Infobox

edit

Ah. I think I found a better page to help here. I've never created an infobox but its my understanding that it would go something like this:

Which by itself looks like this

And you can add more just by adding a "|" a specific name, and so on until you have what you want. There should be more instructions on the page, for a more detailed infobox. SynergeticMaggot 06:41, 25 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re: Wikiproject Guitarists and Infobox

edit

Hey there! Thanks for the messages. Glad you like the project. In response to your questions about starting your own project and making your own Infobox: First, I would recommend reviewing the page WP:PJ. It outlines the reasons you might start a WikiProject, and how to go about doing so. On the infobox, I don't really know of any good resources for figuring it out - I just looked at other ones that I liked, and tried to emulate the design. So, I would advise finding an infobox that has a design you like, then looking at the code by clicking the Edit tab. You can copy the code into your own test page and experiment with it from there. Hope this helps! --Aguerriero (talk) 17:14, 25 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

No problem using the Guitarist Infobox to base your design. Neither that or anything else here is "mine" - we are all collaborating to make the best project possible! --Aguerriero (talk) 03:19, 26 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Regarding your request for feedback

edit

I've looked over your articles and they all have one thing in common. Many editors (such as myself) wish that any articles on Wikipedia include citations. This shows that an article was not written using OR (WP:NOR), and that the article in question is verifiable. You may want to look over WP:NN, WP:BIO, and WP:MUSIC as I know you wouldnt like someone coming up and proposing the article you work on for articles for deletion (its happened to me before and boy was I mad!, but I had to learn). And since you do enjoy music related articles, you could always look into joining WikiProject Music. I hope things work out for you. SynergeticMaggot 10:17, 27 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Imoeng, I went through Dewa Budjana pretty carefully and tidied up a few things. I wouldn't call myself an expert here, by any means, but you might find it useful to look at the "diff" between my version and your version here. Here's some more specific feedback, starting with the easiest ;-)
 1. The titles for sections and subsections should use equals signs, as you did, but the main sections should have two equals signs on either side, subsections three, subsubsection fours and so on. In your original verison, you had "=Early Life=" which made the section heading as big as the article title.
 2. As SynergeticMaggot mentioned above, citations are very important on Wikipedia and becoming more important all the time. This is especially true when writing about real people like Dewa Budjana; for example, if he didn't really steal from his grandfather, he wouldn't be too happy to find Wikipedia accusing him of it! That's why I put [citation needed in a few places—ideally someone can find a reliable source that confirms any controversial facts in the article and Wikipedia will 1) be more reliable itself and 2) avoid getting sued!!
 3. Another important guideline on Wikipedia is avoiding bias. Obviously, you like Dewa Budjana's music very much (or you wouldn't spend your time writing about him!) but I shouldn't be able to figure out that you like him just by reading the article. The article should only have facts, not opinions: for example, you should avoid saying "This movie was very good", but instead say "The movie received very good reviews," or "The movie sold more tickets than any other that year".
Those are the major things I spotted. You asked about your English as well, and though it's not perfect, it is easily good enough to write articles. What's more important than perfect English (or style, bias, or even citations!) is simply adding to the Encyclopedia. The major strength of Wikipedia is that it's continually improving, but no one would be able to improve on any of your articles if you hadn't taken the time to write them first!
I hope this helps! If you've any questions about this (or anything else), please feel free to ask on my talk page :) --jwandersTalk 11:19, 27 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Article Feedback

edit

Thanks again for your feedback, I really appreciate that. When I read SygnergeticMaggot, I reckon the main issue here is the source of information. However, since I researched the information on Indonesian websites (excluding Dewa Budjana's website), you and zillions other people probably wouldn't understand that, which is a huge problem. So, basically I've put the sources, although those are on the external links part (I'll move it to source part). Do you have any suggestion on this? Thank you - Imoeng 11:31, 27 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

The Wikipedia policy page talks about that here. Basically, it's not actually a problem. Obviously, if you could choose between English and non-english sources, you'd choose English; but for this article, there will always be more and better non-english sources. Use them and reference them normally, so that at least other users that speak the language will be able to verify not only the article, but also the translation from the source. --jwandersTalk 11:42, 27 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Could you check it? I've made the references (its pretty hard to learn though) Imoeng 12:12, 27 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, that looks perfect. The citation/references bit is one of the hardest things to get use to around here; I only started to really make sense of it yesterday, and I've been editing off and on for years! The amount you've learnt and done in three days is truly impressive. --jwandersTalk 15:10, 27 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Your Ibanez JEM images

edit

Hey -- I think you should consider requesting that a couple of those images be deleted. We can only use those images under "fair use," and part of the fair use reasoning includes two things that aren't met here: (1) we shouldn't use fair use images when it's reasonable to create free images. (Surely, it can't be that hard to get a picture of these guitars?) (2) when images are used as "fair use" it should be both a limited number of them, and each one should have a specific rationale. Fair use images should not be used to merely decorate an article, as I think is being done on the Ibanez JEM article with all those fair use photos. Mangojuicetalk 04:23, 3 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Userboxes

edit

From the help page - as it's getting long there and noone else seems to be commenting. Just to make sure you quite get what I was saying (as I went round the houses a bit). OYu don't have a template made for every userbox. Templates are for general things that can be added using the simple a template syntax. However you can use that code to include any page, so you can create a page in your userspace called User:Imoeng/userbox and then include it on the page as if it was a template by using , note how that specifies that the usernamespace has to be used - not the Template namespace! Any more help you need let me know --Errant Tmorton166(Talk)(Review me) 11:18, 7 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hehe no problems :D It may seem simple once you know but if you dont, well... :-) catch u around --Errant Tmorton166(Talk)(Review me) 11:24, 7 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yeah of course, you can create as many sub pages to your userpage as you like! I have 20+ and some users have 100 or so!!! Go for it. What userboxes are you creating btw (out of interest :D) --Errant Tmorton166(Talk)(Review me) 11:44, 7 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hey, I was about to leave a comment on Tmorton's page and noticed your issues with fair use images on templates. I had a similar problem myself a while back so thought I'd offer some advice. I was tweaking the King's College London userbox (Template:User KCL) and my attempts to add the King's College logo were, rightly, slapped down pretty quickly. I got around it by using the same font to create a logo just using the initials of the college (Image:Kclsmall.png), so it's similar enough to be recognisably linked to the university but different enough not to infringe any coprights. If you can find the font used for the lettering of Dream Theater's name you could do something similar, using DT in that font for the image. Alternatively, since the band's logo is based on Mary Queen of Scots' mark you could just use an image of that mark for the logo (I'm 99% sure, though not absolutely 100%, that her mark would be public domain). Anyway, hope that helps.--Daduzi talk 12:23, 7 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Oh, and I forgot to mention this first time round, but I noriced you had a black background, which makes the blue link hard to read. This can be worked around by using span tags and CSS styles, so instead of Dream Theater as the tag you can use <span style="color: (whatever);">Dream Theater</span>. <span style="color: green;">Dream Theater</span> for example would give you Dream Theater. --Daduzi talk 20:54, 8 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject Indonesia

edit

Hi Imoeng! I'm glad to hear that Portal:Indonesia has been set up. Nice to meet an Indonesian Wikipedian from Melbourne, too :-). I'm afraid at the moment I wouldn't be of much help if an Indonesian WikiProject is set up. I'm currently busy enough with school work as well as helping to maintain the Indonesian Wikipedia that I've hardly done anything here at :en except for doing some interwiki linking only. I remember signing up as a participant in the Indonesia-related notice board but haven't even found the time to contribute there! However if you need to ask for a particular help you could always drop me a message here (or maybe in :id). Hayabusa future 11:24, 11 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Imoeng, thanks for creating the Indonesia Portal, it looks great. I'll support you in setting up the project, for sure. I think there's not so many of us with an interest in Indonesia here on Wikipedia, so it's great that you're making such a big contribution. Sadly, I have to work and can't spend my whole time on Wikipedia, but when I do I translate articles from the Indonesian Wikipedia (there's a long list on the Indonesia-related notice board!), and recently I've been spending a lot of time categorising uncategorised articles. If you want me to help out on anything in particular, let me know. Keep up the good work, --Sepa 20:58, 11 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

August Esperanza Newsletter

edit
Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
 1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
 2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
 3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
 4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
 5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
 6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

What do you reckon about this collaboration plan? Please put any suggestion and respond on the WikiProject's talk page. Cheers, take care -- Imoeng 11:58, 16 August 2006 (UTC)"Reply

I am very willing to help. Maybe i need some more direction from you or someone, ha ha!!! When left me the message i was actually going through my indonesian contributuions and making sure that each article was available from the portal with a maximum of two links. And so far, the portal seems to cover everything i checked. Apart from that, i am editing Indonesian-related articles on an ad-hoc (ie, random) basis.
What specifically is the collaboration plan? Is there a link? Where are the suggested tasks? Is there somewhere i can suggest other tasks? Pokonya - i am very keen, but lack direction! (and although research is the key, editing other people's work is always easier - he, he). OK, i will try to do some research - i have many Indonesia-related books.
My interest includes:
 • Language
 • Architecture (not so much ancient, certainly colonial, traditional - particularly Javanese, resort architecture, and modern Indonesian architects)
 • Geography - particularly volcanoes (if you haven't guessed already from my username)
 • History - mainly post 1945, although Indonesia during WW2 is also interesting to me
 • I am sure there are others i just can't remember.

OK, i will look into the project page and get back to you. But right now, i am creating the Mount Merbabu article - give me 30mins and it should be there. I am looking at the other Indonesian mountain articles for ideas. (yes, merbabu is my username) Merbabu 12:32, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

OK, as i visit Indonesian pages, i will do 3 things:

1. Place the portal tag (where approrpiate): Indonesia
2. Assess for importance to project - but this is very subjective. I think you will find my ratings a bit lower than yours. ie, not so many high importance
3. Assess for quality. Please confirm: this only says the article is equivalent to, for example, featured article status - i won't actually be nominating it for FA status, right???

BTW I haven't seen on you on the Indonesian Wikipedia, so why hesitate and do join us! Meursault2004 15:38, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Halo Imoeng, terima kasih juga ya... I'm not a fellow indonesian, though ;-) I'm dutch, my wife is indonesian. I too am quite busy... if I can find the time I mostly work on the articles on nl-wikipedia (For quick questions or remarks, drop me a line here). Salam, MartijnL 16:21, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Kroepoek vs Keropok

edit

I think these two articles should be merged. I suspect that Kroepoek is the Dutch spelling. What about Keropok? Is that Malay? I've only ever seen it spelled Kerupuk in Indonesia, but it could be Malay. Propose I merge Kroepoek into Keropok, and also create a Kerupuk page which redirects to Keropok. Does that sound sensible? --Bwmodular 16:28, 17 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Rotation ST List

edit

Hi Imoeng, I've a suggestion for the ST List. To make the WP:PID portal more dynamics, how about making featured article, selected biography and featured picture updated not on the same day. They are all weekly update, aren't they? So, for example, feature article is updated each monday, biography on each wednesday and featured picture on each friday. That makes the portal more dynamic.

One more thing, to make updating the portal easier, how about creating a bot that will automatically update the portal from the ST List page. So that you don't have to worry on updating the page, but we can focus more on future things. — Indon 09:53, 18 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I am no bot expert also, but I've seen this thing on Wikitravel. They have the discover box on their main page that is updated automatically by bot daily from another page. What they do is listing future discover things and the bot will pick the first item up everyday. So if somehow — anybody who knows about bot — could create a bot that pick featured article/biography/featured pictures from Portal:Indonesia/ST_List, then it would be easier. We just add new items at the last list. — Indon 10:04, 18 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I agree. Until now, it's been good at this way.
About the nomination of collaboration of the week. I want to see how things work first. At the moment, I am waiting for the voting process. ;-) — Indon 10:24, 18 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Ditto with the Did you know entries, would be good to have these rotated from a list. Otherwise you'll be spending your whole life just updating the portal manually. --Bwmodular 11:32, 18 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Tourism in Indonesia

edit

Yes, I know. In fact, if you see its talk, there you will read my debate (under the username: Urang Bandung) with people over there. Since the article has negative views from foreign travellers, esp. the "senior" wikitravel users, I became reluctant to contribute again there. It supposed to be a travel guide, not a political issue. That's why I moved from Wikitravel to Wikipedia and there is a good Indonesian project anyway here that I can help.

Anyway, we should differentiate Tourism in Indonesia article with Wikipedia guide to Indonesia. We should make our article to be neutral about tourism and their article is — supposed to be — about travel guide to Indonesia.

Oops I've to go to the mosque. See you later. — Indon 11:49, 18 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Portal / WikiProjects

edit

Hmm, I think I made it even worse, sorry. Can you work out how to get the Wikiprojects section out of the box?. My own Sandbox isn't much help, because of all the portal referencing. Still trying to get my head round the portal and its sub-pages.--Bwmodular 13:17, 18 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, I've made it a bit better by removing the width restriction on the box so it fits more neatly inside the main box. Still could be much neater. --Bwmodular 13:21, 18 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
I've taken your improvements and done a bit more. I'm happy again :) --Bwmodular 14:19, 18 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
