- Hi Loksmythe,
- What exactly is the reasoning for the rejection of the article? I believe I did include adequate independent sources when needed. Please let me know how I can improve the article for publishing.
- Thanks Qgrunklebert (talk) 18:08, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
- Your draft was declined, rather than rejected. I have reviewed the sources you used in the draft and they are not independent - they are press releases from the company, or not in depth, significant coverage (Bloomberg). There are instructions above for how to improve the draft, though I doubt MacLeod reaches the notabilty threshold. See WP:NBIO, WP:NBUSINESSPERSON and WP:DECLINED. - Makes sense; I'll try to look for more notable people to write on. Qgrunklebert (talk) 18:45, 4 July 2023 (UTC)

AfC notification: Draft:Stephen Smith has a new comment
edit- Hi Robert,
- Once it gets approved I will be sure to add this Stephen Smith to the disambiguation page. In the meantime, is there any chance you could please provide some clarity for me on why it is getting declined? It points towards lack of proper sources, but I feel like the sources I provided are valid. If not, could you please tell me which sources are no good, and why?
- Thanks Qgrunklebert (talk) 17:05, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
AfC notification: Draft:Paul Rivett (businessman) has a new comment
edit- Hi Robert,
- Thanks for reviewing the article. Should I go about adding a disambiguation page and hatnotes to this Paul Rivett and the other one now, or is that something I should wait on until the article gets approved?

- Hi there,
- Thanks for reviewing the article. I've been writing a few articles recently which have all been declined for similar reason, and I try to improve each time to no avail. Is there any chance you could please give me specifics on what is wrong with the article? That would help me very much.
- Thank you. Qgrunklebert (talk) 17:13, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
- I am not sure how you are choosing these individuals to write about, or how you are gathering content about them? It would help to understand your motivations.
- It is important to understand that Wikipedia isn't an indiscriminate collection of information. We have guidelines on who should have an article about them, and who should not. See WP:NBIO. The consensus is that business people such as CEOs shouldn't have an article about them just because they are a CEO of a big company or have had a successful career. At best, we might accept a redirect from the name of the CEO to the company they are CEO of. For their to be a standalone article about a business person, an author needs to show that the person's life and career has been subject to substantial independent coverage. This might be that someone has written a book about the person, or a chapter of a book about them, or numerous national newspaper articles have been written about them. Think Bill Gates. Coverage such as a corporate announcement about that person being appointed is considered routine coverage, and doesn't count towards notability - otherwise every business executive would have an article about them. Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 19:24, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @Curb Safe Charmer,
- I am finding these individuals through interest in Canadian business and seeing / hearing about them often because of it.
- I understand what you're saying about not all individuals needing a Wikipedia page, which I am coming to understand as I get more familiar with Wikipedia article creation. However I feel that at least 2 of the 4 individuals I have made articles for are notable enough for recognition on Wikipedia. I for one was baffled that Smith and Rivett did not already have Wikipedia pages, with Smith's lack of page being the reason I started writing Wikipedia articles.
- As you were saying though, I now see why MacLeod and Clarke may not be notable enough, as most information on them is "routine coverage" as you put it. But Smith and Rivett have a lot of coverage on them that is not routine which for me makes them highly notable in the business world, which as a Torontonian I have seen especially with Rivett's takeover of the Star which was the talk of the city for a while.
- Please let me know if there's any way that I can improve my articles on Smith and Rivett, as I do now realize that MacLeod and Clarke are not quite there yet in terms of notability.
- Thanks Qgrunklebert (talk) 19:36, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 19:45, 6 July 2023 (UTC)In your reply you say you understand about "not all individuals needing a Wikipedia page". Individuals shouldn't need a Wikipedia page. Wikipedia is not a place for people to promote themselves. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. You wrote you had written articles "for" four individuals. That sounds like you have a conflict of interest and are probably being paid to do so, in which case you must declare it. You wrote that two of the people you'd written about were notable enough for recognition which again gives the impression that you are aiming to promote those people. That is not what Wikipedia is for, and us volunteers aren't going to be rushing to help you in that aim. - Hi @Curb Safe Charmer: My apologies for the poor choice of words. I, like seemingly many other creators on Wikipedia, am writing to give back in a sense. Being a kid interested in business with no better way of learning about it, I resorted to Wikipedia to learn about businesses and important figures, and I figured I would repay that (while also filling some gaps that I wish did not exist when I was reading business Wikipedia) by writing articles about people who I would have liked to learn about through Wikipedia. I apologize if it comes off as COI for whatever reason, I can assure you that I am not being paid to do this like you accuse me of.
