A barnstar for you!
editThe Admin's Barnstar
Not for working off a backlog of history-merge requests, but for responding to history-merge requests quickly so that there isn't a backlog, and for being the usual admin to address any history-merge request from AFC. As the award explanation says, "tedious, but needed". Robert McClenon (talk) 03:08, 2 January 2021 (UTC) |

A barnstar for you (again)!
editThe Admin's Barnstar
For being the admin who most often performs the history merge after one of those copy-paste jobs. (Now, if only we could get editors to stop doing the copy-pastes, but there are at least two reasons, good-faith ignorance, and attempts to hog credit, that don't work, due to the Appleyard history-merges.) - Sad news if true, RIP Anthony and thank you for your service over the years. Always a regular in the WP:RMTR and WP:HISTMERGE spaces. Will be much missed. — Amakuru (talk) 13:46, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
- RIP, Thanks for your good work, here. Alanscottwalker (talk) 14:06, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
- RIP. I've been worried about him, as a fellow prolific history-merger, for a while now ever since noticing his absence from the project a couple of months ago, but was unable to find anything about his status. Another link: I'm 99.99% sure this website belongs to our Anthony Appleyard, and have been so ever since discovering it some years back. Among other things, it mentions scuba-diving and the only WikiProject he talks about on his user page is WikiProject SCUBA ... it also mentions the Old English Wikipedia, to which he contributed quite extensively. It's presumably still up because the lease has been renewed; I was going to check up on it when the current lease expires at the end of October. Graham87 15:57, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
- He mentioned working at UMIST in this village pump post. Yeah, that's our guy. Graham87 16:16, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
- I've had a go at writing a quick obituary. Any edits to it would be appreciated. I just realised we're using his favourite style of talk page indentation ... Graham87 17:04, 5 July 2022 (UTC)

- So sorry to read about this on BN. It seems like we have lost quite a few regular, longtime contributors over the past two years. And probably even more who we stopped seeing editing whose passing never made it back to Wikipedia. Liz Read! Talk! 20:27, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
- Hi folks - I think I have found a clue in searching for "Anthony Appleyard Manchester" - The Gazette tells us an Anthony Appleyard from Manchester is a deceased estate, dated 28 February 2022 which is later than the day he last edited). It looks like the Wikipedian and the one on the Gazette is likely to be the same person so I think you're probably right, sadly. RIP. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 20:52, 5 July 2022 (UTC)

- I've worked with Anthony at the RMT. I'm very much distressed by this news. Alongside Cyphoidbomb, I'll remember him as the best ever admin on this encyclopedia, but sadly Cyphoid himself hasn't edited since 8 October 2021. ─ The Aafī (talk) 05:05, 6 July 2022 (UTC)

- This is most depressing. I remember when I edited as a dynamic IP for a decade, and Mr. Appleyard was always one of, if not the, most respectful and helpful people at RM when assisting with my move requests. To this day, as weird as it sounds, I always think of Anthony Appleyard whenever I am doing page moves. You will be missed. Rgrds. --Bison X (talk) 20:46, 6 July 2022 (UTC)
- Very sad news. I was a frequent poster at RMT and most of the time it was Anthony who did the move requests quickly and efficiently. A great loss for the project. Rest in peace. Vpab15 (talk) 21:17, 6 July 2022 (UTC)

Service Award
editThis is the Service Award earned by Anthony Appleyard as of this date:
or alternatively
Anthony has very many edits (at least 339,495) so as the years progress, he will continue to be eligible for higher Service Awards, as the time component of the awards is calculated from the commencement of service and never stops regardless of circumstances. Anthony will in the fall of 2022 obtain Senior Vanguard Editor / Supreme Gom status, two years from that the highest current level (Ultimate Vanguard Editor / Cardinal Gom), and in future any such higher level as may be created, for very many more years. Godspeed Anthony Appleyard. Herostratus (talk) 21:30, 5 July 2022 (UTC)

- Ah, that is probably due to page moves being counted differently by XTools and internally. 1234qwer1234qwer4 14:49, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
- Oh, right, I may have counted on en.wp edits. Doesn't matter for this case, as either way our late colleague has more than enough edits to qualify for many years, as his time from start is the constraining factor. And in fact he may well advance forever, as we talking right now about capping the number of edits required after you reach the current highest level. Herostratus (talk) 19:07, 5 August 2022 (UTC)

West Sound (Ayrshire)
editi’m trying to attempt to move a page article name: from West Sound (Ayrshire) to Greatest Hits Radio Ayrshire. But for reasons I can’t. I can also attempted to request the move, but I have had no luck. I realise you also cannot move the page back without over redirecting. The reason why I want to move the page, it’s because the radio station has changed its name today (April 1 2023) I was wondering whether or not you could help me.DoctorStrange97 (talk) 14:25, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
- @DoctorStrange97: Unfortunately for all of us, Anthony is no longer living. I'm not an admin, but I am a page mover, so I'll look at the article and see if it should be moved without discussion. If I decline to move it, I'll post you a message on your talk page. Thanks. BilCat (talk) 05:50, 4 April 2023 (UTC)
