Some cookies to welcome you! :D

Welcome to Wikipedia, Mm40! I am Kerotan and have been editing Wikipedia for quite some time. I just wanted to say hi and welcome you to Wikipedia! If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page or by typing helpme at the bottom of this page. I love to help new users, so don't be afraid to leave a message! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Oh yeah, I almost forgot, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); that should automatically produce your username and the date after your post. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place helpme on your talk page and ask your question there. Again, welcome!

Hi there, if you want some one to adopt you, edit this page and place "" at the top (just without the ""). Some one should come around shortly to adopt you. If have any questions, just ask me or you can try over at the helpdesk.--KerotanLeave Me a Message Have a nice day :) 23:56, 14 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yeah sure I will adopt you I would love to, although I am not signed up to the adopt a user program, but since you asked I will. if there is anything you want to ask me drop me a line on my talk page, I should be around most of the time, (I suffer from insomnia, so I am awake most of the time.) As I said before, if you have any questions just ask.--KerotanLeave Me a Message Have a nice day :) 00:08, 15 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
All right I am going to be gone for a while, so any questions that you have will go unanswered for a while, but I should be back soon.--KerotanLeave Me a Message Have a nice day :) 00:16, 15 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
For a new user, you don't ask much, I was kinda expecting more questions and I have kinda been ticking over the idea that you might have perceived my "little while" for a great deal longer than I did. Anyway, I am here as ever. If I don't answer any questions in 24 hours, I am most likely unable to get online for whatever reason, just don't add me to the missing wikipedians list mmk? :P. (if your wondering why I am writing this message, it mainly because I worry that some people might accuse me of being a bad adopter. Also I after looking for it, I realise that the missing wikipedians page no longer exists...meh)--KerotanLeave Me a Message Have a nice day :) 02:38, 28 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Adoption - Amir E. Aharoni

edit

Hi,

You requested adoption at my talk page.

I see that someone already adopted you, but don't hesitate to ask me for any help you may need.

A note: I reply here on your talk page as you requested, but usually it is preferable to reply at the same talk page where a conversation was started. This makes reading the conversation much easier. To make sure that you see the reply, add that talk page to your watchlist. (I would recommend setting your preferences to "Add pages I create to my watchlist". It's under "My preferences" -> "Watchlist". From time to time you can remove from the watchlist pages that you don't need anymore.) --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 06:42, 15 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello

I'm new on the NJ project, and I have an idea for a list: towns in NJ.(see List of towns in New York. I posted this on the project page, but since you were the "leader" of this project, I thought I'd tell you. And also, how do you add a template on your talk page that says your in this project? Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mm40 (talkcontribs) 22:01, 15 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. On many keyboards, the tilde is entered by holding the Shift key, and pressing the key with the tilde pictured. You may also click on the signature button   located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 23:57, 15 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re:

edit

It should be avoided, otherwise you get articles which are full of blue links, and the constant Link here markup in article makes it difficult to edit.--KerotanLeave Me a Message Have a nice day :) 02:38, 9 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Also, no I am not currently an admin, however I would be lying to say that I don't want to become one. However, the standards for being an admin are pretty high. Also I feel it might be a little narcissistic putting in a self request for admin.--KerotanLeave Me a Message Have a nice day :) 02:52, 9 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I can help you with both these things.

edit

Firstly the signature page.

I assume this is the signature pages where the user asks people to sign right?

To create a signature page you have to create a user sub-page, which in this case would be like this, User:Mm40/Signature. Click on the red link and the create a signature page like the others you have seen, and then create a link on your user page asking people to sign that page.

If thats not what you want and what you actually want is to customize your signature that appears when you type ~~~~, got to my preferences and go to the signature box and type in whatever you want people to see when you type ~~~~, for example Mm40/Talk to me! and remember to check the raw signature box, which will allow multiple links in your signature rather than just a link to your user page. I hope that waffle that I typed above helped.

On the user page front, I will see what I can do and make a few edits to it, and then explain what I did so that You will learn something also. Sorry for the slow reply.--KerotanLeave Me a Message Have a nice day :) 00:53, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Alright I haven't done much to your user page, I hope you consider it an improvement to see what I have done check this diff. Its quite literally a slight rearrangement of things.--KerotanLeave Me a Message Have a nice day :) 01:07, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Its no problem, I am here to help :)--KerotanLeave Me a Message Have a nice day :) 01:19, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Also I have to go to bed now, its half past one where I am, and I have to get up in 5 hours, so any questions you ask me aren't going to get answered till around 7 UTC/GMT, but feel free to ask at the helpdesk, although they are only marginally faster :P.--KerotanLeave Me a Message Have a nice day :) 01:23, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I was off IRC for aggggges and most of the editors who were originally involved in it moved off to Veropedia. Why can't you access IRC? J Milburn (talk) 22:36, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

You can't access IRC through Firefox itself, you'll need to get yourself an IRC client, like ChatZilla. J Milburn (talk) 00:15, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
It can be downloaded freely and safely from the Mozilla official site. ChatZilla is the client I use- once installed, you just hit 'tools' > 'ChatZilla' on Firefox. J Milburn (talk) 00:18, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re:Time

edit

Score. Wikipedia time is commonally known as UTC, which is also GMT. You can calculate the time on wikipedia with some simple maths, which was what I was going to recommend previously (its always been very easy for me since I live in the GMT time zone), but while researching this reply I came accross this template which can be used for such a purpose as yours.

  The time on wikipedia is...
21:44, 30 November 2024 UTC [refresh]

This first one is part of a nav box I stole from The time project, lots of the above the markup is perfunctory, its for the pretty box that is comes in, along with the picture, I also made some alterations to it make it more suitable for your user page, like replace the words in bold, and make it not mess up the layout of your user page...too much. You can also have it on the right of your user page if your prefer, by changing the changing the relevant section to float: right.

<div style="width: 18.5em; float: left; margin-left: 1em;"><div align="left" style="background:#EEEE99; border: 2px solid #CCC999;"> The time on wikipedia is... <div style="border-top: 1px solid #CCC999; background: #EEEE99; padding: 1ex 1ex 1.5ex; margin:0; font-size: 110%" align="center"> Time</div></div></div>

There is the required markup for that.

However if you wish for something more simple, or something you want to work in one of your user boxes, you can just stick with the simple line of text below, which can be reproduced with the simple markup below that. Now you can see how much of markup of the last example is not needed.

21:44, 30 November 2024 UTC [refresh]

time

Anyway, I hope that helps.--KerotanLeave Me a Message Have a nice day :) 22:34, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Benazir Bhutto FAC

edit

Hi! I appreciate you're acting in good faith but it's best if featured articles are nominated by people who have worked closely on them. This way they can give reasoned replies to reviewers and be familiar with the sources to make any suggested improvements. Now someone who hasn't worked on the article can't provide this input, so the FAC rumbles on until the opposes become so overwhelming that the article is failed. This is a waste of reviewers' time. While the Benazir Butto article is reasonable, it is certainly not FAC quality as is evidenced by the lukewarm reception so far. Unless you are in a position to substantially improve the article, you might - I say might - want to consider withdrawing it. You can then work up the article yourself (and this will take time) before resubmitting it. What do you think? --ROGER DAVIES talk 02:03, 15 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello there sorry for the slow reply, but I was internet-less for a couple of days, to find out who created an article, click on the history tab find "earliest" which will take you to the fist page of edits, and the first edit and therefore the person who made that edit will be on the very bottom of the page. Some articles which are older than the current history system don't have who created them listed however.

Secondly, to arbitration is the highest form of conflict resolution, which is only used after discussion between the users has failed and discussion on WP:ANI has failed. The arbitration committee is a group of users who basically rule on difficult situations where a precedent hasn't been set and due to the nature of situation, difficult to set a precedent. Alright fixed.

edit

Mmk, I have fixed your talk page so its one hundred percent troll free. As you can see, I restored the last good version which hasn't got any edits that you don't want in it, and then copy and pasted the good edits after the last good version and reinstated them on your talk page. As for the user who left that message, I personally think his account has been used by other users, because some of his recent edits are out of character, and I have left him a message asking to explain why he left you a message in the first place.--KerotanLeave Me a Message Have a nice day :) 11:04, 27 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Although this edit is bordering on being a little dodgy, I know your joking, but interpretation is 9 10ths of the law, despite that however, Wwesocks reaction was out of line.--KerotanLeave Me a Message Have a nice day :) 11:09, 27 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
No the edits that he made to your user talk page weren't a proper way to deal with a any user let alone a newish user like yourself. I am sure you are aware of the adage, "two wrongs don't make a right", it illustrates that even if Wwesocks thought that you had wronged him, the way to respond isn't by blanking a talk page and leaving a message in caps on your talk page with strong, harsh language isn't the way we roll on wikipedia. Quite frankly edits like these are in serious danger of breaching WP:NPA, which is one edit, which I only just noticed.

So the lesson for you here is that interpretation is 9/10ths of the law, but personally I would hate for you to have to go and put "humour" tags all over everything you write in the your user space, having "WARNING THIS IS IS A JOKE" kinda defeats the point of a joke eh?--KerotanLeave Me a Message Have a nice day :) 23:27, 27 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/J.k.rolwing

edit

Hi, since I don't recall interacting with you before, I'll first say welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for taking the time to help out in new page patrolling. Be aware that, if you see a new article which is an obvious misspelling of an existing article, such as J.k.rolwing, it is often much easier to merge any information which may be new into the correct article and create a redirect to the correct article. The reasoning behind this is that the user, who is probably brand new, most likely misspelled Rowling's name on a search and, seeing there did not appear to be an article there, decided to start one. If one person misspelled Ms. Rowling's name, others have the potential to as well and a redirect will help assure this does not occur again in the future. If you have any questions or I can be of any help, don't hesitate to let me know. Cheers! Redfarmer (talk) 00:29, 2 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

edit

Not too good, I haven't started one of them yet still, and I need to finish it by thursday, but the other one is reaching something resembling completion. I also took a look at your first article, and just a few quick comments about it, its rather short and stubby , and needs more information, and also would benefit from inline citations, see wp:cite for more information on that, also on my signature page, that was a just a thing I started a while back, when I had a trick 'you have new messages' message on my user page, and really I don't see much of a purpose in it being there, I don't really 'get' signature pages, in other news however, my watchlist has reached the 16000 mark, marking the height of my obessiveness.--KerotanLeave Me a Message Have a nice day :) 00:48, 6 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I have more time for them than I thought, but one is complete totaling 5.5k words in length and covering ten pages, currently I am just adding footnotes to that one, however the over I haven't started in terms of writing yet.--KerotanLeave Me a Message Have a nice day :) 12:55, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

re: Patrolling

edit

I've marked Buzzy Hellring patrolled as you requested. I also made some small edits while I was there. Because it is so short and mostly because Buzzy is not notable for anything other than Ultimate someone someday might suggest that it be merged into the Ultimate article and redirected thereto. I think it is a valid stub article and probably should remain. Out of curiousity how did you pick me to ask? Have we run across each other on some other article? Your NPWatcher application

edit

Dear Mm40,

Thank you for applying for NPWatcher! Unfortunately, your application has been declined because it seems that you don't have at least 500 edits. When you fulfill this requirement, feel free to re-apply.

MBisanz talk 19:13, 8 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hmm, thats weird, I saw [3] and assumed 194 was too low. But VP and NPW are different tools and have different mins, seeing now that NPW only requires 500 total edits (you have 821), I'm changing my mind and giving you NPW. Do be careful with it. MBisanz talk 19:39, 8 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well I know nothing about programming. But you are on the checkpage. Try doing a WP:PURGE and download the NET framework as well as the most recent NPW version. MBisanz talk 20:06, 8 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ellen Ripley Clone declined speedy

edit

Hi, declined the speedy on this as it made sense to me. Also, I don't think it's helpful to hand new users a vandal warning on top of a deletion notice. It may discourage potentially constructive editors without helping them to contribute constructively. I generally give them a deletion notice with a welcome. I don't usually warn unless they persist after a couple of deletion notices and a welcome. Cheers, Dlohcierekim 01:44, 11 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Paramax

edit

Could I ask you to take another look at this AfD? I've moved the article to the appropriate title, expanded it and added a reference, which takes care of most of the concerns of the editors suggesting "delete". The combination is used differently from either drug independently and there is also a suggested effect on paracetamol's absorption by metoclopramide, which suggests an article on this topic would be useful. There is a lot more that could be added, but I'm no expert in this therapeutic area. Regards, Espresso Addict (talk) 13:22, 22 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Okay. I should point out that the edit to the article was on 22 April. It is good that it got reverted, but there is no point in blocking the account - who hasn't edited since - for the standard 24-31 hours since it will likely not to effect that editor and might possibly effect another person who has now been reassigned that ip. It is for that reason that the AIV board requests that reports should be for accounts that are vandalising "now". Whatever, it is good that someone is looking out and reverting vandalism - for which I thank you. LessHeard vanU (talk) 21:02, 4 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ultimate_(sport) dedicated wiki

edit

Hi Kerotan - this is in response to your comment. You mentioned that you were interested in starting an Ultimate related wiki, but before you do, I would like to point out Ultipedia, a mediawiki based wiki already dedicated to the sport. I set up and maintain Ultipedia, though I don't have the time to contribute as much content as I'd like, but I do keep the software up to date. There are many areas that could use attention, especially from a seasoned Wikipedian. Also note that Ultipedia uses the GFDL, so if you really decide to create a new project you can use the content there to seed your own site. Ivasara (talk) 11:11, 20 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Handling of edits by a blocked sockpuppet?

edit

Sorry if I overstepped, but this particular person (scrivin, a/k/a DavidYork71) has over 300 sockpuppets, and is blocked for life, so I was not too careful. Also, checking references is not very easy, though if I had troubled to read over the Keynes article first I would have had reason to doubt whether it was vandalsm.

It might be a good idea to clarify the policy on the WP:SOCK page. Does one assume good faith for a banned user, or a sockpuppet thereof?

Thanks though. Cheers, Wwheaton (talk) 20:02, 26 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Regarding your signature

edit

I'm sorry to spoil any fun around here but I thought that I'd tell you links to guestbooks in your signature are no longer acceptable per WP:SIG. I recently had to remove mine, thought i'd inform you of the same policy. Sorry again! Regards, CycloneNimrodTalk? 11:28, 31 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes I saw that too and thought mine was acceptable (it was similar to yours) but then I read: "...including brief additional internal links is generally tolerated when used to facilitate communication or to provide general information, but undesirable if seen as canvassing for some purpose."
i.e. if the link goes to your talk page or another page with general information then it's fine, but if you're bugging someone to go sign your guestbook then I think that's seen as canvassing. The issue has recently been discussed on other pages including this one. It's up to you at the end of the day but general consensus is that it's frowned upon.
