WikiProject Podcasting

edit

Hi TVHead, I noticed you were on the list as a member of WikiProject Podcasting! 2008 brings new updates to the project, such as Wikipedia 1.0 article assessment ratings, and new podcast infoboxes editors are working on.

In order to help us know who is working on writing, sourcing, rating articles, and in general helping out the project, I encourage you to check out the WP:PODCAST main page and move your name into the 2008 members list. If you'd like to still be part, but have a more indirect involvement on the project, feel free to leave your name on the former members list. Of course, if you're too busy with other commitments and wish to leave the project, simply remove your name. We'll sure miss you though! :)

The year ahead we would like to focus our energy on not only improving articles, but also provide WP:RS reliable sources to ensure each article meets WP:V verifiability.

All the best and happy podcasting. --Breno talk 10:11, 13 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Today Australia Team.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Today Australia Team.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. WebHamster 14:24, 17 January 2008 (UTC) Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:2005cast.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:2005cast.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 10:27, 18 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Mark trevorrow.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading Image:Mark trevorrow.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 15:57, 8 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of Template:Call For Help

edit

A tag has been placed on Template:Call For Help requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

Thanks. --MZMcBride (talk) 21:04, 23 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Your recent edit to the Blue Heelers article

edit

Hello Michael,

Just a quick question about your recent edit to the Blue Heelers article in which you moved most of the lead section of the article to a new section titled "History". I'm just wondering why you did this. I wrote the section of text with the aim for it to be the lead section of the article and create it as a brief summary of many important points to come in the article. Everything in that section of text is repeated somewhere else in the article; whether it be in the Cast section, Production section, Reception section or Awards section. I was not aware of the policy to create a History section as I thought the whole article represented the history of the topic. Thanks.

Yours in good faith,

Upon checking WP:LEAD, I found that "The lead serves both as an introduction to the article below and as a short, independent summary of the important aspects of the article's topic". Here, it does state that the lead should be short but, further down the page it has reccomended lengths. For an article of 30 000 characters (the Blue Heelers article is almost 30 000 characters in article text length), it reccomends a lead of three or four paragraphs. The Blue Heelers lead, as it was, was only two paragraphs. Indeed, when I perused the example of a well written lead as reccomended on the WP:LEAD page(Genetics), I found that the article was almost exactly the same lenght (in characters) as Blue Heelers but has a longer lead section. This leads me to beleive that the Blue Heelers lead is too short, rather than too long. Also, in WP:LEAD, I failed to find a mention of a history section. Even a text search for the term "history" in the article returned no results. Thanks.

Orphaned non-free media (Image:G4TV.svg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:G4TV.svg.

Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:08, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading Image:Heydad1993.jpeg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.

Thank you for your report on 86.7.11.140 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log). Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and you are encouraged to revert, warn and report inappropriate conduct. I have however declined to act on this report for the following reason:

Stale report. The vandal must be active at the time of the report, or the block doesn't prevent further harm. If they start again, poke me on my talk page and I will block them for a long term.

The Guide to administrator intervention against vandalism might be a helpful read if you wish to improve your future reports. If you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask me on my talk page. Cheers! -- Luk talk 07:55, 12 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Billy Mays image tagging

edit

Regarding this edit of yours: [2] are you saying you made this image, or simply changing the tagging to match someone else's claim to have made it? Although the uploader tagged it as self-made public domain, he also says he got it from various other sources and also said that those sources have not released their copyright. That would make the pd-self claim invalid. DMacks (talk) 16:09, 28 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading File:How to channel logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:BBC World News.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:BBC World News.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. FASTILYsock(TALK) 04:55, 19 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for File:American_Broadcasting_Company_Logo_2007.png

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:American_Broadcasting_Company_Logo_2007.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Melesse (talk) 11:41, 11 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image File:Sky News Business.png

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Sky News Business.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

PLEASE NOTE:

  • I am a bot, and will therefore not be able to answer your questions.
  • I will remove the request for deletion if the file is used in an article once again.
  • If you receive this notice after the image is deleted, and you want to restore the image, click here to file an un-delete request.
  • To opt out of these bot messages, add {{bots|deny=DASHBot}} to your talk page.
  • If you believe the bot has made an error, please turn it off here and leave a message on my owner's talk page.

Nomination of Shirley Phelps-Roper for deletion

edit

A discussion has begun about whether the article Shirley Phelps-Roper, which you created or to which you contributed, should be deleted. While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Shirley Phelps-Roper until a concensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.

You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Wolfview (talk) 15:30, 9 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

While there was an open talkpage discussion about moving Discovery Travel & Living (Australia and New Zealand)TLC (Australia and New Zealand), you moved it to Travel and Living Channel. Wikipedia:WikiProject Podcasting

edit

Hey, I was just looking over the list of members on the Podcasting group and wanted to see if you were still active in the project. If so, it looks like the project could use a little jump-start. In particular, I think notability requirements and assessment guidelines could be added/updated. Please check out the page if you're still interested and move your name to the 2011 active list. Thanks! Udeezy (talk) 23:12, 30 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Added template for SuggestBot

edit

Hi,

Thanks for being one of SuggestBot's users! I hope you have found the bot's suggestions useful.

We are in the process of switching from our previous list-based signup process to using templates and userboxes, and I have therefore added the appropriate template to your user talk page. You should receive the first set of suggestions within a day, and since we'll be automating SuggestBot you will from then on continue to receive them regularly at the desired frequency.

We now also have a userbox that you can use to let others know you're using SuggestBot, and if you don't want to clutter your user talk page the bot can post to a sub-page in your userspace. More information about the userbox and usage of the template is available on User:SuggestBot/Getting Recommendations Regularly.

If there are any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me on my user talk page. Thanks again, Nettrom (talk) 22:53, 31 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of PaltalkScene

edit

The article PaltalkScene has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Seemingly non-notable software.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Dmitrij D. July WMAU Melbourne Meetup

edit

Hi, At last month's June meetup we discussed the idea of setting up a Training Course at a University of the Third Age (U3A) to be held in 2013 and named Becoming a Wikipedia editor. In order to get this course up and running we are calling for volunteers to help develop the idea, and either tutor part of the course, or provide one on one help to students in the class. All local Wikipedians are welcome to discuss this at our 11am meetup to be held this Sunday on 22 July. Please add your name to the attending list at Wikipedia:Meetup/Melbourne 23. Food and beverages are provided. Cuddy Wifter (talk) 02:45, 13 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
