Ecce Homo Vandalism
editOh, please. Have you even *read* Ecce Homo? How can you possibly claim that passages like this, are not, at least to some extent, written in an urgent and/or apocalyptic tone:
- I know my fate. One day my name will be associated with the memory of something tremendous—a crisis without equal on earth, the most profound collision of conscience, a decision that was conjured up against everything that had been believed, demanded, hallowed so far. I am no man, I am dynamite.— Yet for all that, there is nothing in me of a founder of a religion—religions are affairs of the rabble; I find it necessary to wash my hands after I have come into contact with religious people.— I want no "believers"; I think I am too malicious to believe in myself; I never speak to masses.— I have a terrible fear that one day I will be pronounced holy: you will guess why I publish this book before; it shall prevent people from doing mischief with me.
[...]
- I contradict as has never been contradicted before and am nevertheless the opposite of a No-saying spirit. I am a bringer of glad tidings like no one before me; I know tasks of such elevation that any notion of them has been lacking so far; only beginning with me are there hopes again. For all that, I am necessarily also the man of calamity. For when truth enters into a fight with the lies of millennia, we shall have upheavals, a convulsion of earthquakes, a moving of mountains and valleys, the like of which has never been dreamed of. The concept of politics will have merged entirely with a war of spirits; all power structures of the old society will have been exploded—all of them are based on lies: there will be wars the like of which have never yet been seen on earth. It is only beginning with me that the earth knows great politics.
It's one thing for you to disagree with my interpretation, but quite another to allege vandalism. If you want to mudsling, I suggest you try the sandbox on a rainy day: 70.28.8.116, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
Hunter Valley caution needed

editWhy did you revert my edit to the Seventh-day Adventist Church page. The sentence makes no sense. I didn't change the citation tag, check the history. -Fermion 10:18, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the compliment...
editYour kind words are appreciated, Adrian. As you move forward and customize it, I would be very interested in seeing what you come up with. I would like to eventually change the visual of it to something more in browns, oranges, yellows and reds. If you add new information, I would greatly apreciate borrowing it. Please send me the link to wherever you plan to house it. Best, Kukini 04:20, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
Hi Kukini and NotBob, I'm glad to see someone has finally started using the the Get Welcomed template, but what I like even more is your modifications. :) Can you you guys get onto that template and make some permanent changes. Kukini, I like the way your version explains more about getting help. And NotBob, I like you creative design. Maybe we can work together and create some better templates to replace some of the old ones. What do you think? Let me know. Waikiki!!! ^_^ --ElectricEye (talk) 07:26, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
I agree that RfA instructions are a bit clearer, but not so much. Many users use that same argument ("all the other pages list downwards"), but if you had read the instructions till the end (the real end), you would have seen it ;). Anyway, just remember to put a future RfA in the top if you want to do it. Fetofs Hello! 12:47, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
- BTW, I've clarified it a bit. Now who does read the enitre instructions set will get the message. I felt that it really needed clarifying. Fetofs Hello! 14:28, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

editInteresting. Do you know why? It seems to me that WikiProjects (along with portals) are an ideal starting place for newcomers. By the way, I'm not advocating any specific project; I look at the user's contributions and suggest a project based on them. TheJabberwʘck 22:32, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
My welcome template
editYou mention my welcome template. I'd love to see that completed, just I am having problems with the html. If you or someone you know can have an attempt at it, please do. It can be found at User:MyNameIsNotBob/Welcome/temp. MyNameIsNotBob 11:49, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
- Just letting you know I have managed to fix and upgrade my welcome template at User:MyNameIsNotBob/Welcome. If you can think of ways to improve it be bold and help us all out. Regards. MyNameIsNotBob 13:17, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
- Hi NotBob. (What do we call you anyway if you're not Bob?) I got your message and looked at your welcome message, it looks great. I considered your request for html help but wasn't sure what I could do. I'm glad you managed to work that out. Looks like you can fit another column in there. Waikiki!!! ^_^ --ElectricEye (talk) 13:21, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
Just a tip in case you didn't know: You won't have to copy & paste the whole thing every time you welcome a new user. Just put {{subst:User:MyNameIsNotBob/Welcome|--~~~~}} in their talk page and save. You're signature will show up and everything else. --ElectricEye (talk) 13:24, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
Hmm, I just noticed you mention a page they edited, in that case you will have to use it like this: {{subst:User:MyNameIsNotBob/Welcome|ARTICLENAME|--~~~~}} Type the name of the article they edited at ARTICLENAME. --ElectricEye (talk) 13:26, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
- I did a bit of work on it. Now the MyNameIsNotBob/bigarchive variable will be subst:ed at runtime, and will thus 1) not appear as a variable when the talk page is edited, and 2) not change if the talk page is archived. Also I linked the article name. The new syntax for use is:
{{subst:User:MyNameIsNotBob/Welcome|nocode=subst:|<article>|~~~~}}

- Great! I copied the source of your monobook.js to mine but something doesn't seem right and I don't even know how to use it anyway. I'll have to take a look into WP:WPUS. --ElectricEye (talk) 13:58, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
- Blah!! I'm lost on using Wikitool javascript, but I want to use it! --ElectricEye (talk) 14:05, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
- How about if you put __TOC__ at the top of their talk page when using the template? Would that fix the TOC problem? --ElectricEye (talk) 13:32, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

Biting Newcomers
editI will acknowledge that I have become less tolerant of vandalism. I am approaching 3,000 articles on my watchlist, and I take my "job" watching over these pages seriously. For months, I have just reverted changes and left the task of fighting vandalism to others. As I have seen more and more vandalism as my watchlist grew, I realized that I had to take responsibility for warning vandals on articles I have worked on. While you may have caught one of the edits that this new user made that wasn't too offensive, take a look at this other edit, which should offend even the most vandalism-tolerant among us. This seems to be part of a trend where users vandalize a page and then remove the vandalism, often as part of a two-edit sequence, but often a chain of three or more edits. Even if the article remains as it was after the edit sequence, these changes are vandalism, and the edits made by User:Hunthearin clearly fall into that category. Alansohn 12:28, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
Hunthearin's vandalism
editThe following edit was vandalism on Hunthearin (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)'s part: [2]. Though he reverted it himself, I felt that he still should be warned.--Conrad Devonshire 14:55, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

The Creation SDA Church
editThe SDA Church sues any renegade SDA group that has influence if they are using the SDA trademark name. The Creation SDA Church was threatened with a lawsuit but the General Conference obviously found out that Walter McGill, a.k.a. "Pastor Chick" is just a fraud with a huge web presence. I've talked with "Pastor Chick" on the phone years ago and know that he represents himself and doesn't own or rent a church building.
I'm not protesting strongly. I don't mind if managing Wikipedia editors are taken as fools. --Perspicacious 23:12, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Now the focus for references...
editNow we should focus on getting lots of references for Seventh-day Adventist Church. It being a "Good Article" and all... Try to find your brothers textbook sometime. Ansell 10:16, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
- Wow, that was a timely reply, just as I checked over my updates to Criticism of the Seventh-day Adventist Church I got that message. Will try to have a shot at referencing the Seventh-day Adventist Church page sometime soon, I am also of the opinion the page may need restructuring and a bit of expansion, maybe. That is just my gut feeling after having a look at other religious movement pages (the one I just read was Bahai Faith. MyNameIsNotBob 10:22, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
- The entry appeared at the top of my Watchlist as I went to refresh it so I thought I should come and congratulate you and hopefully get (us both) motivated to work on another part of the big picture. :) A proposed structure to change to would be good, but I think that referencing what is there may be more timely than trying to develop an entirely new set of material from scratch and then getting references, or getting them as we go maybe. Ansell 10:25, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
- The two big problems with the article as I see it at the moment are, one, it is poorly referenced (a fact we can all agree on). The second problem is that it is excessively unbalanced, and it has nothing about the "investigative judgment", one of the main differing beliefs of the Adventist church.
- As for referencing, Light Bearers will help with the origins section, but not much else. Seventh-day Adventists Believe is a good reference for the Beliefs section but not comprehensive (an official publication doesn't deal with reactions/attitudes, if you follow my drift), a textbook of some sort may be useful. MyNameIsNotBob 10:38, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
- Light bearers actually goes into quite a lot of reasons and a progression through the major defining issues, lets face it, the church hasn't had that many defining issues between 1920 and now (okay, there are a few). I will get back to this with some commentary on the articles talk page later. Thanks for the work you have put into the referencing stuff. Ansell 11:20, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

A short Esperanzial update
editAs you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.
As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.
Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower háblame 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
- The following suggestions were generated by a semi-automatic javascript program, and may or may not be accurate for the article in question.
- Per WP:CONTEXT and WP:MOSDATE, months and days of the week generally should not be linked. Years, decades, and centuries can be linked if they provide context for the article.
- Per WP:MOS, avoid using words/phrases that indicate time periods relative to the current day. For example, recently might be terms that should be replaced with specific dates/times.
- Per WP:WIAFA, Images should have concise captions.
- There may be an applicable infobox for this article. For example, see Template:Infobox Biography, Template:Infobox School, or Template:Infobox City. (Note that there might not be an applicable infobox; remember that these suggestions are not generated manually)
- Per WP:MOSNUM, please spell out source units of measurements in text; for example, "the Moon is 380,000 kilometres (240,000 mi) from Earth.
- Per WP:CONTEXT and WP:BTW, years with full dates should be linked; for example, link January 15, 2006, but do not link January 2006.
- Per WP:MOS#Headings, headings generally do not start with the word "The". For example, ==The Biography== would be changed to ==Biography==.
- Please alphabetize the categories and/or interlanguage links.
- Per WP:WIAFA, this article's table of contents (ToC) maybe too long- consider shrinking it down by merging short sections or using a proper system of daughter pages as per WP:SS.
- There are a few occurrences of weasel words in this article- please observe WP:AWT. Certain phrases should specify exactly who supports, considers, believes, etc., such a view. For example,
- it has been
- might be weasel words, and should be provided with proper citations (if they already do, or are not weasel terms, please
strikethis comment).
- As is done in WP:FOOTNOTE, for footnotes, the footnote should be located right after the punctuation mark, such that there is no space inbetween. For example, change blah blah [2]. to blah blah.[2]
- Please ensure that the article has gone through a thorough copyediting so that the it exemplifies some of Wikipedia's best work. See also User:Tony1/How to satisfy Criterion 2a.
- You may wish to browse through User:AndyZ/Suggestions (and the javascript checklist; see the last paragraph in the lead) for further ideas.

Thanks for your message. OK, the problem could be software related or maybe I'm missing something. However, when I look at Seventh-day Adventist between the second and fifth reference there is what appears to be a repeated "how to manual". 80.189.230.237 10:58, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

company employees editing
editG'day Not-Bob - I mean, Adrian,
thanks for your message. As a general rule, we let anybody edit Wikipedia — and there's no reason why a company employee can't contribute good edits to an article about that company. Admittedly, they often find it difficult and tend to bias the article a little if they aren't careful. In this case, I'd suggest you just keep on doing what you've been doing: keep a close eye on the article, in case employees make inappropriate edits, and revert if necessary, but if they make good edits, let 'em stand. Good work. Cheers, fuddlemark (befuddle me!) 12:27, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Edits to EG White
editThanks for your welcoming message - but I did not quite understand it. I see that you removed my attempt to place the discussion about criticisms and responses in a less dichotomous context, and your note suggests I more closely observe NPOV, but I would appreciate understanding what aspects of my comment you saw as POV. I gladly submit to the better wisdom of the group on how to communicate this, but I think it is important to include in the article the fact that there is a variety of views of EGW and her visions both within the SDA membership and within the academic community. As currently written the article gives the impressions that all members who value EGW reject all criticisms, which is simply inaccurate.
I apologize if I did not sign my comments on the discussion page for EGW - I thought that I had.
Also, I think you should add the reference to *The White Lie* to the footnotes. Gogh 18:22, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for your response. I have not yet mastered the finer points of wiki editing. I noted that I had not properly referenced my contribution in my discussion post and provided the reference information hoping someone else could do it before I figured out how.
I note now that someone has reverted my edit, and the EGW article again has the Rea book coming before the Numbers book. This is clearly an error. Whoever reverted this did not explain the action, so I don't understand why they did it. When I have time I will see if I can fix it, but you might want to look into it.

Seventh Day Adventist Template
editHi NotBob, Sorry, but I'm technically hopeless when it comes to things like sophisticated templates! You may want to ask User:Kingboyk (Beatles project) or User:Kirill Lokshin (Military History), they were largely responsible for writing the fancier templates.
