Whilst creating and editing cricket-related list articles, editors often encounter recurring questions on what lists are suitable for inclusion and what are not. WikiProject Cricket's participants have agreed to the following inclusion criteria as a result of discussion on its talk page and consensus reached from AfD discussions related to cricket lists. These criteria also fall within the WP:NLIST, WP:NOTSTATS and WP:LISTCRUFT policies and guidelines.
- General
- There must be a complete data of the lists altogether in independent and reliable sources, those lists should not be created as articles which have not collected in independent and reliable sources. For example- List of Bangladesh Premier League captains is acceptable as the list of captains have been included in multiple reliable stats websites. But such articles like List of Everest Premier League captains (note this is a red link) aren't acceptable, even if such lists are created by collecting list of captains from individual seasons.
- The list topic should be discussed as a group or set by independent reliable sources as per WP:NLIST.
- The list of statistics should have context or explanation, statistics should be placed in tables to enhance readability, and articles with statistics should include explanatory text providing context with independent and reliable sources as per WP:NOTSTATS. Just copying from any stats websites can't meet the inclusion criteria.
- Lists of individual and cricket team records
- Any list of cricket record or achievement of an individual or a group of some cricketers is suitable for inclusion if they are regarded as a significant or prestigious achievement by reliable sources. For example- List of cricketers who scored a century in their hundredth Test, List of players who have scored 10,000 or more runs in One Day International cricket etc.
- Any common or insignificant individual cricket records are not acceptable as they are not rare enough to be interesting to a wide audience. For example- List of Hong Kong ODI cricket centurions and many other related articles which were deleted per consensus reached from AfD discussion.
- The lists of cricket team's records like- List of Bangladesh One Day International cricket records are suitable if the matches played by the team received official Test, ODI, T20I, first-class, List A or T20 status, and if there is complete data of those records in reliable sources.
- For the list of matches played by cricketers, playing 100 Tests, 200 ODIs and 50 T20Is are agreed as the cut-off by the WikiProject Cricket, as it is presumed that playing such number of matches are regarded as prestigious achievements of cricketers (by reliable sources).
- The records and statistics for the matches played between two teams aren't acceptable. For example- the article List of Australia Test cricket records against Bangladesh and many other related articles were deleted after AfD discussions, and the consensus was that such lists were not needed because Wikipedia is not a stats website.
- Lists of records, players and centuries/five-wicket hauls of tournaments
- Only those records which are considered as significant records or achievements should be included for international or domestic tournaments, such as- Scoring a century or picking up a five-wicket haul.
- The lists of statistics/records or players of international or domestic tournaments are suitable if the matches of the tournament have received official Test, ODI, T20I, first-class, List A or T20 status by the International Cricket Council (ICC). But there must be a source from which the data has been collected. If any list of tournaments' records and statistics is created by collecting the records altogether from the statistics section of the articles of individual tournaments' seasons, then it will not be acceptable.
- The lists for statistics or records for short-lasting tournaments which have been only one season should not be included, because the statistics for that one season can be found on the main article of that season. For examples- List of National Cricket League Twenty20 records and List of Lanka Premier League records and statistics which were nominated for deletion and were closed as "delete" or "redirect" per the consensus reached through discussions.
- List of centuries or five-wicket hauls on cricket grounds or by individual cricketers
- Any list of centuries or five-wicket hauls on any cricket ground should only be created if it is enough prestigious for a player to score a century or to pick up a five-wicket haul on that ground.
- For the list of centuries or five-wicket hauls on any cricket ground, the ground must have received substantial coverage for the centuries or five-wicket hauls at the ground.
- Any list of centuries or five-wicket hauls by any cricketer is should only be created as a separate article if there is enough coverage about the centuries or five-wicket hauls by the cricketer. The members of WikiProject Cricket have agreed to consider 25 centuries and 15 five-wicket hauls as the cut-off for individual cricket centuries or five-wicket hauls, as it is presumed that there may be some coverage when any player scores 25 centuries or picks up 15 five-wicket hauls. But if there is not enough coverage despite meeting the cut-off, the article will fail the criteria. For example- List of international cricket centuries by Sachin Tendulkar meets the criteria as there is much coverage about the player's centuries.
- As mentioned above in the general criteria, the articles with list of centuries or five-wicket hauls should also have explanatory text or summarised content providing context with independent and reliable sources in the lead section.
