Isles of Scilly climate dispute
editPlease use the {{help me}} template appropriately. The {{help me}} template is for help in using Wikipedia, not for unrelated issues. Please see the dispute here. The anonymous IP is not responding to my arguments and repeatedly reverting the article away from its WP:QUO. Is there anything I can do about this without going into lengthy dispute resolution processes? Uness232 (talk) 19:23, 18 November 2024 (UTC)
- The 'Status Quo' on this article, if you examine the edit history, was NOT to include the ludicrous claim that the Isle of Scilly are 'subtropical'. Uness232 is breaking the status quo by adding this unreferenced fringe view (see also here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Subtropics) into the article, without gaining consensus or engaging first on the article talk page. Uness232 is deliberately misrepresenting "WP:Quo". Uness232 relies on sources based on Uness232's interpretation (WP:OR) of the Trewartha classification, which is not backed by a single WP:RS. Despite being asked to provide just one RS, Uness232 is unable to do so, since none exist. Uness232 has then started an edit war, breaking 3RR rules and vandalising the page. However, I support the request for help from other editors who I trust will see sense on this issue. 86.184.52.46 (talk) 20:30, 18 November 2024 (UTC)
- I am not adding anything. You are trying to remove something that has been there for more than a year. I have also provided sources saying that 8 months over 10C is the official threshold for Trewartha. You have ignored ALL of these, including the source you provided that ended up supporting the threshold. Uness232 (talk) 22:33, 18 November 2024 (UTC)
- 1 - It's not been there for more than a year.
- 2 - You are removing sourced material without explanation which is vandalism.
- 3 - I've sourced Trewartha's book. Clearly you haven't read his chapter on subtropical climates which clearly states marine climates in this category must be frostless. (Trewartha, Glenn Thomas (1968). An Introduction to Climate. McGraw-Hill,. p. Ch: Subtropical climates. ISBN 9780700651481.)
- 4- If you revert again I will report your 3RR and vandalism. 86.184.52.46 (talk) 22:43, 18 November 2024 (UTC)
- I've reverted your content addition - please discuss on the talk page to gain consensus for your addition, and go to the dispute resolution noticeboard if necessary (likely in this case).
- @Uness232:'s edits don't look like vandalism to me, though I could be wrong. They are also edit warring (so, Uness, in the future, consider giving a WP:3RR warning or comment about the edit warring policy, and don't get close to or go past it yourself as well.) FifthFive (talk) 22:52, 18 November 2024 (UTC)
- @FifthFive Thank you. I am sorry about getting ahead of myself in terms of reverting; I was frustrated with the tone of the other editor, and got more invested in it than I should have been.
- This discussion about the word "subtropical" is unfortunately a perennial one by the way, inside and outside Wikipedia (see here), but I will say my edits are in line with what we usually do in city climate pages, and people violating WP:QUO over a discussion we've had maybe 10 times now is very frustrating, I must admit. Uness232 (talk) 22:59, 18 November 2024 (UTC)
- They are still editing before discussing, by the way. I will no longer revert, but I hope someone can.Uness232 (talk) 23:01, 18 November 2024 (UTC)
- Stop reverting, please. And stop adding in unsourced content. Please read Trewartha's book which clearly states marine locations have to be frost-free. What you are doing isn't helpful and makes WP look silly. No-one in their right mind would classify the Scilly Islands, Boardeaux or Istanbul as sub tropical. Have you visited any of these places in January?! 86.184.52.46 (talk) 00:40, 19 November 2024 (UTC)

. voorts (talk/contributions) 00:55, 19 November 2024 (UTC)- If edit warring continues after this brief block is over, this article could be placed under full protection that would prevent editing from any editors except for administrators. Please spend more time on the talk page than editing the article. If there is a climate-related WikiProject, you might post a neutral message on their talk page, inviting their members to weigh in on the RFC that was opened on the article talk page. Thank you.
