Template talk:Ludwig van Beethoven

Overhaul

I've been very bold and removed all the works by Beethoven from this template. I consider this to be in line with the ideas expressed by a majority in the TfD. Although there was no consensus to delete, there was, as I interpret it, a reasonably strong consensus that the inclusion of some "prominent" works (and, consequentially, the exclusion of others) was a problem. Keep in mind, incidentally, that templates for the piano sonatas and string quartets already exist, and I am considering making a template for the symphonies as well. List of Works

I added back in a link to list of works by Beethoven because I think it belongs alongside the rest of the links in this template. As far as I can tell (the website's being slow right now), consensus only removed that link while the template also had links to "major" pieces by Beethoven. Starwiz 15:39, 23 November 2005 (UTC)

As far as I can tell, it was always there in a somewhat disguised form ("Other major works"). It only disappeared because of sloppy editing on my part. Thanks for putting it back in. EldKatt (Talk) 17:29, 23 November 2005 (UTC)

Films (and other media)

Should the film Beethoven's Great Love be added to the template, or is that article too short? And should works like the album Beethoven's Last Night be considered for inclusion?

Mega template

In addition to the reasons against a mega template I raised at Template talk:Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, I noticed that some similar and some even more convincing arguments have been made in 2005 at Wikipedia:Templates for deletion/Log/Not deleted/August 2005#Template:Ludwig van Beethoven. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 06:08, 22 July 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the edit revert - and link to the earlier discussion - had I known this was discussed earlier I may not have posted my own efforts - nonetheless, I learned some new things about Beethoven and his compositions in the process - as far as I knew at the time, Fidelio was the only opera by Beethoven but the Leonore link in the list of works seemed to suggest to me that there might be some fragment or equivalent of some other opera effort - thanks for helping me understand that Fidelio seems to be the only Beethoven opera effort after all - Enjoy! :) Drbogdan (talk) 21:17, 22 July 2013 (UTC)

As has been pointed out by several editors at Template talk:Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart#Mega template, this template is simply too large to be of any navigational use; shortening the titles makes it only more confusing. Also – for both the Mozart and the Beethoven templates: consider the composer's list of works (Köchel catalogue, List of compositions by Ludwig van Beethoven) and note for how many compositions we don't have articles yet; writing them will make these template bigger and bigger and continually increase their problems. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 02:28, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
