British English
editI marked this as being in British English when I translated it, because I am English and so inevitably will use British English grammar, even if I catch myself and use American English spelling. I know from some experience that Canadian spelling and grammar is distinct from both; it would seem to me this article would be best revised into Canadian English, but I can't do that reliably. I doubt there is much to change except probably a few spellings and some verb constructions. Any views? Si Trew (talk) 05:40, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
There seems to be a discrepancy of the dates in which the cage was found. April 18, 1763 - Marie-Josephte Corriveau alias la Corriveau hanged near the Plains of Abraham for murdering her husband Louis Dodier, who apparently beat her; the corpse of the celebrated murderess is hung for a month in an iron cage at Lauzon by the Pointe-Levy for passers-by to see; the cage is discovered in 1851. Quebec. http://northernblue.ca/todayincanadianhistory/index.php/April_18 DJNelson7 (talk) 12:05, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
There is a discrepancy because there is no record of her ever being hung on the plains of Abraham. She was sentenced "...to suffer death ... and her body to be hung in chains" at Lauzon. She was mostly likely placed in the cage alive and simply allow to die - to suffer death! P.T. Barnum, and the gibbet.
editI just wanted to point out that the gibbet's providence indicates 'from Quebec' because that is the greatest leap that anyone is willing to take. Barnum was a notorious hoaxer and had many a macabre item on display, many of which were fraudulent or manufactured for him, and even by him. It's inclusion is a bit of a double edged sword as we can be near positive it's nothing to do with the case at all, but the problem is that it is very commonly misrepresented as being involved and even 'the gibbet used to display her remains.' I would remove it, but the fact of the matter is there is an overwhelming amount of sources stating that it is the real deal because for a century or more it has been represented as such but there is zero evidence to it being so, in fact there is zero evidence of it being anything more than obtained in Quebec, and that solely comes from it's first showing and alleged 'digging up.' I don't think it has any merit to the article, but if she is some kind of folk hero I don't want to get anyone's knickers in a knot. But as far as encyclopedic quality goes perhaps it should be removed? <!//– ☠ ʇdɯ0ɹd ɥsɐq ☠ // user // talk // twitter //–> 19:34, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
