Coordinators' working group

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. Any comments regarding the structure and function of Christianity related material are welcome at Wikipedia:WikiProject Christianity/General Forum#Project organization. Article alerts

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Wording of first section of portal page

I would very much urge that the phrasing of the first section of the portal page be adjusted in such a way that the "exclusivity" is removed. The only purposes I can see served by having such phrasing there are alienating editors who are interested in their own church and or minister and reducing the number of articles the project can instantly count for use in the Portal:Calvinism. Basically, on both points, what the phrasing accomplishes is turning away editors more than inviting them in, and that more or less flies in the face of any WikiProject's purpose. Not sure what you are refering to here but it would seem the part that says

Calvinism is a theological system and an approach to the Christian life that emphasizes the rule of God over all things. Named after John Calvin, this variety of Protestant Christianity is sometimes called the Reformed tradition, the Reformed faith, or Reformed theology.

If so, what parts of this do you think are projecting exclusivity rather than just being decriptive of what Calvinism is.--Carlaude ^(talk) 00:32, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, meant "Project" page, probably because I'm working on portals got the words confused. The first section of the Project page contains the following language which I believe may well do a better job of alienating potential members than drawing them in. "The general scope is the same as that of the Calvinism category. In particular, some major opponents are included in the scope of WikiProject Calvinism. Some members of WikiProject Calvinism believe that this includes people such as James I of England. The tagging of an article means "this article needs attention from someone in WikiProject Calvinism".

Calvinists should only be included if:

• They're theologians, philosophers, or some other important Christian worker (eg. Bible translator, evangelist, whatever)
• They're politicians (kings, lords, whatever) that had an influence on the ability of Calvinism to spread (ie. took in Calvinist refugees, were of help to Calvinism materially, and the like)
• Possibly someday we'll start including Calvinist ministers (and feel free to include some if you're sure that you are going to work on them), but we started doing that, and it was too huge for us". John Carter (talk) 00:50, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Article selection for portals

Hello. As several of you might already know, there are a rather large number of portals relating to the basic subject of "Christianity" and all of its subtopics, this being one of them. One problem which might arise from the presence of all these portals is the possibility that certain articles might be comparatively overused by the portals, possibly even concurrently, while other articles as worthy get overlooked. To possibly help reduce the likelihood of that happening, I have started a list at User:John Carter/Christianity portals of the various eligible articles which at least seem to me to be directly relevant to the portals. Any parties interested in being one of the coordinators of WikiProject Christianity and its various related projects is encouraged to list themselves as a candidate at Wikipedia:WikiProject Christianity/Coordinators/Election 2. It would be particularly beneficial if we had individuals from as broad a range of areas of the project as possible, to help ensure that we have people knowledgable about the widest range of content possible.
