Teaching on Wikipedia

edit

I assume you are familiar with WP:SUP? I think students are capable of not only achieving B-class, but GA; it the several classes I taught about half the groups managed to get to the GA level. Feel free to ask me any questions; you can see my wiki syllabus at User:Piotrus/Teaching. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 22:42, 6 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thelmadatter, what kind of mentoring are you looking for?? (I was replying to your previous topic heading, but it seemed to disappear) --nsaum75¡שיחת! 22:44, 6 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
SUP is not that active, but I do think it is watched by many. It is a good place to ask SUP-related questions. Online Ambassadors is quite new, but it is another good place, too. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 01:53, 7 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

I know a way you can spread the word: Why not post at the Wikipedia:Village pump? It's a good way to let an announcement out. Also I think the Spanish Wikipedia also would need some help building it up. So maybe have students contribute articles in both languages. I know some United States-based articles that need to be started and/or built up. I start some stubs in Spanish (I know a little Spanish), but I would appreciate it if some students would build them up and/or start new articles in Spanish too WhisperToMe (talk) 02:57, 7 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

BTW if you need any additional help (mentoring for particular students - please indicate usernames of the students), I will be glad to provide it! WhisperToMe (talk) 06:35, 7 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Enslaving students :)

edit

Yeah sure. You should ask members WP:TRANSWIKI for assistance and make a note on the talk page. This sort of thing really ought to be done on a much larger scale and consistently, there are plenty of language schools out there needing writing practice. Dr. Blofeld 08:39, 7 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Brilliant work with Oaxaca. With a bit of work this should definately be proposed for GA. I've done a lot of condensing work tonight, moving some sections to seperate articles. The history needs splitting and condensing also. If you can work with me on this over the next month whenever you can we'll have it polished off. It is still missing a lot of important information about things like Literature, Theatre, Healthcare, Transport, Religion, Media but I hope eventually we'll have this written in and the other sections condensed into a good article. Excellent work though. Tomorrow I'll create a state montage of images to go in the infobox. Dr. Blofeld 21:43, 7 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yeah remember we worked together on the valley article and it didn't pass and need fathing about? Its a mixed bag, that is partly the reason why I have often been put off bothering with GAs. But if eventually all of the Mexican state articles have the quality of Oaxaca and Veracruz then this would be amazing. Some of the articles are shockingly poor and undeveloped. They are probably our most important articles for WP:Mexico after the country itself so I'm glad you are working on them. I added a montage to Oaxaca, eventually I hope they all have montages like that to pretty them up and to have similar quality articles. Dr. Blofeld 12:58, 8 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yes you would be better off putting more energy into developing the others rather than "overediting" Oaxaca. Well it needs a lot of work. I think i would need a copyedit/condensing and new sections added on Literature, Theatre, Healthcare, Transport, Religion, Media before I nominate it so it may be some time. Keep up the good work anyway, the article is in great shape. Dr. Blofeld 13:14, 8 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'll see what I can do with Nvvchar. I'd imagine we'll get stuck with the language barrier and will need some help. I actually think if we expanded the education and transport sections and added a summarised healthcare section it would pass GA even now with a bit of copyedit/cut. Mmm I forgot sport. Within the next few days I'll draw begin writing the lower sections that are needed with Nvvchar. They will require you input/added sources but I think I can do the bulk of the remaining that is needed. Look forward to seeing your healthcare section. Once added it can be copyedited and condensed and then nominated. It would be nice to see some GA listings for Mexico and a reward for your hard work, even if the process is often a little irritating. Dr. Blofeld 13:20, 8 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thelma I've added the sport and transport from spanish wiki to User:Nvvchar/Sandbox 2. Maybe one of your pupils could translate it and we can find sources and improve it afterwards?. Dr. Blofeld 13:58, 8 September 2010 (UTC) I've added the Spanish wiki info in User:Nvvchar/Sandbox 2. Can you translate? Dr. Blofeld 16:59, 8 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Oh the idea is to find citations to support the text. Don't worry we'll make it into our own referenced addition I just thought the initial material would be useful as a raw start. I'll try to find some sources in Spanish about surfing etc. Obviously the sports section should start with an overivew, if anything the notable sportsmen should be last Dr. Blofeld 17:45, 8 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

The best thing I think is to scan in and extract what you think is notable and is sourceable and translate it and write into your own words i think. A lot of the Spanish wiki article is very poor and some of it is unsuitable for the english version I think. I scout around see what the main football teams are in the state etc. Once the bones of what is notable in sports is written up we can build upon it. If you find it easier to nuke the spanish wiki info and write in from scratch this is fine by me, I thought it might be useful as a start to follow... Dr. Blofeld 18:05, 8 September 2010 (UTC).Reply

Nice one. A tip from the other editor and your translation made it possible for me to add a sport section to the main article. It still needs expansion and sourcing but its a start. Dr. Blofeld 19:02, 8 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

I won't mind helping out at all. Just note that due to college I may not be as active anymore but I will still be glad to lend a helping hand. :) Magiciandude (talk) 20:43, 8 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Nice work on Health. If you can find citations for sport and transport add anything missing and expand the education section with a bit of copyediting and condensing I think it will be ready for GA. I was considering writing a summary on each of the national parks of the state. Dr. Blofeld 21:44, 9 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

That's good, almost there. Dr. Blofeld 15:49, 10 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Education

edit

I tried to expand the Education section using what sourced information I could find from Es.Wiki article as well as some stuff I found on my own. I also added primary and higher education sections, but need to find more reliably sourced info to include. Primary education here in Oaxaca is so fractured (and outside of Oaxaca de Juarez, the title of "Elementary School Teacher" often falls to a 13 year old "graduate" of the same elementary). Anyhow, I'll work on it more later. I'll also snap some pics for the recently-expanded healthcare section too. --nsaum75¡שיחת! 01:46, 11 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Looks good. Thelma can you mention what the main/most important hospitals are in Oaxaca in the health section? Dr. Blofeld 08:46, 11 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Chocolate
edit

I removed the chocolate photo and added a short video I took of chocolate being made in a Mayordomo store. I was concerned that since a branded logo was somewhat prominent in the chocolate photo, it might pose a problem during the GA review process. That said...I'm not really sure if a video belongs in the article... --nsaum75¡שיחת! 07:08, 12 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Teacher or Tutor?

I'd be happy to give your students some guidance, however, I will not take responsibility for their education. Can you send me a lesson plan or something to give me some idea on their level and what you expect for them to be taught. I have to warn you - my strengths are Math, Phsyics and Etymology (the study of words, not insects). I can give your students a basic grounding in any of these subjects.Angry Mustelid (talk) 20:37, 9 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Multiple Accounts

edit

Hi! May I trouble you to explain to your students that each one should only create one account? We had one flagged as as a WP:DUCK sockpuppet. I'm certain they meant well and no harm, so the newer account was blocked and the older one should have had the rules gently explained, but if you could give a quick reminder to them about wiki's policies, that would be fantastic. Thanks, and good luck. -- Avi (talk) 04:47, 14 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hello, thanks for getting back to me. User:FabGalvez is the new account for User:Natquintana. Which one does s/he want to use? -- Avi (talk) 14:16, 14 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, and please apologize on my behalf for any snarky comments she may have received from others. We have a severe problem with sockpuppetry on EnWiki, and so most regular users have an understandably low tolerance for it. It is unfortunate that she ran into this difficulty and then triggered people's suspicions (per WP:DUCK, which was true in this case). I hope her future experiences on wikipedia are much more pleasant, and I'll note that to her directly when she decides which account she wants to use (or if she wants a third to start fresh, and we can just lock the other two). -- Avi (talk) 14:22, 14 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
OK, that makes sense, I'll unblock them. The fact that they were posting the exact same messages and came from the same PC was the issue. Thanks! -- Avi (talk) 19:29, 14 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Mentoring, and Userpage

edit

Hi, I fixed a couple of the external links on your userpage (surfed in because of the mentoring requests). One of them though, I was not sure what you intended... "nn Virtual Language Laboratory" - so you may wish to go in and re-edit that one. I simply removed the pipes in them as they do not apply to external links used in that fashion.

Anyway, I've got a very poor knowledge of Spanish (much to my dismay, during year 3 and 4 of my Spanish class, my teacher decided not to show up for most of the classes (last two years before retirement) and we had a TA who wasnt given any coursework, which made the class more of a "study hall" than a Spanish class). If my very limited Spanish is not a problem, I'd be willing to help mentor a student or two, but figured I should ask first to see if it would be a problem. Oaxaca

edit

Hi. Oaxaca is currently a GA nom although I don't trust this new GA bot system of listing. However. The history and demographic sections need condensing and it needs some information in the religion section about the important churches and needs a rewrite that section.Dr. Blofeld 14:48, 23 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Just so the article is balanced. If nothing can be removed because it is too important then we'll leave it as it is. Actually it is OK, some of the other sections are much longer but they are split into sub headers that's all. Maybe the demo section could be split into sub headers?Dr. Blofeld 14:57, 23 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Refs also need sorting. There isn't a need to repeat the book author/name/publisher for Akaike Garrido, Yuki (2010). See Byzantine navy for an example of what I mean.Dr. Blofeld 15:53, 23 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Don't worry. I'll fix it tomorrow. Youll see what I mean then. You only have to format multiple book references that way. Helping with your students

edit

I adopted User:FabGalvez, some time back, and haven't seen much activity, even though my help was acknowledged. I was wondering if I could help him/her through you instead, if he/she is really having some difficulties with Wikipedia. The user needs to be told about the necessity of citations and references. small issues I can fix, but this something that needs to be conveyed clearly. Aggressive users such as myself will remove POV and unsourced content immediately... but I don't wish to be harsh to a newcomer. I'll check back ina few days on FabGalvez's article: Chalcatongo de Hidalgo, and hope to see the new information sourced. I can then copy-edit it.

Thanks, and might I say I simply LOVE your teaching methods :) bigforrap (talk) 18:55, 25 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

resource doesn't have too much information about it. So I can't write more about it. :( Mph267 (talk) 17:55, 26 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hola Thelmadatter.
Saludos --Jaontiveros (talk) 19:01, 30 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

I think you were right. It isn't worth it. For some reason Mexican topics have an extremely hard time at GA reviews on here. Other articles i've been involved with like Chamba, Himachal Pradesh and Sisimiut have passed easily.♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:58, 1 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yeah I know. Its exactly that sort of comment which puts you off bothering with GAs for a long time. He has a point about more book sources though. The funny thing is GAs I nominate either pass with flying colours or the reviewers say something like "was this written by a native English speaker?" or something. Ah well, I guess developing them to a point that we both know are pretty good is good enough. Its just a lot of people these days treat any article which isn't GA or above to be useless. Actually we have tens of thousands of articles which could easily pass GA but few people can be bothered with the "nitpicking".♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:47, 1 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Well whenever we pass a milestone in article count a lot of people moan and say "we shouldn't be celebrating" we only have 14,000 articles of quality. The fact is that there are tens of thousands more articles which readers find more useful than any other sources on the web...♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:59, 1 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Well I agree with you. Even well sourced stubs can be very useful. In my view Oaxaca is a much better article than Emma Watson and far more informative/encyclopedic yet one is B class, the other FA. Yet one is "formally" seen as a better article. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:14, 1 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

I've been away for a few days.

There are many wikipedians from Mexico City I believe, although not many active. We have organized a couple of meetings before, but there is not any one programmed soon, as we are living far away (some people on the pictures live on Baja California while others are living on Quintana Roo). Also, I don't live on Mexico City but I'm always willing to chat :)

Hello Leigh, thanks for the ideas about Venezuelan articles. Unfortunately it is very difficult to find reliable sources about Venezuelan topics outside Venezuela. The government official web pages are full of political advertising and have not useful information. If I was in Venezuela, I could go to many libraries and find much information but from Mexico. I have not been able to find enough info here. I have tried hard. Now I want to propose to you the topic of Industrial property in Mexico. It is related to business because it is about patents, industrial design, utility models, trend rights, etc. in Mexico. I have found in "biblioteca virtual" that there are some books about this specific topic. I have not been able to go to the library to get them, but I have started working on the article with the Mexican law of industrial property. I have written near 400 words. On Monday I will get the books and work on the article during the afternoon. The article is not created in Wikipedia, so I will visit you tomorrow to create it. Thank you and sorry for the dalay. And if you are willing to go to the Toluca area, there is:

  • Federal Social Readaptation Center No. 1 (Prison) - Santa Juana, Almoloya de Juárez, State of Mexico (Only get the main entrance sign - While there is one as seen in this document it may be best to get a sign that you see when first going into the compound, as I understand that prison authorities may not permit you to actually enter the compound) - If it is not possible to get a photo of the sign, please let me know and I will try to use the photo in the SSP document as a fair use photo, citing that it is not possible to get a representative photo of the prison

Mercado Jamaica

edit

I read the source as saying the market has flowers from about 5,000 growers, not 5,000 species (?) Aymatth2 (talk) 02:03, 15 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

The source could be accurate. There are only 131 wild species, and I would assume less domestic ones, although maybe a lot of varieties. My guess is the truckers go around the farms picking up flowers, then drive up to Mexico to sell them, so 5,000 growers may be a reasonable estimate. Another hook would be safer - good article. Public Markets

edit

Hello Thelma! Thanks for asking my opinion. I personally have never heard the term "mercados públicos" when refering to markets such as Mercado de Jamaica in Mexico City or Mercado Juárez in Monterrey. Maybe it is different in Mexico City. Well, I think the article title should be in English. Mexican public markets sounds good to me. Saludos. AlexCovarrubias ( Talk? ) 04:09, 17 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

I'd name it Retail markets in Mexico and redirect the mercados públicos.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:42, 17 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

The same as Alex, I never heard the "public market", we always say mercado, so why not Mercado (Mexico)? Tbhotch* ۩ ۞ 18:45, 17 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Hmmmm...I agree with Dr. Blowfeld...and also with Alejandro...but Tbhotch also has a point, with regards to "common name" - Mercado (Mexico)...the ex-pat American/European community in Oaxaca refers them as "Mercados", and I think if you search english-language cooking & independent travel literature (Fodor's etc), you will find them referred to as "Mercados" instead of "markets". -- nsaum75 !Dígame¡ 07:33, 18 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. At least we agree that the answer isnt obvious. Yes, travel guide in English refer to "mercados" but they do not distinguish between the kind of mercado Im writing about and tianguis. There is already an article on tianguis, which I had expanded. I think the fact that almost all of these are supported by local government is an important aspect and most of the sources I am using refer to these markets as either mercados públicos or mercados municipales. I am thinking of "Traditional public markets of Mexico" I think this makes a clear enough distinction from tianguis, (which do not have any kind of government support) and more modern markets such as supermarkets and convenience stores.Thelmadatter (talk) 15:40, 18 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Wikiacademy was OK but stand by for QR codes plus! See http://uk.wikimedia.org/wiki/Derby_Backstage_Pass and our new guest speaker. He and I have worked how to make QR codes cooler. Got enough for a plane ticket .... it d be worth it! Watch this space Victuallers (talk) 18:41, 31 March 2011 (UTC) Cooler? You click on them and "magically"? they talk to you in your language even though there are 149 people beside you reading the same code in their different languages... Cool? Victuallers (talk) 22:00, 31 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

So I need to find more articles. Is there a chance you might look at "Derby Museum and Art Gallery" ans see if you can create some stubs in Spanish? The main articles are listed in the template at the bottom. Just a few would be good, but .... if it was part of a lesson then I could get a class full?? Children's Museum Edit-a-Thon Rockstar
Thanks SO much for your hard work and enthusiasm in setting up the international translations component of our Edit-a-Thon at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis. You checked my sanity on multiple occasions as we prepared for this during a very busy time, and with little shortage of set backs. You've helped immensely in making our museum content more accessible to users both on-site and online. You're the best! LoriLee (talk) 23:21, 20 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

PS: Please do add the TCM userbox to your page, since you seem to be a userbox fan :). And if you'd like to add yourself to our E-Volunteers, you are indeed worthy of being distinguished as such. Everything is here. Also, if you have a listing of the usernames of those students who contributed to the translations, I'd love to have it so that I can thank them personally. Thanks again for all of your help! LoriLee (talk) 18:52, 21 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Ambassador Program

edit

I replied in the section you started at the Village Pump, but I thought I should contact you here. The Wikipedia Foundation is promoting the Global Education Program (Ambassador Program) to provide assistance to programs that involve students in editing Wikipedia. As you can see on that page, programs are now under way in Brazil, Canada, India, and the United States. Programs will probably begin soon in Germany and the United Kingdom. The programs are being organized by country to account for the differences in higher education systems. The Foundation will help train people associated with a school to serve as Campus Ambassadors, who work with an instructor to provide basic training to students on Wikipedia editing and etiquette. The Foundation will also help recruit Online Ambassadors, experienced Wikipedians who can mentor students. I am an Online Ambassador and a member of the Steering Committee for the United States program. As the first all-volunteer steering committee for a country program, we are prepared to assist programs in other countries until they can establish their own governance. If you would like to know more, you can contact me, or Annie Lin at alinwikimedia.org. -- Donald Albury 12:01, 2 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Children's Museum update

edit
Kit Cat Klock

It's time again to share the latest news on the Children's Museum of Indianapolis Wikipedia project! In the last few months we have been busy with our third image donation, which was made up of 150 images that were professionally photographed specifically for this upload. We are asking for volunteers to categorize these images and distribute them into Wikipedia articles. Your help is appreciated! Check them out here.

We have also donated our first video and a second GLAM-Wiki Infographic to Commons. In September we were thrilled to welcomed Jimmy Wales to the museum. Following our successful Edit-a-Thon and Translate-a-Thon in August, translations have continued with the help of the established QRpedia community, (particularly Russian translations thanks to Lvova!) We have begun to analyze our implementation of QRpedia codes and completed an extensive case study. In November we presented at the Museum Computer Network conference about how museums can effectively collaborate with Wikipedia. You can see more details on the Prezi.

In more general news, in addition to serving as the Children's Museum's Wikipedian-in-Residence, it was recently announced that I will be taking on the role of US Cultural Partnerships Coordinator for the Wikimedia Foundation. In this role I will be working to streamline the process of connecting interested US GLAMs with the Wikipedia community. If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to let me know. Be sure to sign up for This Month in GLAM to keep up with the latest GLAM-Wiki news from around the world (subscribe).

We have a listing of High Need and Moderate Need requests on the Ways to Help section on the project page. I encourage you to lend a hand if you're able. While the Children's Museum partnership continues to truck along, we still are in desperate need of volunteers to help disperse our images and update and maintain content. Thank you for your time and help. Happy holidays! LoriLee (talk) 16:45, 21 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Imaginary barnstar

edit

I came to your page after you had reviewed the DYK nom for Hu Chunhua, and I saw your user page. I am highly encouraged by the work you do and just wanted to express my appreciation for the work you've done on this encyclopedia. I have only been to Mexico once but I am fascinated by the culture and the people. Would love to return some day. Your work helps clueless travellers like me - I love looking up sites I travel to on WP. So while I couldn't really find a 'barnstar' to express this appreciation, I decided to just leave you a message instead!

I think another thing is that I identify with the work that you do. There was obviously a neglect of many Mexico-related articles, a gap that was in large part filled by you. I feel the same way with China-related articles. While there are many contributors, few of them stay around to be committed to the project. The dedicated editors are few and far in between. It's a lot of work, really. Even articles about extremely notable subjects are often short on facts. But I'm glad there's people like you and I that are willing to chug away at it. Courses for teachers

edit

I just read your comment on Wikimedia Strategic Planning that you're looking into creating some kind of vaguely defined course for teachers on Wikipedia. If this project of yours goes ahead, you might also consider doing the same on Wikipedia's sister projects. Specifically on Wikinews. The various other projects of the Wikimedia Foundation (the charity that runs and supports Wikipedia) are much smaller than Wikipedia, and so they're always interested in new contributors. English Wikinews in particular is looking to teachers and professors in an attempt to gather student users to their project.

If this sounds compatible with your ideas for a course involving various wiki projects, I suggest that you talk to Brian McNeil over on Wikinews (he's a curmudgeonly fellow who sounds ruder than he is, so take everything he says with a spoonful of sugar. He's nicer and far more helpful than he seems at first glance;)). Tell him I sent you and give him a rundown of your project requirements and your thoughts on how this might help your students (or business/institution). If he can do anything to help you, he will.

Thanks for your time. — Gopher65talk 20:01, 3 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Credo Reference Update & Survey (your opinion requested)

edit

Credo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Wikipedia editors over the past two years, has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Wikipedia editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:

It also asks some basic questions about what you like about the Credo program and what you might want to improve.

At this time only the initial 400 editors have accounts, but even if you do not have an account, you still might want to weigh in on which resources would be most valuable for the community (for example, through WikiProject Resource Exchange).

Also, if you have an account but no longer want to use it, please leave me a note so another editor can take your spot.

If you have any other questions or comments, drop by my talk page or email me at [email protected]. Cheers! Ocaasi t | c 17:35, 11 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Dear Leigh!

My name is Sophie Österberg and I am the Educational Manager at Wikimedia Sweden. I met you briefly at the EduWiki in Leicester this past month.

We are currently developing a broschure similar to the 'How professors use Wikipedia' which you were a part of. We would love to use your example of translation but will need to change the critera for what competences are developed by this as to relate to Swedish education. We have decided upon six competenses which are rated due to how well they are developed from 1 - 5 where 5 is the highest. I would like to ask you to rate these competences for me as to make possible the usage of your Wikipedia example.

The six competences are

- Analytical ability

- Informationprocessing ability

- Communicative ability

- Intelligible competence (understanding of terms and concepts)

- Social entrepreneurship and digital competence

- Meta-cognitive ability (to reflect upon Wikipedia as a resource and its usage in society at large)

Thank you so much for taking time!

Welcome to Communicate OER!

edit

Thank you for signing up on the Communicate OER team page! There's a great group forming -- so far, we have more than 25 people, with a broad range of backgrounds and interests; we have professors, librarians, instructional designers, and more. Members also span a variety of countries and language proficiencies. As we set out to improve articles about openness in education, it looks like we will have a great team to work with. If you haven't looked through the list, I encouraged you to read through it: WP:Communicate OER Team.

Whether or not you're at the Open Education conference this week, we encourage you to engage with us -- we're expecting a flurry of activity as we launch! If you're here, come visit us in room C010 any time; or come to one of our daily 45 minute intro sessions in the Remixathon track in room C215.

Another great way to stay engaged is through the project's "talk page" (aka "discussion page"): WT:COMMOER. Please always feel free to add ideas, questions, etc. at the bottom of that page -- even if you just want to say hi, and go into a little more detail about what you're hoping to work on -- we'd love to hear from you. (I just posted a note at the bottom, exploring the open education article, and seeking input into how we can go about improving it -- take a look!)

If you're just looking to get started, we have a page for that -- WP:Communicate OER Do -- intended to collect ideas of projects we can work on. There's currently a "getting started" recipe for how to post a review of a Wikipedia article; check back for further ideas in the coming days. (And if you're game, feel free to add your own!)

Looking forward to working together, -Pete (talk) 21:52, 16 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your recent articles, including Christmas in Mexico, which I read with interest. When you create an extensive and well referenced article, you may want to have it featured on Wikipedia's main page in the Did You Know section. Articles included there will be read by thousands of our viewers. To do so, add your article to the list at T:TDYK. WikiProject assessment tags for talk pages

edit
Thank you for your recent articles, including Christmas in Mexico. When you create a new article, can you add the WikiProject assessment templates to the talk of that article? See the talk page of the article I mentioned for an example of what I mean. Usually it is very simple, you just add something like {{WikiProject Keyword}} to the article's talk, with keyword replaced by the associated WikiProject (ex. if it's a biography article, you would use WikiProject Biography; if it's a United States article, you would use WikiProject United States, and so on). You do not have to rate the article if you do not want to, others will do it eventually. Those templates are very useful, as they bring the articles to a WikiProject attention, and allow them to start tracking the articles through Wikipedia:Article alerts and other tools. This can help you too, as the WikiProject members will often defend your work from deletion and try to improve it further. Feel free to ask me any questions if you'd like more information. Santa Muerte

edit

I will ask you to refrain from undoing my contributions, which do include the appropriate citations. I am the author of the first book-length study in English of Santa Muerte, Devoted to Death: Santa Muerte, the Skeleton Saint (Oxford, 2012) and as such am one of the leading experts on the topic. In contrast, your knowledge of the cult of Saint Death is superficial as evidenced by your stubborn insistence that veneration of her went public in the mid-20th century. It's now common knowledge that she morphed from a figure of occult veneration to public worship not more than 10 years ago! There will be no editing war as long as you respect my contributions! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rachesnut (talkcontribs) 18:10, 28 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

There is no conflict of interest in citing one's own published work. You might do well to read up on the subject before proceeding with further erroneous contributions to a topic that you know little about. Your latest deletions of my contributions, such as the essential information on owl symbolism, are nothing but malicious. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rachesnut (talkcontribs) 20:18, 28 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Rebozo, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Maguey (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Architecture

edit

With regrads to your picture, the choice is this: Do we leave out the single representative example of Post-modern architecture or do we leave out the single representative example of Green architecture in order to put in a representative picture of one of the thousands of colleges of architecture, three smiling students and their model? There is not room in the section for three pictures.

The photograph is non-notable. It tells us nothing about architectural style or history. It merely illustrates the fact that architecture is taught as a discipline. This is not something that needs illustrating with a portrait of three students.

Assignment

edit

Hello there! I'm pretty sure I attended your talk at Wikimania back in July. I was curious what the assignment was, exactly. I'm active with WikiProject Medicine and I saw some posts over at the talk page there. And one of your students said hello on my talk page. I'm guessing your user page is acting as the WP:Course page? Maybe we could get some details there on how the students are instructed and graded. =) Thanks! Héctor García Cobo: Well done!

I found this via an unusual way: looking through Category:Photographers. This is a first dumping place for a lot of terrible articles, a few good ones, and a lot that are somewhere between. Héctor García Cobo was/is very definitely in the second group. Discovering it made my day.

If you're interested in Mexican (or other) photography, and of course you are, then I warmly invite you to participate in this project. -- Hoary (talk) 00:58, 27 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Display of lung with tuberculosis at the Museum of Mexican Medicine.

Hey Thelma. I find this image a little blurry. Wondering if there is a better quality one? And is this a wax model or a plastinated specimen? Doc James (talk · contribs · email) (if I write on your page reply on mine) 23:46, 27 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

This Month in GLAM: February in Mexico

edit

Hello Thelmadatter, You have written before for the newsletter This Month in GLAM. I see Mexico is missing regarding the edition about February 2013, do you perhaps have any idea what GLAM activities were done in Mexico in February? Can you perhaps write about those? Or do you know who I can ask to write about it? Thanks! (Deadline of the February edition is Friday 8 March.) You can start writing via the page outreach:GLAM/Newsletter/Newsroom. If you wish to be informed by e-mail next time, please write me at this page. You can reach me the best at nl-wiki talk page. Greetings - Romaine (talk) 00:04, 7 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
