Naming Conventions

Hi! Welcome to Wikipedia!

As a reminder about Yu-Gi-Oh!, in the English manga (sold by VIZ Media in U.S. and Canadian bookstores) and the Japanese versions, Katsuya Jonouchi (Joey Wheeler in the English anime, video games, and card games) is referred to by his last name, Jonouchi, by just about everyone except his sister (and of course, his parents). The same goes for Hiroto Honda (Tristan Taylor), who is referred to by his last name by everyone except his cousin, Johji (his parents would also call him "Hiroto"). WhisperToMe 05:29, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

  • Thank you for your reminder. I will focus greater attention upon these specifics in the future. Sephiroth BCR

You are welcome :) Also, the Shadow Realm doesn't exist in the manga and Japanese versions. It's only seen in the English anime and adaptations of video games. Also, the following characters are called by their U.S. names in the manga and therefore are referred by them on Wikipedia:

  • Maximillion Pegasus (Pegasus J. Crawford in the Japanese versions)
  • Croquet (Crocketts in the Japanese versions)
  • Odion Ishtar (Rishid Ishtar in the Japanese versions)

Also English anime characters who do not appear in the manga (Rebecca Hawkins, Doma Arc characters, Grand Championship Characters, Noah Kaiba) are referred by their dub names. Also, of course, GX characters are referred to by their dub names. WhisperToMe 07:57, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

Jutsu

To help in your merging of jutsu, I've categorized a great deal of the remaining ones here. Some of these jutsu factions could probably be relocated to character articles (such as Gaara's) or to the associated kekkei genkai section (such as Haku's ice jutsu or Sakon and Ukon's abilities), but that can be done later. Anyway, I hope it's helpful, and feel free to pass over movie jutsu where they exist. ~SnapperTo 20:51, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Many thanks. Now I don't have to burn my eyes out looking over those lists. For the most part, I'm going to ignore movie jutsu unless I can regulate it into a brief mention when discussing the larger topic (such as Black Secret Technique Machine Two Shot under the Puppet Technique). Sephiroth BCR 23:36, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
I'm really not sure what jutsu qualify as Strong Fist style, hence why I didn't put it on the list. If there are enough, I see no need to not include them. ~SnapperTo 22:29, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
So, basically anything in Lee and Guy's arsenal. I suppose that makes sense. Eight Gates seems to be a better stand alone section, and the "Leaf" attacks could really just be added to the already existing Strong Fist entry. ~SnapperTo 22:57, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
Excellent; I'll see what can be feasibly moved and look into shortening it tomorrow. ~SnapperTo 02:54, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Re: Other media ninjutsu

An AFD wouldn't be necessary; simply redirecting it to Ninjutsu (Naruto) or wherever would suffice. As for redirecting it, I'm not really aware of its problem areas as I don't keep it on my watchlist. Still, redirecting it should be held off until all of the jutsu pages can be redirected. Simply moving the necessary jutsu would obviously work, though that would be more work than necessary for something that (ideally) won't be around much longer. As it stands, there are 66 non-video game jutsu that have yet to be dealt with, all of which can be seen here. While a few of these are anime/movie jutsu, most are from the manga, and a few of which are of great importance to the plot. If you'd like to try integrating them feel free, but try not to go to great extents to work something into a preexisting article if the article doesn't already have a place for it, and I'd advise skipping over jutsu with multiple users for the time being. Also, the last 5 jutsu (all of which deal with summonings) I plan on combining with List of Naruto summons, though I haven't had a chance to retool the article yet. ~SnapperTo 06:17, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

I'll probably retract my promise of moving all of the summoning jutsu to the summoning article; the Rashomon and Impure World Resurrection can go to Orochimaru's, and only Projectile Technique and Summoning Technique would go to List of Naruto summons. As for the remaining jutsu, put them with whoever uses the jutsu the most or whoever has the fewest jutsu. Chakra Absorption Technique, for example, is used on about the same levels by Jirobo and Yoroi. Because Jirobo already has a number of jutsu in his entry while Yoroi has none, I'd put it with him. Additionally, if one character in particular is better known for using a jutsu than the other users, put it with them. Leech All Creation: Attack Prevention Technique is used frequently by Orochimaru, though it's a staple of Zetsu's role in the story. Even then, there's still a handful of leftover jutsu that really don't belong anywhere in particular. For these jutsu, I'd just stick them under a "Miscellaneous jutsu" heading in whatever the final jutsu article is and allow them to keep their individual headings for easy linking.
The number of articles that need de-plotting is thinning and this jutsu project should at that point see a revisit. When that happens, I'll finally get around to going through your article draft to condense it and remove the various jutsu that have since been moved elsewhere. Whenever this happens, we'll finally be down to 2 ongoing projects rather than 4. ~SnapperTo 20:36, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Hello, Sephiroth BCR. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:19022.jpg) was found at the following location: User:Sephiroth BCR/Soma Cruz Draft. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 01:14, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Soma Cruz

Soma Cruz is pretty decent, but it lacks any true out of universe information (creation, development, reception, ect). It also suffers from too much in universe writing. His role in the games shouldn't take up the whole article. If I put it "on hold", is that something you could deal with quickly or should I just fail it for now, and let you renominate it later? Dante (Devil May Cry) would be a good base to work off of. TTN 18:16, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

The latter. I've personally scoured the Internet for sources on his development and came up with nothing. I guess someone else could come up with it. Sephiroth BCR (Converse) 18:25, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

rasengan

please don't delete the rasengan pictuire i have on the rasenagn

There is no reason for there to be two pictures at that location. I appreciate the effort you put into uploading it, but there is no need for two pictures at any given jutsu. Sephiroth BCR (Converse) 16:24, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

i agree lets just put the gif in for the picture!

No, as the present one is more coherent. While it's nice to see the spiraling effect, it's not necessary. Sephiroth BCR (Converse) 00:35, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

List of Bleach episodes

I've been thinking about it, and my answer would have to be yes, but...

Which is to say, they can and should be created, but we should wait until after their English completion before we nominate them for FL or anything. The English release info is an important part of the total information about the arcs, and it simply doesn't exist yet. --tjstrf talk 06:10, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

The guy who left the comment about my name, User:ONUnicorn, happens to be a member of the Redwall wikiproject. That was a joke.

Speaking of which, I really need to stop focusing on Bleach for a bit and do some Redwall editing. Those articles are in horrid shape, they read like they were written by people actually in the target demographic. --tjstrf talk 07:27, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Re: Iorinyc

I'll first say that he seems to be knee-deep in Naruto forum beliefs (mentions Susanoo? hardly a good sign). I'll also say that further attempts at altering/removing the line would be 3rr violation (and maybe for you too, though I'm not sure). In any event, he can't prove that it is a Lightning Blade, and we can't prove that it isn't. As an attempt at a compromise, I reworded the sentence so that it doesn't rule out the possibility that it is a Lightning Blade, though doesn't say that it is. ~SnapperTo 03:35, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

The Vizard category abilities

I see that you edit the BLEACH articles from time to time and was wondering if you can help me on something. What superhuman categories would Vizard fall under? Super strength, super speed, telepathy, flight, teleporting, telekinesis, etc.? Better yet, what are all the powers that they are capable of doing overall? Lord Sesshomaru

Re: Template

It's just that it seems repetative to me. The lead of these articles clearly states that this is a Japanese series, so therefore even if a user cannot see the characters displayed, they should have enough common sense to assume that what they are not seeing are Japanese characters. But as you said it is a minor issue, so if you add it again, I won't revert it.-- 22:37, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

No, it's being lazy, and not courteous to the rest of the Wikipedia community. People sign their posts to show the time of their post as well as providing a method of contacting that user easily and directly via clicking on the link to their talk or user page. Furthermore, you will not acquire any amount of respect from anyone else by writing your user name in before your statement or by writing in an informal manner. This isn't an AIM chat. Write appropiately for the rest of the Wikipedia community, and you will possibly see an increase in respect for your person. Continue to not do so, as well as edit warring over things that you are blatantly wrong in with other people, and this will not be the case. Sephiroth BCR (Converse) 16:03, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Re Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Flood (Halo)

You opposed at the FAC, stating that it was "entirely in universe". I'm entirely open to making changes, but I was wondering exactly which parts you feel were in-universe. The lead clearly states it's fiction, and describes its purpose in the plot. No glaring examples of fiction stated as fact appear, although I've been working on it so long, it's kinda hard to tell. Additionally, I have read over WP:WAF guidelines and looked at the example articles; as far as I can tell, the "weakest" in-universe part is the forms, and it's in no way worse than, say, Link (The Legend of Zelda). David Fuchs (talk / frog blast the vent core!) 21:14, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Perhaps I was too vague. In any case, my points are accurately represented by TTN's arguments. There are no out-of-universe topics or references (i.e. development/creation, reception/criticism, any in other media references, etc.). Sephiroth BCR (Converse) 22:37, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You

Hello! I just barely started screwing around on Wikipedia in a crusade to improve the Castlevania pages. I saw the Characters of the Sorrow Series page, and it made me very, very happy. References are hard to find on some video game character articles, and I appreciate the out-of-universe voice. You are amazing. Thank you.

So far all I've done is fix up the Trevor Belmont page and add some content. Well, add quite a bit actually, but I left the format somewhat intact (merged the trivia section and added a section, but that's about it). I figured it would be a good place to start. If you have any recommendations/comments on it, please, I'd love to hear them. I know there's still some issues with making the thing sound pretty, but that's lower on my "to-do" list. I'm still very much a newbie, and I could use all the advice I can get. I plan on tackling the Alucard (Castlevania) article eventually, and that in and of itself will be a task. Here's hoping no one hates me for tearing at their eloquent but very in-universe and very un-cited prose.

Re: A different Take

That looks as though it would be longer than your other draft (as in multi-article long), and it would defeat the purpose of all the jutsu that have been moved to character entries. ~SnapperTo 20:21, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Re: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (anime)

I added some {{cite video}} links to those sections as I doubt we could cite them with much else than the primary source of the episodes in question. The last bit in the music section is what troubles me though since it's unverified, and I'm not sure if we can confirm if those classical pieces really were used or not.-- 06:02, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

I added in the references as you requested.-- 06:39, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Revisit

So, as you suggested, the jutsu project is nearing an end. Although there are a few stray jutsu I plan to deal with and a number of filler character-jutsu that need a home, my sandbox has what should be the contents of the finished project. Some notes about what's in my sandbox:

  1. Jutsu under the miscellaneous heading don't belong any place in particular, so it would probably be best to just leave them alone. Letting them keep their sub-headings would also make linking to them easier.
  2. Lightning Blade, while a jutsu that could easily be moved to Kakashi's entry, is used so frequently it's likely to be linked to fairly often, so it needs a place that can easily be linked to. I figured leaving it grouped with Chidori would be the best place for it.
  3. I didn't pay much attention to what filler jutsu you moved to filler character entries, and I don't really want to check. So, all the jutsu I didn't do anything with are under an associated heading, and whatever has been moved can be removed.
  4. As for everything else, you have all you need, it's just a matter of removing what you don't need (ie. remove Empty Palm from the Gentle Fist section). What I would suggest is that you make some sort of mention of the kinds of things you could do with a technique, such as saying, "Neji Hyuga has been able to use the basics of the Gentle Fist style to attack opponents from long distances," or, "Kisame Hoshigaki can shape bursts of water into the form of a shark," and other generalized, interesting things that will allow readers to look elsewhere. I'd also perhaps give a mention of the groups or individual characters that can use a type of jutsu, such as, "Most members of the Uchiha clan can utilize fire-based techniques," and, "The Third Hokage utilizes a number of fire jutsu in battle."
  5. Since Wind and Earth jutsu don't need to be salvaged, a section for them would be appropriate to allow for some level of consistency. Doing the same kind of thing I suggested above would help give them substance.

So that's that. I've got maybe 20 or so jutsu I'll migrate to character entries, and then I'll see what else needs to be done. Incidentally, do you know when the Rain Genin use this jutsu? They don't use it in the manga, and I don't want to move it to their entry until I know when and why they use it. ~SnapperTo 18:56, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Slight Article Dispute

So, the Trevor Belmont article has been redirected to the List of Castlevania characters page. I've tried to dispute this somewhat, but I would like your opinion. I think the article was informative enough and had sources. My opposition believes the article is unnecessary. I'm not asking you to support me or anything (though that would be nice if you so choose), I would just like your opinion on it. Thanks. KristenDArgyle 05:28, 11 July 2007 (UTC)KristenDArgyle
