. Help? Please? Q0k (page, talk, contributions) 00:09, 25 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Please don't spam talk pages

[edit]

Please tell me where is an article in Wikinews with exact definition of spam, as there should have been a policy about it, but I just can't remember one. I certainly understand, but it would be good to read something about it for better understanding. Q/0/k 11:28, 16 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

I needed help of experienced Wikinews editors. I had found them at Wikinews talk:Writing contest 2010/entrants and asked them to help. However, as Wikipedia Spam article says, "Spam is the abuse of electronic messaging systems (including most broadcast media, digital delivery systems) to send unsolicited [not looked for or requested; unsought] bulk messages indiscriminately." This sounds like my recent actions. I'll try to avoid this later. Thank you! Q/0/k 04:08, 18 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

I do not think it is very late, as nobody is helping with the article Climate contrarians in Copenhagen. Please join the discussion, if you can do it attentively, if you have some free 30 minutes? I'm just afraid that this novice user Wikiwide, the author of the article, being probably a scientist (you just look at the first version of this article), has a very little understanding of what Wikinews is. And probably has lots of other work to do, is not interested, etc. Even the topic of climate contrarians near UNCCC sounds scientific, doesn't it? I think that if you revive this article, it will be very good for Wikinews, for this user, and for the environment (as some of the "skeptics" or just common diesel car drivers can find this article realistic). Please be informed that only an experienced Wikinews user can manage with such significant and responsible task. Q/0/k 09:05, 18 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

We don't have a policy per se on talk page spam but most users frown upon messaging a whole bunch of people. I would second Bawolff's suggestions on how to alert the community. --PatrickFlaherty (talk) 10:46, 19 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

JavaScript

[edit]
  • JS/banner/extended conversation i'm having on brianmc's talk page. Thought i'd respond over here, since the conversation on brianmc's talk really isn't about brianmc. For the fundraiser banner, you can get rid of it on all pages by adding: #centralNotice {display:none !important;} to special:mypage/vector.css (this will disable all central messages which is any message from the foundation).(If you just don't like js, thats fine too) Bawolff 06:46, 18 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Without JavaScript, I do not see advertisement in other places of World Wide Web, including my e-mail box, and many news sites. This is why I have turned it off. Q/0/k 08:49, 18 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

JS on moz bug

[edit]

I'm sorry, but to be honest, I don't feel that its appropriate for me to venture an opinion on this. Its their website, they can do what they want with it.(Especially considering the outward facing portions all work without js, so its really an internal policy matter). Its really none of my business to tell them how they should make their website. It might be different if i was a member of the mozilla development community, but i'm not.
