Category:Quebec politicians by city
edit- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: merge. MER-C 19:17, 27 October 2020 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: No other Canadian province has its own province-specific subcategory of Category:Canadian politicians by city, and with just five cities here and 17 cities in the parent it's not clear that subdividing the tree by province is warranted at all. Category:American politicians by city is subdivided by state, but it has around 200 cities with dedicated politicians categories, not just 22, and Canada does not have to automatically match everything the US does as a matter of course without regard to whether Canada's own needs warrant it or not. Bearcat (talk) 17:27, 19 October 2020 (UTC)
- Support per nom. Marcocapelle (talk) 18:33, 19 October 2020 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: keep. It sounds like there is no real consensus on whether to include cover songs, but there is at least one original song in the category now. Good Ol’factory (talk) 02:09, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Category with only two redirects - and one of them has no mention of S&R at the target page. No navigational help to readers. Richhoncho (talk) 08:38, 19 October 2020 (UTC)
- Keep - I added "Fire" to the category, and Sly and Robbie's version (which charted) is mentioned in the Cover versions section of that article; "Night Nurse" now exists with a Sly and Robbie section (notable cover), and I created "Boops (Here to Go)", a notable No. 12 / No. 13 UK / NZ hit. ~Hiddenstranger (talk) 12:52, 19 October 2020 (UTC)
- Delete, category contains non-defining covers. Marcocapelle (talk) 16:21, 19 October 2020 (UTC)
- They are notable hit covers esp. "Night Nurse" and "Boops (Here to Go)" is an original hit song. Hiddenstranger (talk) 19:15, 19 October 2020 (UTC)
- Ok, then keep "Boops (Here to Go)" but remove the three others from the category, they are notable but not defining. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:26, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
- So therefore the category should not be deleted as it contains articles of notable songs by the artist. Also, artist songs categories can be added to song articles of songs they covered as long as the cover is notable enough to be included in the article per WP:COVERSONG. Hiddenstranger (talk) 00:21, 22 October 2020 (UTC)
- No we only categorize based on defining characteristics, per WP:CATDEF. In order for Fire (Ohio Players song) to be added to the category the song must be known as a Sly and Robbie song. A song is hardly ever defined by who covered it. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:26, 22 October 2020 (UTC)
- It is known as a Sly and Robbie song but it was less popular than the original. How well known does a cover version have to be in order for the song's article to be included in the cover artist's songs category? If the cover is more well known than the original (the original may hardly be known at all to most people) then the cover artist's songs category should be added to that song article. Thousands of song articles are categorized as such e.g. "Nothing Compares 2 U", "Girls Just Want to Have Fun", "Mickey", "Red Red Wine" and "Alone". There are many cases where there are more than one popular big hit covers of a song e.g. "Tainted Love" by Soft Cell then by Marilyn Manson; "Twist and Shout" by the Isley Brothers then the Beatles then Salt-N-Pepa then Chaka Demus & Pliers - those two songs are appropriately sitting under the cover artist's songs categories. In this particular case alone, "Night Nurse" should be included under Category:Sly and Robbie songs as the original did not chart (although it did receive heavy airplay at the time) whereas Sly and Robbie's version was the notable chart hit. Hiddenstranger (talk) 14:52, 22 October 2020 (UTC)

edit- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: delete. Good Ol’factory (talk) 02:12, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: This category name fails WP:NONDEF as it encompasses works with non-defining usage of military vehicles. Category:Fictional military vehicles was already created by me and is more in line with the current naming scheme. I didn't catch this one, otherwise I would have done a WP:C2C. But there is no point in it existing now. ZXCVBNM (TALK) 08:03, 19 October 2020 (UTC)
- Delete The categories as named would include practically any work with a military vehicle. How is this defining? Dimadick (talk) 16:02, 22 October 2020 (UTC)
- Merge to Category:Fictional military vehicles. The first category has an article which will be orphaned from this tree. Peterkingiron (talk) 16:29, 25 October 2020 (UTC)
- No, it is an article about a video game, it should not be put in a vehicles category. Marcocapelle (talk) 18:03, 25 October 2020 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: Delete per WP:OVERLAPCAT, an unnecessary overcategorization of the parent category. ZXCVBNM (TALK) 07:55, 19 October 2020 (UTC)
- Question, if not kept shouldn't it at least be merged to Category:Female characters in animation? Marcocapelle (talk) 16:26, 19 October 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose There are two parent categories, as this covers animated television series characters. This is distinct from characters in other forms of animation or other forms of television. Dimadick (talk) 16:04, 22 October 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose There is a "Male characters in animated series" category, so it stands to reason there would be a female category. Treybien2 (talk) 03:20, 7 November 2020 (UTC)
