Hello everyone <3
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya
editHiya, I just posted to WP:AN#Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya asking for a hist-merge. I had watched BBCs Belarus election: Snatched from the streets in Europe's 'last dictatorship', earlier and was trying to work out if I can incorporate that as a cite somehow. Govvy (talk) 10:15, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
- I can help out, and was trying to reply to you, but you removed the post from my talk page! :/ Govvy (talk) 10:16, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
- hi, thanks! I'm hoping we can merge it with the spelling Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, since that is the preferred Belarusian transliteration? (Edit: I see that is what you've requested, thank you so much!!) Sorry I deleted my earlier comment as I think I've gotten confused as to who the page creator was and just didn't want to start an edit war when we could just work together :) Arianna the First (talk) 10:18, 22 July 2020 (UTC)

editNote that File:Sviatlana tsikhanouskaya-rfe.jpg indicates the image may only be used "on the Wikipedia article for Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya/in the Wikimedia Commons". That's not acceptable. Wikipedia content must be freely licensed as we allow people to download and republish the content. As such, we require the content be freely available for other uses, not restricted only for use on Wikipedia. In general, if the image is licensed under GFDL or CC, we are good to go. But we can't use an image licensed under more restrictive licenses when a freely licensed or appropriately licensed image is available. This is a complicated topic and I'm happy to elaborate or answer any questions you have. --Yamla (talk) 23:09, 24 July 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Yamla, thanks for that. I'll do a bit more research on the right licensing and see what I can do with the rights holder. Given the only restriction they gave me was to ensure the image is credited, I think I can probably talk them around to Attribution-ShareAlike. Arianna the First (talk) 23:22, 24 July 2020 (UTC)
- Excellent. The picture you found is clearly superior, if we can use it. :) --Yamla (talk) 23:30, 24 July 2020 (UTC)
