Bias
editRightly or wrongly, this page is very much anti-Stephon Marbury. While I do not know much information on Marbury, maybe someone with more knowledge can make it more unbiased. You're right, even now after all the edits. "Ongoing feud"? I know he went AWOL, but Thomas and Marbury have been far from feuding the last couple years, Marubry has always publicly professed his love for Thomas repeatedly. I don't like Marbury either, but to say this feud is ongoing is new to me, or at least an exaggeration that makes me think without googling it that someone from the New York Post wrote that. How could you be "pro-Marbury"? Lol.
- Looking at his career stats it's easy to see that in the right situation, he has been and will be a very solid contributor. Because of the reputation he has acquired, he has a tendency to get blamed for the lack of success of any endeavor of which he is a part. Wait a little bit for all of the Knicks to be healthy (at which point they will start winning) and a lot of people are going to be pro-Marbury. No reason to laugh out loud. --Tractorkingsfan 02:40, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
i got rid of some non-NPOV stuff like saying he was an asshole and calling isaiah thomas mentally challenged.--Alhutch 06:39, 3 February 2006 (UTC) I got rid of this: They don't particularly like each other and have had a long-standing rivalry within the family. [1] because several weeks ago, Sebastian Telfair, on Steven A. Smith's ESPN talk show, discussing his documentary "Through the Fire" about Telfair's jump from HS to the NBA, Telfair told Smith that "his cousin (Marbury) was always there for me when I needed him." Consequently, I think that it is fair to say that the "feud" is diffused and using the New York Daily News as a source, given the tabloid nature of that paper seems to be a bad idea, anyway. i don't know who compares marbury to kobe. for one thing, their styles of play aren't really all that similiar. Dychoi 09:19, 24 March 2006 (UTC) It's hard to make Stephon Marbury sound better because of all the negative things that surround him. The fact that the Nets and the Suns significantly improved the season after trading Marbury is a hard truth to counter. I think that the comparisons between him and Kobe are about their attitude towards the game. That both players demand having the ball as much as possible. In terms of personal opinion though, I lay most of the blame for this 2005-2006 season on Larry Brown. Mainly because he knew what team has was getting into did not have many veterans and primarily consisted of young players, who historically have not really been played that much by Brown. Larry Brown is a really good coach when he has the right pieces but he is not a diverse coach who can handle any situation. --Lonewolf26X 04:25, 2 August 2006 (UTC) re: how can you not really like marbury - First of all, can you really criticize Marbury for not being as good as Jason Kidd, one of the best point guards of all time??? Oh, and he left Phoenix for Steve Nash who, since his arrival in Phoenix, has been the best point guard in the NBA. That argument makes no sense. And if you want to continue pushing it, look at the nets and the suns in the season before he left-- Furthermore, regarding the improvement of the teams he's left, look at the roster of he nets before and after Marbury left. The summer after marbury was traded, the nets had the #7 pick in the draft. They traded that pick for 3 guys, one of whom is nearly an all star (richard jefferson), and the other of whom was key in their runs deep in the playoffs (Jason Collins (yes he sucks now, but he was very solid then)). Not only that, they replaced Johnny Newman, a guy who should have already retired at that point, with Kerry Kittles, who turned into their third scorer and whose super speed perfectly suited kidd's running game. The Net's argument that Marbury hurt their team clearly holds no water. Other than the fact that 2 time MVP steve nash is a great player, there were several factors that contributed to the suns' turnaround. in 2004 with marbury gone and no nash yet, both Joe Johnson and Amare Stoudemire, the 2nd and 3rd most important players in the Suns' turnaround, were forced to learn how to score on their own. These guys were still coming into their own in marbury's last full season, Johnson was 21 and Stoudemire was 20. It is very rare that you have a team with 2 major contributors that young that is successful. It is absurd to try to say that Marbury played with the same Joe Johnson and Amare Stoudemire in 2003 that Nash got to play with in 2005. Obviously Nash's passing had somethign to do with these guys' transformation too, but there isn't another player in the NBA who can do what Nash has been doing in Phoenix. Now I'm sorry for this rant, but it's totally illogical to play like marbury is some selfish team killer. He is not steve nash, he is not jason kidd, but he is a very talented player. I don't believe there is any good evidence to say that he is a team killer, and having been an avid NBA fan for the last 10 years or so, it irritates me to see how people enjoy hating on him. In short, I request that you post here if you feel the need to add in to the artilce some garbage about how marbury sucks.Maxterpiece Moron Marbury claims that dog fighting is just a sport behind close doors. Where do idiots like Moron Marbury come from. What type of human trash produced him, and who would want to befriend a total human creep AKA Stephen Muabury —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 208.77.91.21 (talk) 19:14, August 22, 2007 (UTC)
Just took the following out of the article as NPOV:
- Marbury is an evil sociopath who supports Michael Vick and calling dogfighting a sport and comparing it to hunting. At least in hunting the animal is killed relatively quickly. These dogfighting trainers steal dogs from families and injure them so that their champion fighter can get used to the idea of killing. In some cases they even duct tape a dogs mouth and through it in the ring with another dog just for training. What kind of sport would do this to animals? There is a clear line between right and wrong here. This is black and white. There is no gray. Dogfighting is not a sport. It is a power-trip for people with too much time, too much money and no souls.
Sigh. - Scooter 13:19, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
You need to keep this article neutral. Don't keep putting that Marbury refused to play. Why? Because D'Antoni said so. Marbury said he didn't refuse. So you can't keep writing that he declined the offer or refused. I'll keep changing it back to a neutral recount with accurate information without presumptions to the day I die if you keep trying to change the story. I put both D'Antoni's and Marbury's side.

"Starbury" origin
editDuring a July 10, 2007 (that's tonight!) interview with Greta Van Susteren during the On The Record broadcast, as he was introducing his $14.98 sneakers; when questioned by her, Marbury intimated that he was given the "Starbury" nickname "by the media" when he turned pro. Italy
editOn Around the Horn a few days ago, they said he was planning to play basketball in Italy once his contract with the Knicks expired, largely because his wife likes that country. Should this fact be added to the article? VitaminPat 02:45, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
Dogfighting Statements
editjmfangio keeps removing convtroversial statements made by marbury in reference to michael vick. nobody posted any opinion or biased statements but he keeps initiating revert wars and deleting factual statements. They were in the news a lot and are highly relevent to his bio. Just like we put up controversial statements by politicians and other celebrities. See Keith Hernanez's bio - we have put up his controversial comments about women and baseball. The bottom line is these statements are not at all biased and belong on his page. Please stop violating wikipedia policy by revert deleting them. Feel free to change how they are presented but they belong on the page. See Wiki policy:
"Be respectful to others and their points of view. This means primarily: Do not simply revert changes in a dispute. When someone makes an edit you consider biased or inaccurate, improve the edit, rather than reverting it. Provide a good edit summary when making significant changes that other users might object to. The revision you would prefer will not be established by reverting, and repeated reverting is forbidden; discuss disputed changes on the talk page. If you encounter rude or inappropriate behavior, resist the temptation to respond unkindly, and do not make personal attacks."
I emphasize the policy on refraining from reversions. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gtown05 (talk • contribs) 22:52, August 28, 2007 (UTC)
Dogfighting Statements part 2
editjmfangio does keep deleting relevant statements about Marbury and his support of Vick. Especially now that Vick as admitted to EVERYTHING, jmfangio must have some axe to grind. jmfangio has reported me as a suspected sockpuppet and I will fight him to the end on this. Lawyers in the family. Experts on intellectual property. He has no evidence, I have ONE account with Wiki and I am determined that Marbury, who also argued with the beloved Larry Brown and is not a nice guy, have his true personality exposed. Denial much jmfangio? LIke dogs? Please email me. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bmccarren (talk • contribs) 00:13, August 29, 2007 (UTC)
Found God?
editThis short passage can be found under the "Personal" section:
During the summer of 2007, Marbury claimed he found God and he became a born-again Christian on June 29, 2007.[8]
It cites this article as the source. I've looked over the text of the article, in addition to listening to the audio clip on the left side-bar accompanying the text, and there doesn't appear to be anything mentioning Marbury finding God or anything of that sort.
A story for the NY Daily News on December 3rd does indeed state that Marbury had dedicated his life to God over the summer. So while it does certainly seem that this fact about Marbury is true, I'm sure this article from the NY Daily News, or some other source, would fit better than the article currently cited.
If someone would be willing to look over that NY Times piece again, just to confirm there's nothing I missed, and make the appropriate changes that would be great. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.149.165.174 (talk) 16:15, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Semi-protection
editBecause of the disruption being caused by anons and new accounts, here and at Stephon Marbury Online Initiative, I have semi-protected this page for one week. This prevents new users from editing, but still allows established editors to make changes. New editors are, however, still able (and encouraged!) to engage in discussion on the talkpage about how best to improve the article. Thanks, --Elonka 16:54, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Starberry shoes - unsourced content removed
editHe wore these shoes on court for the entirety of 2006-07 season.[citation needed] Now, Marbury has promised to give out a free pair of Starburys to every high school varsity basketball player in New York City.[citation needed]
If anyone feels these belong, the edit may be easily re-added.sinneed (talk) 21:44, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
Basketball Skills
editIs there a reason why he went from being one of the best players in the NBA to a bench player averaging 3.8 ppg? Is it drugs or something? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Austenhaynes (talk • contribs) 14:18, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

No mention of AND1 or ankle sprain during debut?
editWasn't this guy the first NBA player with an AND1 contract? And he unfortunately sprained his ankle in his NBA debut. Both these things seem like significant points to mention in his article. Jason Quinn (talk) 09:54, 7 July 2024 (UTC)
